    Hey Jeff,
    Even the cat disliked the fit of the fiberglass nose! It was funny as hell.

    Do all the urethane noses from NPD come with a Cat Scan?

  • @johnarmstrong5953
    @johnarmstrong5953 5 років тому +5

    So fiberglass $405, urethane $520 ($115 extra). But I would not be too happy about that dent. Could that be fixed with a heat gun?
    Also, I can't help but cringe at that polishing a dirty chrome piece demo. How about a scrub brush soap bath first.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому +1

      Yeah, I thought about that after Cam and I did it. But most of that stuff wouldn't come off with a scrub brush. The Chrome was clean (I had washed the opening a few weeks ago) accept under the plastic grille inserts. But we should have covered that.
      The dent...sadly is easily fixable. I really liked that the F100 dash pad came with stands to keep the back edge from getting warped...classy. OER should at least mark the box THIS END UP to keep the point...pointy.

    OK, the parts came from NPD but who made them? i've seen the same part [urethane] from Classic Industries fit noticeably better. . . . but like you said, who knows what is hiding under the paint

      Oh, there is a lot hiding under the paint.

    If you do away with the Z28, then you have to do away with the”stripes”!

    I don't think he's seeing the 1 inch gap on the bottom. The fiberglass is going to have to be cut in half horizontally. Then fit the upper and lower, put in the mounting screws. Then fill the gaps with fiberglass

    I see early 2nd gen Camaros all the time that are RS split bumpers that don't have the any nose front at all. Without this piece the front end of the split bumper Camaro doesn't look right.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  4 роки тому

      Agreed. The nose is part of the RS package. I am considering doing a video on what is part of the RS for these cars.

    Bondo + Poly/Urethane = Problems later on.... Been There,, Did That....
    You are correct,, Make the body fit the Urethane part... Will save you Headaches later on.....
    I Had an Uncle who worked in the service department for a Chevy Dealership back in the late '60's, early '70's.... He use to tell stories about Having to do work on Factory fresh Vehicles, Everything from Panel Gap alignment / tweaking,,, To some panels having to have Body and repaint work....Also there was the Occasional Missing, screw/bolt/nut/item that had to be addressed....He said that he'd even found Tools, Coins, and Trash in them from the production workers...lol
    The Factory workers/installers had little time to fiddle around with Fit and Finish...The line was constantly moving along at a steady pace, and they couldn't holdup the line... Because the next Vehicle in line was coming up for them to install it's new part.... It was/still is about cranking them out as fast as possible....

      Yep. In my '72 Mach I found three paper coffee cups (flat) two packs of cigarettes (Marlboro and Winston) and enough screws to redo the interior. Speed over perfection was the watch word...

    That “bump” from poor packaging is unacceptable! Does not reflect well on NPD.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому +2

      How is that NPD's fault? The nose is in a sealed OER box, NPD just shipped it out to us.

    I still don't understand, when these aftermarket companies have access to the original part why they can't make it fit like OEM or better. Is it a GM copyright issue? I don't have any aftermarket parts on my 70 Z28 and hope to hell I never need any. I'd first try and hunt down an original before going aftermarket. BTW, nice packaging dent 👍 . A monkey could do a better job. I would freak if that part arrived like that and would ship it back. Such carelessness. Someone really needs to be kicked in the nuts. 🥜

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому

      Funny thing is I think 90 percent of the issues on this part are the original beat up panels...The Urethane went on great. I feel most of it can be fixed with good alignment of the sheet metal. Keep in mind we didn't do any refitting, just slapped it up there. And original stuff often didn't fit well either--that is a lot to ask of tow separate pieces of sheet metal that are bolted to each other with a mouth bigger than a Politician...

      AutoRestoMod Car Restoration Modification I know the RS nose didn't fit well from the factory but look at the fit of the aftermarket dash. I've read on Nastyz28.com forum that it's pretty pathetic especially when these companies have the original right there to copy from. It's unacceptable.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому

      NPD actually redid the dash for the '70-78 dash pad and it fits beautifully. I will say that I'd like to see some of the companies "up their game". But the nose will fit pretty good once the sheet metal is made right.

    All I will say about fit and finish for this episode is this. Cam, loose the beard. That fiberglass piece would require less filler.
