  • This African cichlid aquarium has about 39 peacocks and haps, and only ONE mbuna! This is usually a bad idea, so is it working out for my cichlid aquarium? Has it worked in YOUR cichlid tank? Let me know in the comments!
Cichlid Charmer is dedicated to sharing the joy of keeping African and American cichlids and sharing information about them. I will share what I have learned about cichlids, and everyone is welcomed to comment with their own experiences and information about cichlids and aquarium practices in general.

@@beachaddict7653 many peacocks are just as aggressive as mbuna, they just aren't as hardy. As far as Haps go you just need to mix in a couple bigger ones like Venustus for example. My son has a Hap Peacock tank right now and I have an mbuna tank and his fish are wildly more aggressive than mine.

Yeah, I've never had a problem, I've even thrown in some Tropheous, and Lethrinops, no problem.
ANY fish can be aggressive, you can research all you want, but at the end of the day, your individual fish does what your individual fish does. My Labs just chilled around the rocks and made tons of babies. No problems at all.

@@CichlidCharmer man that saying goes for all fish. I had some bluegill in a Central and South American tank. The biggest bluegill was the tank boss even with a Peacock Bass that was roughly the same size. Also had a huge Oscar with a Jaguar and that worked until one day when the Oscar decided to lash out. The Jag wasn't having it and in about five seconds I had an Oscar with a broken back. I didn't even have time to react. They'd been together almost 3 years prior to that.

Big colourful flower horns and sinspilums, Oscars, electric yellows and blues, hongis, peacocks, parrots, Red Devils, frontosas and so many more I would like like a fool naming them all. 30cm+ Plecos and some smaller super expensive plecos, different types of catfish. Cichlids can be mixed among other cichlids as long as your tank is big enough for them to post up in their own proximity when needed. That is, enough area around them to feel less stressed and if the tank is big enough, room to relax at times.

I put him in a tank with a juvenile pair of wolf cichlids thinking the bully would be put in his place and they completely ignored him but also he did not gauge their eyes out long story short if you have a cichlid tank that works just consider yourself blessed and leave well enough alone.

I wanted peackock and hap tank, but ended up ordering both due to a buy 8, get 2 free special and their peacocks were limited. They were added with the 3 mbuna and pleco i already had. I haven't lost anyone yet, but I see a lot of territorial disputes.i recently lowered the temperature per one of your suggestions😊

I guess they were pretty split evenly because I had like 15 peacocks, 5 frontosa, 20 mbuna, like 10 yellow and blk tropheus and some shell dwellers and I remember only losing 1 fish to aggression and it was an mbuna that was getting bullied by the biggest mbuna 🤷🏻‍♂️ I didn’t know much back then but it all worked out beautiful after roughly 6 years I sold the whole thing for $200 with fish and everything 😂 what a waste
