Jack frost was garbage when i went i wouldnt even recommend anyone from NY going there, not worth it at all. Coming from Colorado it would be miserable at JF
The crowding is also probably due to bus trips from NYC. Hunter is one of the mountains the buses all go to as a day trip. I assume the one 30 mins down the road you're talking about is Belleayre? For some reason the NYC buses don't go to that mountain. But yeah, I grew up going to Belleayre and when I went to Hunter for the first time last year I wasn't too impressed for all the hype it gets.
Yeah out here in the north East weekends are terrible! But yeah unless you're able to travel mid week epic pass out here aint really worth it everything is spread out and our season is usually shorter, icier and crowded. The best advice to avoid the lines at Hunter is hit the 2 man on the far right, and then the 3 man that's halfway up the mountain to get to the top! Never waited longer than 5 minutes on busy Saturdays that way! Vail does oversell tho, you should see the way they pack the PA mountains
It’s been super crowded at Hunter even during most weekdays this year. To avoid the lines park at Hunter north and stay on the Hunter North and Hunter West Lifts.
I feel like my area has been consistently more busy than normal. I figured it was due to people working from home more and having more time or something of that nature but conditions have also been great too.
You are 100% correct on the epic pass stuff, I personally got the pass that includes (gore, whiteface, bellarye) not bad lines and I got the pass for $450 dollars since I’m a teenager.

@@danielmaloney1050 just making a point, which is that you can’t compare the mountains out west to east coast resorts. For example the highest in Vermont is Killington at under 5k feet. The resorts have features you don’t find out East such as cornices, massive bowls, above tree line terrain, insane coulairs and gully’s and drops. Impressive tree skiing and also amazing Apres Ski.
