Sophie Campbell killed TMNT for me and Aaron isn't exactly reigniting that flame. The book isn't terrible but it's not great either. I'll see where it goes now that the brothers are back together and I'm glad they didn't drag it out with them being split up but I still don't have high hopes with Aaron.
I thoroughly enjoyed Williamson's Superman but Dan Mora's art is the the icing on the cake. If Mora only stays on one book between Superman and JLU I hope it's Superman. I didn't find Justice League's first issue very interesting beyond the artwork.

I like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Mirage Studios. The 1980s comic book was always dark, grim and gritty similar to Daredevil written by Frank Miller and Ann Nocenti. However, I am also a fan of the 1987 animated series and despite the fact that the Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comic was much more edgy, I still like the animated television series better in general overall. The old, original story of T.M.N.T. is cool, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Saturday Morning Adventures is just much more appealing to me.

There’s dark and then there is nihilist demoralizing depressing trash.
The essence of the Turtles is found in Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman’s run as well as the guest creator era and this isn’t a reflection of that imho.

Hyde Street - creepy, creepy and some more creepy. You do not want to get on Pranky's bad side. It's great.
Hornsby & Halo - tons of fun and a solid debut.
Absolute WW - a good story that is bogged down by mediocre art.
JL Unlimited - an ok-ish story with Dan Mora firing on all cylinders. Hush 2 preview/teaser was... there. Yeah, that's pretty much it, it was there.
Black Canary - a bland Tom King comic book with a premise that the more you think about the more it falls apart. Plus the usual: bad mother-daughter relationship and superhero casually threatening someone with a brutal murder.

Don't understand what is with the claptrap concerning Snyder's Absolute Batman. I just finished reading Bat-Man: The First Knight HC by Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins featuring the Golden Age Batman. This is the best Batman I have read since The Killing Joke back in 1988.

The art is good and I get a feeling that people just want a Batman series they can like, which seemingly isn’t the current one. I personally see some appeal in it, but I don’t really want an alternate version of Batman that got a lot of Batman scrapped off.
So imo it’s a bit like Ultimate Spider-Man: people are disappointed by the main line version and want just something that isn’t bad.

Hyde Street, Green Arrow and Justice League were all masterful this week. Great books that get me excited about next year. Feral was great, Hulk and Superman were solid. Had a bit of a problem with Frankenstein. Though I appreciate the different point of view, I felt that the monster lacked humanity. It was just sort of a murdering machine, not to different from the way he was written in the original script that James Whale threw out. While interesting, I wanted something closer to Karloff I guess.

I feel like Donatello gets constantly shit on by the writers. He seems to have Spider-Man syndrome. Magic withdrawal and the challenge to his scientific beliefs said magic imposed. Fighting to stay alive against hillbilly hicks. Having his father die(all the turtles suffered from this obviously). Abandoned by his brothers when he needed them the most. Oh and let's not forget when he nearly died and had to get an artificial shell. If I missed anything lmk. Stop treating my boy Donnie this way. I read the issue and he seems off his rocker now.

    Great recommendations all round;
Grommets is probably up there as my comic of the year; artwork and vibe perfectly channeling this story Remender has been wanting to tell for years. Drew totally missing the point that this is autobiographical, despite Remender having talked about this scene he’s referring to both in the past and the actual letters pages of this series!!
Green Arrow off to a great start. Condon one of the few shining lights of the past few years fulfilling his potential. Get Ahmed the hell off of Daredevil and get Condon on it.
Feral has been intense as hell.
Hyde Street another winner for Johns.
Superman has been good fun. Hulk has been decent, but has dragged on.
No mention of justice League Unlimited, obviously due to Waid, which was mediocre and featured some of the worst colouring I’ve ever seen in comics. Almost impossible to work out what the hell is going on in some panels.

Hulk 19 was awful for me. Hulk new sidekick becoming a monster was lazy and pretty stupid in my opinion. This run tries hard to be like Immortal Hulk and fail so badly. I miss the old days when the Hulk ruinning away from the army and in the same time need to handle with enemies like Abomination,Tyrannus and the Leader. Superman being brutal isn't something that I like. I prefer Supes handling with your foes with wits more with your punches. Why don't send Doomsday to the Phantom Zone forever?

There is a big difference between being edgy and being edge lord. In being dark, grim, and gritty. And in being grim dark. The former is realistic despite being fantastic. The latter is fantastic to a fault, trying way too hard to be realistic when there are way too many absurd aspects, and elements. That seems to be the main issue in the writing with comic books about super-hero characters these days.
You either have a world of fantasy and science-fiction and accept it absolutely, or you make an action-adventure, and horror story with verisimilitude to the real world and remove anything that isn't grounded in reality, and rooted in realism.
Apparently, some people just can't accept that fantasy and sci-fi can actually co-exist. And some people can accept that, but they can only accept it if the story reflects the grim reality of the dark world that we all actually exist in.
Well, I'm not wound up too tight like that. I already live in a dangerous, unforgiving place. I don't need it to be in my comics about super-heroes or else I feel like my intelligence is being insulted. I'm not embarrassed or ashamed of being a comic book fan. I just want good entertainment and good escapism.
There seems to be way too many people in the fandoms who are worried about being disrespected for liking nerd, and geek stuff. Not me. I wear that badge proudly. But hey, if they want to limit their imaginations on purpose, that's their stupidity, and their problem. Not mine.
In the meantime, I will continue to indulge myself with so-called "capeshit" so-to-speak. And they can continue to have a stick up their ass that has a stick up its ass.

