    LOL! HeyLance. 74+ crappie jig tyer. Got back into tying after retiring. The internet fly tying explosion opened a WORLD of fun for me. I've always admired the artistic flys tied by trout fishermen. I used books by Eric Leiser, Dick Talleur, and david Klausmeyer to adapt their creations to crappie fishing before the web. NOW I "steal" ideas from all you guys on the web.I really just wanted to say thanks to all of you at FFF and all the other fly tying channels. I never see anyone posting Thank You from the "crappie nuts" for your great help and ideas. So, THANKS TO YOU & ALL THE TROUT & SALTWATER FLY FISHERMEN from a 68 year veteran of crappie fishing!!!! Semper Fi.

    Love this on the Daiichi 1730 hook which have a slight bend that lets you line up the eyes with the main shaft.

    Lovin your tie vids. No B.S. just straight to the point and almost always with a tip or two that make a big difference. Please don't stop Lance! Oh and great effort at World's this year. It may have been in impossible weather conditions but it makes for a great story.

      James R Borsevich it isn’t light olive simi seal. It’s a custom blend we have made for this particular fly.

    I’ve had that migrating eye issue before. I usually put a good ball of thread on the hook before I put the eyes on, so it can’t move forward and I know where to place them. Love simple flies 👍

    Do you use this pattern to do the jigged euro streamer technique? Or just as a standard streamer with a streamer rod

  • @tylerchaney9906
    @tylerchaney9906 4 роки тому +1

    Hey Lance I heard you on a podcast talking about rod weight when fishing streamers. Would this be a good example of a streamer that could be used on a 5wt or 6wt rod rather than say an 8wt?

      Tyler Chaney I fish this on a 5 wt and it works great

    Looks like a very effective sculpin/ baitfish imitation. One question though. Why monofilament and not wire?

    Thanks Lance. Could you comment on how you fish that streamer please? Dead drift, stripped or swung? I'm guessing dead drift euro style.

    I tie and love a similar pattern, the biggest issue is that long tail is going to produce a lot of missed takes. I can't begin to tell you how many of these guys I find myself trimming the tail riverside before they hit the meat of the hook

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  5 років тому +1

      Ben G. Doesn’t seem to be a problem at all with this one. If you are missing fish, I’d suggest a good solid strip set and you will land more of them.

      @PullingRugs 5 років тому +1

      @@FlyFishFood lol maybe! I'll let you know when trimming quits working! Lol l, I like your ties brother, I'm an avid follower. Can't bite the hand that feeds so many great patterns

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 5 років тому +1

      Ben G. If you use a standard length hook and long tail I think you’ll find short strikes are not an issue. I tie all my stillwater buggers and leeches with tails that are at least 2x the body length and missing fish is not a problem. If you’re comparing long tails on a large, long shank hook then that is apples and oranges. Even with small stocked rainbows they don’t often miss.

      @@Lanceeganflyfishing All true, it's just my experience with long tails in slow moving winter waters...these patterns great to fish, swim beautifully and are fun to throw, especially in some warmer streams. My biggest problem come with long tails and lethargic fish in the cold, they will tease the fly, pull it in for a taste and spit it right out before the hook gets in far enough to rip lips. Again, not hating on the pattern, just a tip when you see a fly rejected after a take or fail to set.

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 5 років тому

      Ben G. Thx for the suggestion. I promise to cut the tails if I get short strikes. Several years of successfully fishing this pattern (and many others with long tails) with no issues makes me think it won’t be a problem. Either way, happy angling to you!
