  • What's it like to Own THREE Generations of Chevrolet's CORVETTE Z06
    Hello everyone and welcome back to Brink of Speed! I'm so excited about this video because I get to talk to you all about the 3 Z06's that I've had the pleasure of owning!
    I was fortunate enough to own a 2003 50th anniversary Red Corvette Z06 and I bought this car in June of 2005 with only 1200 miles on it for $37,500 the original sticker was $58,000. This was simply put an amazing Corvette! It came with an LS6 5.7 liter V8 that had 405hp and 405 torque. I immediately started taking this car racing! I took it to the drag strip the first week I owned it and with this car being bone stock I was able to put down a 13.5 at 5800 feet above sea level! I didn’t, however, find out how well this car handled until I got it out on the autocross tracks and road courses. I couldn’t believe the grip that this car had! I was able to take down a few cars that had way more horsepower than me too, which is just another testament to how light this car was! The only upgrade I ended up having installed was a B&B Bullet exhaust, which made this car sound like a Nascar! Anyway, it wasn’t just a car built for the track, it also had a decently smooth ride driving it around town and on the highway. This car was balanced beautifully, the steering was tight and it gave you tons of confidence while driving it in any dry conditions. This z06 also had sleek beautiful lines and was quite exotic looking back then! As far as the interior went, I didn’t like the seats at all, they were like something you would see in a cheap GM car, not a $58,000 Corvette Z06! I did like everything else in the interior though, just not those seats. Overall though, this was a great first Corvette to own and was miles above anything I had ever driven, performance wise!
    Moving on to my 2009 black Corvette Z06 3LZ. I bought this car in December of 2016, it had 32,000 miles on it for $40,000. Its original sticker was $85,000. This car was far from stock and had even been lowered. I feel in love it, the moment I heard it start up! I also took this car to the drag strip shortly after I bought it and it was fun, but this car dyno'ed at 576 RWHP so it couldn't hook up at all in first gear with the tires that were on there. I ended up getting an 11.8 run at sea level, but this car could have run in the 10's easily with the right tires and a great run! I was able to race a few really fast cars while I owned this Z06 and only one gave this car a run for its money. I destroyed a new GTR, a modded Hellcat, and 3 C7 Z06's amongst others. Again this car wasn't just built to head to the race track and set fast times, it was also nice to drive down the road whether, on the highway or normal streets, it had a smooth ride too. This car also gave you a lot of confidence while driving it, because it was a well-made machine! As far as the looks of this car go, not much really changed between the c5 and c6, however, I definitely liked the c6 looks a little better than the c5. The interior was also not too bad but I had 2 complaints in this car. The steering wheel and the seats, they were both cheaply made! Overall this car was again a pleasure to own and drive and had an amazing performance!
    Now on to my 2015 Laguna Blue Corvette Z06 3LZ with the Z07 package on it. I bought this car in June of this year and paid $73,000. Its original sticker was $105,000. This car isn't even in the same league as my first 2 Z06's, it is worlds better! From the phenomenal new exterior looks to the beautiful interior, which BTW I have no more complaints about the seats! I took this car to the track a few weeks after I bought it and it was absolutely astonishing! It had a level of grip and handling I've never experienced before! Add to this, that it has an electrically controlled magnetic suspension, that gives you a plush, semi-stiff, or track-stiff ride with 650hp & 650 torque and you have a recipe for one of the highest performing cars under 110k that will make you feel like you own a European exotic car! When doing a side by side by side comparison of all 3 Z06's. I would say that if you want to own one of the highest performance cars built in the world, figure out what your budget is and then start searching for either a C5, C6, or C7 Z06 because all 3 of them will knock your socks off and you will love every joyful, exciting moment that these cars will bring you, everytime you look at them and especially when you get behind the wheel and drive them!

    I was driving my bone stock c6z06 and a c7z06 pulled up next to me on the fwy, we did a few pulls and he couldnt manage to pull but half car length on me... we ended up taking the same exit and talked for bit, he couldn't believe how fast my c6z06 was! Truth be told i was more surprised that my car was able to keep up with his c7z06! Definitely made my night!

    I presently own these same cars,c5 z06,c6 z06 and c7 z06. I'd just like to say this to all the people who complained about the seats in the c5 and c6,they may have cheaply made in comparison to the the c7,but to me they were 1000 times more comfortable and know someone out agrees with this

      Daniel Slone That’s so cool that own all those cars right now! I for one like the comfort of my C7 seats way more than the C6 or C5 seats! Thank you for your feedback sir!

    Thanks for your great video. I own almost the twin to your 2015 ZO6. Mine is a ZO6 Laguna Blue 2016 and it doesn't have the ZO7 package. My first Vette was a 2008 C6 convertible that was also a fantastic car.

    Hey Mike, wanted to thank you for sending me to World of Corvettes in Dallas; awesome place with awesome people! I ended up buying a 2019 Grand Sport from another dealer but wanted to tell you that, partly, because of your videos....I am a first time Vette owner. You also inspired me to create my own channel. I hope to meet you one day at a rally or something like that. Thank you for always putting out great videos!

    nice video, I assume you will be waiting for the Z06 version of the C8? Used like you purch is the way to go. So looks like you won't be getting the C8 for several years. That is of course that they release a Z06 version.

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  5 років тому

      Theclassiccarnut Thank you! Actually no, this will be the first time that I buy a brand new Corvette and I'm going to do my best to buy the first model that comes out! It is the only smart move for this channel!

    Holy Cow Mike! You bought a C5 Z06 Cash at 25????????????? Then you traded that one for the c6 at age 36, and at age 38 you bought the c7 z06 3lz with z07. that's really cool, how do I start? I'm only 18 and in college lol! what age should be ideal? and should I start with a stingray and move up? Thxsss

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  5 років тому +2

      Ivan Franco Actually I didn’t buy them with cash and I got rid of my first one after 3.5 years. If you have the money to buy one, I recommend getting one as soon as you can. As far as what model you should get, that is completely up to you. Some don’t care if they have a Z06 or not, they just want a Corvette period. Again though if you have the money, get what you like best! 😊

      Just save till you have enough man that's what I'm doing. then getting a loan to buy the car and using the money I saved to pay off said loan to build credit. You're gonna pay hell on insurance too when I was 17 my Camaros insurance was like 200 something and it was PLPD. Not even full coverage, which I'm sure ur gonna want for the Corvette.

    Excellent, excellent comparison video Mike. But wait just a gull darn minute. Hold the phone, stop the music! You're saying we should purchase one of these ZO6's "and never look back?" And right after I spent hours adjusting my rear view mirrors, test driving, re-adjusting and re-test driving multiple times in order to get my rear view mirrors adjusted perfectly, in accordance with your video of November 3rd, so that I COULD LOOK BACK!??? What's next? Telling us to wait and buy a C8 where all the rear view mirrors are fully automated and totally computerized for "perfect rear view viewing with just the touch of button?" Sorry, but I can't afford this channel anymore. I'm going to "How Doyougo in a Hugo" channel. The Hugo only has one rear-view mirror, so it's one and done! No time wasted so that I can get behind the wheel and enjoy the absolutely blistering 0 to 60 speed in 32.5 seconds. If that's not fast enough, they recommend I remove the passenger seat, rear seat, heater, hood, trunk lid and spare tire which will give me a 0 to 60 speed in a flat 32.0 seconds. Not THAT is what I call being on the Brink of Speed!
