Thanks Lee for bringing this performance by her to my ears. It is just beautiful.
How wonderful, Lee. One of my all time favorite singers. A beautiful, pure voice that she truly knows how to use. Everything from phrasing to dynamics are always so right on.
Her collaborations with Cohen were legendary. "Famous Blue Raincoat" is, for me, one of the great albums of all time and "Song of Bernadette" still brings me to tears. Every. Single. Time.
I love that album also. Joan Of Arc is my favorite song on it.
She did Bernadette on a Smothers Brothers reunion in 1988....it is STILL the best thing I've ever seen/heard on TV.. I cry too...every time.
So it Goes, from the film Norma Jean, introduced me to Jennifer. My first album of hers was Shot Through the Heart. It became one of my soundtracks through the 1980s. Still play it. Her version of Remember Me is especially outstanding.
It's way too late in time, but my one wish would be to hear Jennifer and Linda Ronstadt in a song together. What a thrill that would be.
They have sung together, not as a duet (unfortunately) but as duel backing vocalists for other artists: Randy Newman ("Christmas in Capetown" and "I'm Different"); Warren Zevon ("Excitable Boy"); and Adam Mitchell ("Dancin' Round and Round" and "Out Among the Stars"). Despite being relegated to the background, their blend is unmistakable.
I hadn't heard her version before. Absolutely beautiful. Many times you take me on a journey back in time and give a bit of the inside information not readily found about different tracks, but this is one of the few times when it was all completely new to me. Hope you are well and having a blessed day.
I was lucky enough to be in the studio for most of Jennifer's wonderful 'Famous Blue Raincoat' tribute to Leonard Cohen. Magical times at Massenburg's The Complex. The first time I heard her sing live in the room, I thought I would come out of my skin..absolutely breath taking..she is so vastly under appreciated. Thank you for sharing a taste of her remarkable talent.
Joan of Arc live just shaves the song famous blue raincoat for mine but what a close call. The way she delivers on stage also memerises me....
As a musician who covered other artists, one of my favorite compliments was, you cover that song so well…it sounds as if you wrote it. I will not be able to listen to this song again without hearing this beautiful cover. I always knew Jennifer Warnes was a strong singer, but damn this cover was beautiful. Billy always said he wanted to just be a song writer and not a singer, I guess Jennifer Warnes can make that argument for him. Thanks Leland you never fail to open our musical hearts, minds, and sensibilities by exposing artists that built the music industry today and paved the way for the “products” that are being passed off for music…not that there are not great artists today but the power of tradition cannot be denied.
Jennifer is so great. "The Hunter" is a masterpiece (sonically as well, of course).
Thanks Leland for all you are doing. Amazing dedication to keep this up for so long.
Thank you. Had not heard this particular one sung by Jennifer Warnes. Also, one of these days you'll have to show us the yard and all the new work you've been doing.
Some of the most beautiful lyrics I’ve heard about love in a good, long time. In her high register, when she lets go a bit, Jennifer’s timbre has echoes, to my ear, of Judy Collins. I wonderful new discovery for me today. Thank you Lee, for yet another introduction. I will seek out her latest album and other works.
I don't know how many times I've heard that song but this was the first time it brought me to tears. Thanks so much.
❤😊Love this. Wishing you smooth sailing at the DMV!🍀
My dad and brother are both having to jump through all those hoops again right now as well.
Jennifer has a gorgeous voice full of emotion.
Thank you for show casing Jennifer Warren whose early work can be seen in the recent 2021 Netflix documentary ‘Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song’ which is excellent and I have watched more than once.
Again my and our appreciation for the documenting of your work with so many talented other people in the recording business. 👍
Hey brother.✌️
@@steven_scattergood
It is good to see you back. I was hoping you would stop by and a short time after Lastname First made an appearance. You both brightened my day. ☀
@@artemisXsidecross My health hasn’t been great but I am pushing through. Missed you guys and our little family has never been out of my thoughts. I think Sue has been in hospital and I have to reply to her message from the other day. Thank you for beautiful words as soothing words no matter what they are is the best medication just like the balms we used when we were young and it fixed everything.😎🙃

We live near an edge of our health concerns, they remind us of our task for seeking meaning beyond what we may have been told.
It is an heroic passage. ☀
This is one of my favorites of Billy Joel. Never heard this wonderful cover from Jennifer Warnes though. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Have a wonderful day, Lee.
Oops must have overslept as I went to bed in April but woke up in August. LOL. One song l absolutely love by Jennifer Warnes is First We Take Manhattan with SRV on guitar. Always great to hear her voice. Great music Lee. Hopefully tomorrow l will be back in April.✌️😎
Being back is more important than when 😉
@@artemisXsidecross Very true brother but sometimes I feel stuck in the middle. Does the twilight zone actually exist?😎✌️

The Buddhists call it The Middle Way. In quantum mechanics it was the spot between a wave and particle before an observation.
There is more mystery than knowledge, I can find a comfort in that.
You said a mouthful, " The beautiful Jennifer Warnes." A beautiful voice. I remember an lp of Leonard Cohen songs, so many great songs. Thanks for the memories, Lee.
