Simple antenna switch

- From the savoir of ham radio, OH2FFY himself states:
QUOTE: On UA-cam there is a Basic Class Op from Canada.
He makes videos about the things that he does in his shack.
Occasionally he builds things and for the most part , it is just trash cobbled together.
His construction standards are VERY poor to say the least.
But he wasn't interested.
Of course it is just a matter of time before he blows the front end out of a connected receiver when he transmits with another radio connected through this switch box as it has poor isolation between the ports.
This means that antenna switch does not fully isolate other radios when they are switched out.
In turn that means that RF from the transmitter not only goes to the antenna , but also to the other connected radios.
This is NOT good. !
How does he respond when others offer him advice , or even hints that he has done something wrong ?
He gets abusive , rants , and deletes comments , only allowing comments which pat him on the back and say ''Well done - Nice work''.
The fact is , his work is TRASH , and he is so uneducated and ignorant that he doesn't even know it.
He takes EVERY comment that doesn't agree with him as being a personal insult , obviously (in his mind) due to his being a low level license holder.
The funny thing , is that he has been making this same trash for nearly 2 decades and STILL hasn't learned anything.
You may claim that Standards and Advanced Hams pick on your work or what you do , and you consider them to be assholes..... but the shoe also fits on the other foot , there are Basics , F's and Techs that are so up themselves that they can no longer see daylight.
When higher level Hams offer help , they just either ignore them , or get upset and play the victim. "UNQUOTE"

It's better to connect the switch contacts ( 2 layers) in parallel.. you can drive more power....
thanks for the help radionut i finally got one built
Awesome news.... just make sure to use it to switch antennas and not radios, may fry your other rig if you do.... i would get a commercially built switch for that purpose. :-)
This is what i was looking for...Thanks.
No problem, hope it works out for you. :-)
Nice one. Think I am going to build one for my SDR
If you got a junk box full of parts, why not give it a try. :-)
Nice project. Like you, I enjoy making do with what I already have. ~John/W5CYF
Yes sir.
Not everyone has the luxury of spending hundreds of dollars on department store pre-assembled bought and tested gear.. Besides, Where is the FUN in that!
The TRUE spirit of amateur radio is and always was to BUILD your own equipment! ;-)
Today's throw away amateur guys will never know the great feeling of building something yourself with PARTS and JUNK from your junk box! Guess we know where the old saying "parts from your junk box" come from. ;-)
"The TRUE spirit of amateur radio is and always was to BUILD your own equipment! ;-) "
100% This statement is the truth about what the hobby USED to be about! Now the corporate over-lords have almost ruined the DIY scene with cheap goods. Now-a-days people buy equipment more often than building it, and the end result is a less educated Ham. 73
AGREED 100%
Nice little project but too much excess talking. I converted an old PC data switch by removing all the connectors and adding SO239 connectors and 50 ohm COAX for my HF rig dipole antennas.
I did that once because i needed one for vhf, it did not work although the multimeter said so. and the chassis mounts so's did not work, since some were too short for the pl 259's. on vhf the match was bad. perhaps yours is better than i did, good vid
Well I have made something like that, for VHF and UHF, even in a plastic diy box 😁 And somehow it worked, with qrp TRX 😁 yeah, between switch and connections was coax. Maybe this thing helped a little. I didn't had ability to measure how much swr changes and etc... for now my HF is 100W (just TRX, no amp), VHF 50W, UHF 20W and also no amp
I have 2 homebrews of those. In my case I use one to switch between 2 longwire SWL antennas going to my SW receivers. Depending on the direction of the incoming signal a switch can at times make a dramatic difference. The other switch is used to switch one older RS mobile ctr loaded scanner antenna on my workplace roof to either a Grecom scanner or a FM car radio/speaker setup. Perhaps you would consider a vid of yours in action in the future.
tomorrow after work. ;-)
@@Radionut63 LOL Mick, tis true. Anyway Radio dude you might suck off all the solder from the contacts on switch and the coax collectors as the first step of construction.
If you call this constructive criticism, you SUCK at that!
Good idea but I do not know if the switch contacts are good enough.
I don;t either, perhaps i should just toss it in the garbage, what do you think? :-)
@@Radionut63 hahaha! hilarious reply. Hobbies Things
doesn't think your switch contacts are good enough. What does that even mean? The solder joints on the rotary switch are no good?
When in doubt Paint it Black❗🇺🇸
Yes for sure. :-)
@@Radionut63 hey could you do me wire digram and direction to build that i got all the parts so i can send u my email if you can do that for me plz and thank you if not thats ok
@@AndrewMurphy8383 Yes sir no problem! My email: vo1mds@hotmail.com
@@Radionut63 MINE IS VAPEANDREW @GMAIL .COM
I was try this diagram boss but swr no match...
This is a Receive only antenna switch, not transmit.
totally cool is there anything You Can not build have you ever tried to make a robot be so cool to have a robot key your mic for u lol
Once made but with disappointment loss of signal 73,
I still use this one from time to time.....may built another soon
Do you know any good Nufi jokes ?
Sure, i know a lot of main-lander jokes as well. LOL