Tired of these stupid misery porn craps in IDW TMNT over the years. Crazy stick figure Donnie is classic Jason Aaron bullshit. Mutilate a character for some vague dramatic emphasis. Leo's soul searching journey was just an attempt at suicide for no given reason, because Leo hasn't gotten to do anything in several years now. Mikey's celebrity depression was foisted on him by the story, rather than being something built off any previous story, and the only reason he's even there is because of some vague unresolved anger with his family that, just like the rest of them, happened off-screen, has not been explained, probably won't ever be built upon, and all amounts to a really overblown reason to have the turtles split up so they can get back together again after the gimmick of having 4 solo issues for each character.

I would love for Kevin & Pete to actually get together and do a proper story together though, even if it's just a one-shot. Last Ronin was just based on an idea they had back in the late 80s, Pete wasn't really involved other than receiving a writing credit.

Why is it that the majority of Jason Aaron’s books on well known/popular characters are based on retcons? And the retcons are never good. It’s like he can barely come up with a pitch for popular characters unless it changes someone else’s works.

For Silent Knight Returns, I like that the JLA, including Clark, Bruce, Jon, Nubia, Damian, Zatanna, Irey, and Mera were able to work together with Santa Claus to defeat the Silent Knight together. Also, Damian and Irey teaming up (after Bruce and Barry, Dick and Wally, and Tim and Bart, continuing The Batman/Flash generation teamup) and Damian liking Zatanna’s cocoa. Overall, this is a good and fun comic that’s off to a good start!
For the Brave and the Bold, here is what I have to say.
For the first backup, I like that Bruce and Jim needed the Scarecrow’s help to find the mysterious hum (created by the Tin Man) and save Gotham. Overall, this comic is good.
For the second backup, I like that Diana needed Eel’s help to find and locate her Lasso of Truth in 2023 (because it’s after the JLA’s disbandment and before Absolute Power) before they dealt with Mirror House in Central City. Also, referencing various pre-Flashpoint histories, including Final Crisis and Nightwing becoming Batman. Overall, this backup is alright.
For the third backup, I like that J’onn, Buddy, and Maxine worked tog to find something mysterious in the Red. Overall, this backup is good.
For the fourth backup, I find it hilarious that Tim and Damian are dealing with Killer Moth, who wanted revenge on Jason for defeating him and mistakes him for both of them, before they defeated him. Overall, this backup is hilarious.
For Detective Comics, the only good thing about this comic is Bruce telling Clark about science making a breakthrough that slows down aging and then talking to each other about outliving their friends, family, and loved ones. That’s it. Overall, this comic is fine.
For Green Arrow, I like that we get to see Oliver go on patrol in Star City and that we get to see a flashback of him interacting with Senator Foley before it ends with him teaming up with a police officer to uncover a mystery. Chris Condon has done an excellent job of who Oliver is and what he does. Sane thing with the artist, who has done an excellent job on his new suit. Overall, this comic is good.
For Action Comics, I like that Clark was able to save the Phantom Zone criminals and Mon-El before he was able to defeat and try to save Aethyr from his own power. Overall (aside from the Conner and Kenan backup, which is just them making a deal with the Khunds and the space museum to give them their stuff back), this comic is good.
For the Supergirl backup, the only good thing about this is Kara’s prisoner telling her backstory about how she became the destroyer of worlds and us seeing flashbacks of Kara’s adventures during the Woman of Tomorrow miniseries. The rest is us still not knowing what Kara’s mission is. Overall, this backup is okay.
For Black Canary, I like that we get to see Dinah have a fight with Shiva, with the announcer telling the audience their entire histories and the JLA (Happy Harbor, Satellite, Vixen, Kendra, and Vic for some reason) and Lois and Mera rooting for Dinah. I also like that we get to see her interact with her mom Dinah Drake (who is supposed to be dead in 1969 pre-Crisis or 1990 post-Crisis, nearly a century old while her daughter is in her 30s or 40s, and didn’t tell her daughter how she was resurrected after her death). Tom King has done a wonderful job of writing Dinah. Overall, this comic is good and off to a good start.
For Superman, I like that the Time Trapper (who explained his history as Doomsday and as himself) told Clark that he needs to save him, causing him, Lois, and Supercorp to work together and defeat Doomsday and save Metropolis. Also, Lex saving a child. Overall, this is a great comic.
For Flash, I like that Wally (who is with the JLU) told Irey that he split himself into two people and how he was able to do that with Inspector Pilgrim’s help, while the other Wally and his family were able to spend time with each other and have a vacation in Skartaris. Overall, this is a good comic.