Famous Blue Raincoat
Jennifer Warnes’ album of Leonard Cohen songs Famous Blue Rsincoat is fantastic.
Yes one of the great albums
Wow! Great video. Looking forward to seeing you in Peoria, IL with Lyles Large Band. Agree about Wisconsin Outcome Yay! Janice D.
Time must go faster in California - it’s only just April here in the U.K. 😂. Seriously though that’s a beautiful song, beautifully sung. I think you enjoyed that Lee.
I think Parrot records was for the group "Them" or Van Morrison. I think. Jennifer has been given a gift of beauty in her compositions. Just Beautiful. Thanks Leland. Those deranged drivers are all over the United States, be careful. Have a good one and Happy Birthday Kooch. You are Cool. New York Minute, sitll my favorite and many others of course. Take care guys and God Bless. Doug
Thanks Leland for sharing this one with the great Jennifer Warnes! Watch out for Mr. Magoo at the DMV, I heard he's in charge of road tests now. 🤔😂🤣😎🤠
WOW! chills down my spine cause of her soul touching voice -blessed to hear her. Thanks much Lee -much luv to you & urs
Beautiful Leland! Wow! Fantastic music, stories, history. Another "home run" my friend! You time and energy is much appreciated!
All best at DMV. Great to know that the large band tour will hit Providence!
I always thought Jennifer Warnes had an exceptionally beautiful voice. Her rendition of “First We Take Manhattan” is just excellent. She was never that high profile pop singer type. But she can hold her own with anyone.
Hey there Lee and everyone!
What a perfect moment of fellowship. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood,"
Such a beautiful and PURE singer
Thank 😊 You for Jennifer Warnes' Revisit ❤️ today. Very 😎 Cool!
Good news! The drivers written test won't ask you what month it is. Voted yesterday and am delighted that Judge Janet won. Wisconsin has been fiercely committed in the race to the bottom since 2010. This may be when we turn a 180. I'm surprised by the 11 point margin. Thanks for Jennifer❤️👍❤️👍
Evening Lee and all
Greetings from Epping UK
Cheers Barry 🎸
@@hanspeterlillese2225 Not surprised by the result Newcastle are playing very well and we are not.
I’m aware of new manager bounce but doubt a sacking and who’s available to takeover?
@@hanspeterlillese2225 There are so many factors, I don't pretend to know
In my opinion - Jennifer Warnes maybe the greatest vocalist ever
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful arrangement
I first found Jennifer Warnes when she did I've Had the Time of my Life with Bill Medley for Dirty Dancing
The quality in her voice is so amazing!! God given!! I just love her!!
Good news! That August reference went right by me, had to go back to hear it. But, in any case, 🎶 Time heals everything-- April, August🎶
Yes indeed she sounds very true ! Thank You As Always!
Nice song with some great lyrics. Really enjoyed this.
Beautiful. I had to go back and listen to her cover of Song of Bernadette. She has lovely phrasing.
Time stopped. Doesn't happen often but when all the elements come together like that, the Muse appears and... can't explain it.
Hi, Lee. Have a good day! Good luck at DMV.
Jennifer Warnes is such a treasure.
My all time fav of hers is Famous Blue Raincoat.
I am going to give Kootch three birthday wishes.........One yesterday........now one today and officially tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday again, Danny! 💖 It's the 04/06/2023 (US date) across the pond already! 💖 ✡️💖
Great show today!!! We really appreciate you always bringing a great story and a song!!!!
I love her songs. So powerful.
You will be in my town June 15 in Newport KY (Cincinnati OH), cool venue, will find you there.
Let me add Jennifer could be added to one of the great singers......such a voice and I think underrated!!!!
Lots of Times Much Nicer to Walk Than Drive. . . 😊 Happy Birthday Danny 'Kootch' Kortchmar! 💓 "May the Road Rise Up to Greet You and May the Wind Be Always to Your Back. . ."
Thank you Lee ✋🏻 have a nice day 👌🏻
Beautiful......
First time I saw JW was back in the sixties when she was a semi-regular on the Smothers Brothers show. An amazing talent then, an amazing talent now.
Jennifer Warnes is the best... person, singer, you name it. I had the great pleasure of getting her to sign an old early-70's album of hers, about 10 years or so ago when she came to a theater in Portland. I think she was afraid I was just going to sell it on eBay, but I framed it and proudly hung it on my living room wall. She signed it, "With passionate memories... Jennifer." Her recording of "Song of Bernadette" slays me every time I hear it. By the way, appreciate your comments on the Wisconsin judicial election, Lee. That was a watershed moment in our history. I shudder to think of the direction we'd all be heading in, had it turned out otherwise.
Good afternoon, Lee! 👋. Ah….the DMV……always a fave place to hang out…….NOT.😏
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
I am from Wisconsin, and I approve of the contents of this video… Thanks Lee!
I'm in Two Rivers on the Lake Michigan shore. Where are you?
@@slipperynoodle20 outside of Madison. I guess there is still a veto proof majority in the legislature… We still have a lot of work to do!
