I skate everyday for like 4 hours, so i progress very fast now. Another tip is do «repetitions» its like 1 repetition = 10 ollies. And then you do like 10 repetitions every sesh!

As far as teaching is concerned its so difficult for an experienced person to replicate the error of an amateur.... because of the muscle memory that becomes a reflex over the time yet he manages to not just help us with the right methods but co-relate the errors that a newbie might be going through...

      Bro i know how to do ollies fr fr
      alright so first you have to have a comfortable stance (of course), be on your balls of both of your feet, on the back foot don't slam it down, just bend down jump up and when you first jump up kick down with the balls of you feet which will make you go up when you do an ollie... (note: don't slam it down... just kick it down lightly or moderate, it'll click on the ground on its own..) then lift up your back and front foot, your front foot will go sideways while your knees go up to under or to your chest and slide up your front foot, LAND!!! The reason people can't ollie is because they don't jump remember ALWAYS TRY TO JUMP!!! if you don't jump your board won't go up that's why beginners only can get it 1 inch off the ground ... i haven't gotten my ollies SUPER GOOD LIKE PROS but it's a start i can go 3 inches off the ground! When i didn't know this trick i use to see my back foot always stay on the tail then jump a second after that's why you can't ollie! So hope this helps guys... REMEMBER *Stance, Balance, Crouch, Jump, kick down, bring front foot up, slide foot on grip tape, bring back foot up also, LAND!!!*

    I gotta disagree on the "learn it rolling from the start" advice even though a lot of skaters say this. Overcoming the fear is a major part of the process and a lot of new skaters will quit if they don't have a way of slowly overcoming the fear. I tried to learn the ollie rolling as a kid and took some bad spills. I ended up quitting completely after just two months of skating in my early teens from the shear pain, frustration, and unfathomable difficulty.
    I turned 30 last year and I bought a skateboard looking to recapture my youth and conquer a past failure act of cowardice. I used skater trainers, which I was able to ollie with after just one 30 min session. I wasn't super great at stationary ollies, I ditched them after just 2 sessions and moved onto stationary w/o trainers because the whole point was to gain some transferable muscle memory and over the mental obstacle. Took me a week to get comfortable with stationary ollies without trainers, and then another two weeks of practicing rolling. Something I felt I was insurmountable as a kid thrown into the fire without slower progression suddenly became a reality in about a month of incremental improvement.
    Some say rolling ollies are a different trick. Huh? Wut? Sure, the physics shift a bit, but the basics are still the same.

      Ive gotten decent at ollies for a week, trying to get manuals down and when i try to roll and ollie the board shoots out or i jump and my board doesnt follow. So Ive rode boards for 13 years of every different style but at 25 i think its time to go back to basic tricks. And ollie-ing and while riding,will be my only goal

      I agree. I think it’s important to learn stationary first. It gets you over that fear of falling while popping the board. Gets you used to landing on the board and maintaining a balance while the trucks shift from your weight.

    Key tips for the Ollie: bend your back knee to lift up the tail, start off small, don’t try to make your first few Ollie’s 12 inches high, your front foot higher up the board will help level out better because you don’t have to slide up too much until you hit the nose of the board, don’t feel like your trying to do it, think like you already know how to do it, that helps with confidence

      DONT shift your weight back. Jump STRAIGHT UP with the weight equal in both legs, and as soon as you start coming up a little bit flick your ankle. This the most important part of the pop, and the pop is the most important part of an Ollie. Pop your ankle down the same way you pop your wrist down when playing basketball. Jump first, pop almost immediately after. If you try an Ollie and shift your weight backwards it’ll be impossible to land

      You’re back foot can come off the board a little, but it really shouldn’t. And if it does it should be above the board. Sounds like a balance problem or a technique problem.

Just this video and Braille’s skateboardings video but this truly helped with trying to practice with rolling and getting comfy with the board the shoulders also helped a lot in still practicing them to get them higher but I can jump ledges bc of you love you continue doing this your helping hundreds of beginners everyday doing this simple trick!!!

    • @graemep7729
      @graemep7729 7 років тому +1

      Yes, have fun by rolling around and practice going over speedbumps and down curbs. You will get really comfortable, making ollies seem possible. Remember, don’t get stuck, stop an ‚impossible‘ trick and do the things you enjoy in skating, that’s what makes it fun. If you want, slowly try pushing and kick turning switch. Good luck!

    I'm the least consistent person in everything i do in my life, skating included. I spent over a year just learning to ride , ollie and flipping the board. Not landing anything other than stationary ollies and some really bad moving ones, cause each time i stepped on a board i had not skated in like months. I am now like 5 months without doing anything, and i kinda wanna go back but im also pretty weak about it as i know i will probably be shit at it again cause that much time has passed. So kids, if you wanna get good, just don't be like me and skate consistently. Thanks for the vid btw, i had been looking for one of this tutorials tho i ended figuring out my problem with moving ollies was just lack of practice and some riding and board control skills like not having any control over the nose ( lifting it) as i yet just ride regular it was difficult to figure out. Same happened with powerslides, im kinda out of commitment for those but got to do something that looked like the movement i should be doing. I just tried to put my feet on each nose and tail and raise each, like walking with the board (idk if this has a name) practising that really helped me. Anyways i should be back to skating, hope this long ass shit story helped somebody

      make sure your front foot is staying centered on the board when you slide it up! also have your back foot pop directly in the middle of the tail. Make sure you are centered with your board as you lift off the ground and land it.

    Dude thank you for posting this (years ago). I've always been a bike guy, but skating is something that has been on my mind for a long time. Years ago I learned the gross mechanics for an ollie, but ALWAYS could not keep myself from turning. Again today, like 15 years later, I am able to ollie but still have that rotation problem with my shoulders. I'm definitely going to try shifting my weight towards the front and try that moving ollie into the grass--I think those are great tips.
