Sir David isn’t just a national treasure, but a treasure to all humanity. The other lovely thing is: I have many of those Folio Society books sitting on my shelves at home.
So happy to have been guided to this...here’s a man that I would want to sit with for an afternoon just chatting and listening! Someone who is really considering his answers, not blustering, just telling his truth in the moment. Very refreshing in this day of “I-know -everything” or the “I-don’t-need-know-nothing” folks out there. And, what a voice! Made me once again remember why I keep building my personal library during this electronic age of reading!
For the people trashing folios prices ,buy them second hand ,as mostly they are given as gifts and never read.i have collected for years this way ,they are wonders to behold ,and read ,this was a marvelous find folio, and attenbourgh ,nice to see Alfred Russell Wallace get a mention ,a much overlooked figure in evolutionary history.
Thank you for sharing this video, thereby giving us a privileged glimpse into Sir Attenborough's private litterary domain. His choice is bound to be a source of enlightenment, because he's a deep thinker and has always concerned about consequential issues. As with all the Greats, his modesty is disarming. By the way, thanks to this lovely vignette, I'm subscribed! Look forward to hearing from you soon. My respectful regards.
Sir. David Attenborough seems enthusiastic about books. That's nice to see :) I wonder if he has ever collected unabridged dictionaries? Dictionaries are fun to collect, because the spoken word is fascinating to see develop over a certain period of time. I own the following unabridged dictionaries: 1864, 1903, 1934 ,1943, 1956, 1966.
Dear Mr. Sir David Attenborough: I just like to express my heartfelt admiration and gratitude to you. I have been eagerly watching and enjoying your documentary videos since I was 10 years old. Your god’s giving unique style, body language and knowledge to showcasing various characteristics of animals, species and their roles in the mutual interconnection system is really remarkable. I believe you are one of those chosen to do so. As a Muslim, I strongly believe that ALLAH Almighty is the creator, the keeper of the whole universe and everything else it it. No other associates nor partners with him. Consequently, must be solely worshipped, feared and given all credit ,acknowledgment and gratitude. I know that you aren’t a religious man as you stated in one of your TV interviews, but in my opinion you don’t have to be a religious to give credit to God. Just let nature’s instincts kick. We all going to die sooner or later. As a Muslim, I believe in judgement day as well as the eternal life after death. (Another life). I also believe that we all going to meet God almighty individually and therefore we will be held accountable for our actions. And everyone will get a fair return for good or bad behaviors. In conclusion, I would like you put all our religion and cultural differences aside and think this matter over. What if I was telling you was true? And that you were convinced and embraced Islam, therefor you will be one those lucky survivors in the other eternal life. Now It’s up to you sir. Because I like you very much, I strongly feel obligated to inform you that. I wish you all the best. I will keep watching, enjoying your documentary videos no matter what your response is. Best regards. Youssif Jassim Saudi Arabia
True mankind dosent need to see wildlife, & Love is in the eyes of the beholder ! "Not Mankind" but he Can appreciate nature at no cost to him or her :)
Yes, all Folio books feature acid-free archival paper. They use different papers for their books, all very good quality. Folios also usually feature crisp, clear, and good-looking typesetting, so they're a pleasure to read.
Yes. Richard Dawkins (another British biologist) made up that word in the 1970s to describe how ideas, phrases, bits of culture either replicate or how they don't and that the process is similar to the natural selection that genes undergo. Think of a meme like Scumbag Steve. First there's Scumbag Steve himself and then the idea evolves and you can put the scumbag hat on top of the congress building or something to convey the idea. Certain aspects replicate and certain aspects fall by the wayside.
@hematophage3526 I mean compared to Folio Society, I think Birds Drawn for John Gould by Edward Lear is one of the finest books printed by any publisher. I find Easton press to be a little dull, but I still buy them and enjoy them
Will not Sir David call one of the prominent thinkers and friction writer of 20 th century Mrs .Virginia Woolf to his party. With her friends the Bloomsbury group and also her family.

Do you have luck with any particular websites, or do you mostly buy them at garage sales and the like?
@@bobthabuilda1525 You can find some in Amazon, but be sure they are "Used, Like New"
@@MPERTER Thank you
I picked up Primo Levi's 2 wonderful (if soul wrenching) books by Folio in immaculate condition on eBay. Always worth searching around
Lovely interview! Wish I had enough money to buy a copy of every book you guys publish!
Yeah - a complete Folio collection and a complete Criterion collection would make for a nice set of shelves!!!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful interview!
we love you David
One of my all time favourite people.

brilliant, foxe's book of martyrs is wonderful. i study the reformation and its a hugely influential and fascinating book
6:16 Is Attenborough referring to "The Malay Archipelago. The Land of the Orang-Utan, and the Bird of Paradise"?
Yes, I do believe so. Wallace never wrote a book called "Islands of the Eastern Archipelago".

Is having 2x copies of The Odyssey not overdoing it a bit?
Not in my opinion! It’s nice to have different translations, for one thing. And sometimes it’s nice to have a pretty edition.
Not at all. Some people will have even more

So why are these books better than Easton Press
Can't be bothered with Holy Writ...
Easton press has much nicer books
The Quality of Easton is very poor
@@danielstevens58 highly disagree