Incredibly moving song by Billy Joel. So many great versions of this one. Joel, of course, Roberta Flack, The King's Singers, and others. Jennifer Warnes, in my opinion, outshines them all. This version ranks high among my all-time favorite recordings.
🤓🤓. Fascinating bio!!! Gorgeous arrangement!!!
Right time of the night and Up where we belong are KILLER!!!!!!!!
very funny, my BD is today, but many people, including my late father always thought it was on the 7th. So I relate to Cooch lol.
However, knowing my personality for the last 60 years. I do believe I should have been born on the 1st of April.
Evening, Lee! Oh, Massachusetts drivers are just as awful, trust me. But, I've never run into any worse drivers than New York. 😆
Jennifer has such a lovely, resonating voice; beautiful song by Billy Joel. 🎵
As always, I love ya! 🥰🎵🎸🤗
Unless I'm having a brain fart I seem to remember that she performed in the stage play of "Hair" in the nude. I too am from Milwaukee and was born the same year as you, Lee. I'm proud of my home state too - they saved the day.
Y’all are gonna be near Detroit June 22nd. May have to hit that one.
My last trip to the DMV to renew my license, including written test, took less than an hour. If it weeds out even a few drivers like the man who killed many people at the Famers Market, it's worth it. It's also the only way we got my father's keys away from him. He couldn't pass the Arizona test. Thank God.
We were wigging the first time I saw my mom make a turn that wasn't up to her standard (at 88, I believe), but now I get passed and woven through on the freeway pretty much every time by ultraspeeding drivers who are far more dangerous than she ever was...
👍
Famous Blue Raincoat is a desert island top ten must have…
Love your videos.🥁😎🥁
Yeah... the driver's handbook has changed over the years... in Alabama it is now illegal to drive if your blind!
I must have been asleep for four months 🤔🤔🤫
Take care❤
Evening Leland👍👍
👍🏼
Hey Leland
Seems like I fell a bit behind in my listening, but with songs like this, catching up is delightful!
Today’s track is a delicate rendition of a beautiful song but I can’t hear any Bass Guitar.
Happy Birthday Danny Kortchmar (take 2)🥳. It’s already the 6th in South Australia!
Leland, June 28 Lyle's at Red Rocks with The Colorado Symphony. The symphony is joining The Large Band right?? Thanks for what you do!
April 4th is my daughter's birthday. I haven't spoken with her since 2006, by her refusal. Have a great day everyone.
Peace, ❤️ Love, and Light for You, Mark, and Yours, at Passover; this Spring and Easter, and Always
A handshake takes more than one set of hands to compete, my father and I never did complete one after 1964. He’d refused to offer his hand.
The healing hands of time can sometimes be absent and is tragic to go unfulfilled. 💔
@@kateconway-hickman5945 Thank you Kate.
@@artemisXsidecross Thanks and all the best to you Artemis.
Mark........(((((Hugs))))), today is my b' day and I'll talk to you anytime ( poor substitute I know )🤷
Bad driving has swept the nation like a pestilence over the past several years. Tailgating, in particular, has become pandemic. It's no longer limited to Massatwoshits. On another note, we should just go ahead, be done with it, and celebrate Kootch every damn day. I was just talking about "And So it Goes" to someone earlier. Today is also the great Robert Glasper's (real) birthday and that classic Billy Joel tune is one of his favorites. Jennifer's version is gorgeous.
Leland, how is your wife doing these days, has she recovered from her illness and feeling much better?
What a voice!
Is this going to be Lyle Lovett and his big band summer tour?
Yes
@@lelandsklar6363 Is Brad going to be there too?🎉
Hands on the steering wheel - 9 oclock and 3 oclock, it's not 10 and 2 like it was 40 - 50 years ago! Best of luck!
I wish it was August 5th
Howdy on this day
Take your bass to their office and play them your contribution to Phil Collins' "Heat on the Street", and you sure will pass the "rhythm test".
❤❤❤
5th of August Damn that Cali Smog has gotten 2 ya!!
Have you done much driving in the NYC area?🤔
I count on you for many things but Please don’t make it august already! Thanks for #1296.
Go Badgers!!
♥
Does L.A. County still have parallel parking on the driving test?
Personally never had a problem with it myself, however many have complained loud enough that some states no longer need people to prove that they can do it😂👍
Yeah...like complaining about it will make that skill obsolete 🤔😂
😎👍❤🖖
Love Brother
If it works with college entrance exams and not breaking the law, and knowing anything about history why not parallel parking?
@@SoundsFair--M-and-J
😉👍
5th of April.
😃😃
Hey Lee, did you report your beard color to the DMV ?
Bad drivers,??? try coming to New Zealand Lee, some of the stuff on the roads down here would curl your beard.!!! I'm convinced most of them either won their license in a raffle or got it from the bottm of a cereal box and sadly the police here don't seem to give a damn unless you're doing more than 3kms over the limit.
5th of August?
I take the 5th.
August?
Does anyone in the crowd ever shoot birds at you?
Of course!
Her voice reminds me of Gwyneth Paltrow