For Power Girl, The only good things about this comic are Karen (and us) learning about Ejecta’s origin and that Symbio is alive. The rest is just Omen in a hospital, Karen telling Axel about what Symbio did to her back in 1978 (in the pre-Crisis Earth-Two continuity), and Natasha Irons and Traci Thirteen interacting with and almost kissing each other (which is fine, even though they should’ve stayed exes and friends who kept in touch in my opinion). Overall, this comic is weak.
For JLU, I like that we get to see every superhero be active to save the world from various threats after Absolute Power. I also like that we get to see Harold Jordan Airwave see all of the heroes working together and see all of the rooms the Watchtower has, including rooms for the JLA, JSA, Titans, Challengers of the Unknown, Superman Family, Atom Project, and others. I even like that Bruce and Jaime (after their interactions in the 2006 Blue Beetle run) worked together to deal with something, while Clark, Diana, Jefferson, Ace (since he’s not doing anything interesting in the Flash books), Carol (who’s new to becoming a superhero, even though she has been since Blackest Night in 2009), and Ronnie (after what happened in Lazarus Planet) dealt with a new villain group called the Inferno. I feel bad that, after working with the JLU, Harold (who might be working for the Inferno) had to be the one to kill them. Let’s hope that he’ll tell him the truth and why he had to do it in the next issue. Mark Waid and Dan Mora have done an excellent job of marking a new status quo for the JLU. This includes Mark Waid’s writing on the superheroes and Airwave and Dan Mora’s art (which is brilliant as always). Overall, this comic is great, off to a good start, and a way to celebrate the Justice League’s 65th anniversary! Also, JLU TV show homage on the intro page, which is epic and exciting (more if you imagine the JLU theme when reading this comic)!
For Nightwing, I like that Dick escaped from Spheric’s forces before he learned about the Helios Project (which was created by Spheric) and that he learned that the Teddies (who are allies with him) are a group of teens, causing him to avenge them and to strike vengeance on Spheric. Also, addressing Chemo destroying Blüdhaven. Overall, this comic is good.
For ASM, I like that Peter, with Strange and Felica’s help, was able to attempt and defeat the Scions of Cyttorack and be killed by them. Also, him eating Pizza with Norman Osborn (which is weird) and talking to his friends and Shay (in which his relationship with her won’t last). Overall, this is an alright comic.
For Spider-Boy, I like that we get to see the origins of Spider-Girl and how she was recruited by Bullseye (although I, and a lot of other people, prefer Mayday Parker as the true Spider-Girl) before they were about to have a tournament fight with Matt and Bailey. Also, Matt telling Bailey’s mom that he’s going to be okay and Hulkette cameo (teasing the upcoming New Champions book). Overall, this comic is fine.
For Grommets, I like that Rick was able to escape in a van while Brian stood up to Hector and told him to get out of his house before Rick and Brian were able to talk it out and reconciled and Brian told his grandfather that his grandmother died. Let’s hope the final issue will end on an interesting note. Overall, this comic is good.

Jason Aaron's turtle run is phenomenal. You may not like it, but you should still be recommending it. It's a high-quality book that is clearly made with love. Was the Last Ronin not depressing? I really don't see the issues here. To many people look at the turtles through the lenses of the goofy cartoon. They come from a dark depressing world.

Saturday Morning Adventures TMNT is doing fun Turtles from the 80’s. They need to give Burnham all the Ninja Turtles.

This is by far the best issue! This reminds me of old school TMNT.. the black and whites were more like this. The art and story were more like the OG stuff. I have to totally disagree with you guy on this. The best issue out of the other 3

Turtles hasn't been bad at all. Issue 1 & 4 were better than 2 &3. Do I love it? No, but it isn't terrible... yet

I feel like a lot of the complaints for this TMNT book are people not understanding storytelling? Like you’re supposed to breakdown characters to build them back up. This was the best issue yet in my opinion. Made me want to watch/root for Donatello to fight back and recover. TMNT being dark is great. I can’t stand when it takes a lighter tone in comics.

I find it ironic that these comments, one of the most depressing places on UA-cam, thanks to the constant negativity and over critical hysteria, complain about a comic being depressing.
Turtles has been dark since day 1. Staying true to the roots is the right approach, not pandering to casual Turtles readers whose main point of reference is the cartoon they watched as kids.
People also conflating ‘not what I wanted’ with bad writing. Grow the fk up.

Dude had to stop reading grommets cuz a gun got pulled out? 😂 This comic is aimed at adults bro maybe you shouldn’t review adult comics if you’re not a grown up yet. Give me a review of power puff girls I hear it’s good.
