    Great video Ed and Edwin! This is very informative for the consumer, however it is my hope that one day in the not too distant future these companies are required to use actual measurements for their ratings, not these made up numbers. Many people compare amps based on the ratings and some companies (Boss, HiFonics, Autotek, Power Acoustik - just to name a few) are misleading consumers. This is the main reason Ryan and I test amps on our channels. We want people to see the actual measurements. It should be noted, John Ivey (MTX and Atlas) is heading up a consortium to work toward confirmed ratings. Very exciting stuff!

    I drive by Incriminator's headquarters every time I travel to Florence, Alabama from Rogersville, Alabama! One of the major problems that keep these companies building and selling overrated cheap products is consumer willingness. If they continue to willingly purchase products that do not meet or exceed rated performance then they will keep manufacturing and selling these products in mass!
    There are no real US guidelines for product quality in car audio, there are only regulations related to safety from death or injury for consumer products and fcc requirements for radio interference!
    The only place left to turn to is the FTC and Bureau of Consumer Protection, however that would require documentation, evidence and testimony to force an investigation into companies/manufacturers! For them it would take quite a bit of effort to convince them something needs done, but the evidence is obviously there, we just need some dedicated individuals and pro-bono support from qualified individuals to start a movement! Contacting the CTA would be a major place to start for helping create and establish standards for car audio equipment ratings!
    It would also take some convincing of members of our government to try to create or establish guidelines which would obviously need to cover not just car amplifiers, but all equipment that has an amplified rating, everything from home audio, portable/personal electronics to every aspect of car audio to ensure proper consumer protection! CEA compliance is not a requirement by manufacturers it is simply an organization that puts forth guidelines for companies that wish to utilize their resources to help promote and protect their companies!
    I support you guys who run dyno tests and try to cover these issues, but social media is not the best place to make a case, we as consumers need you to collaborate and compile all the evidence you can and send your data and statistics to a place that will listen better than the consumer will, like the Consumer Technology Association, Bureau of Consumer Protection and your local congressional leaders! With your effort and dedication consumers could soon receive the protection and guidance you all try to provide with your information, evidence and opinions!

    Sweet upload!!
    I actually installed that crunch 4 channel in my wife’s budget build powering some alpine type e components and matching coax in the rear. Ran off a pioneer 1300nex. Amp and speakers were less than 100$ combined off sonic electronix, and deck was 220 on Amazon. Couldn’t stand when I was in the car with her listening to old stock stuff. So for under 300$ it’s a night and day difference. No where in the conversation of sq, but if you understand what you are getting with cheaper products and install them properly, they do have there place in the car audio world. That’s my 2 cents. Keep it up Ed!! Love your channel

    Good job on the videos. I have a question. Im running a relatively stock stereo in my 92 fullsize blazer. One Alpine CDE HD149BT. Two cerwin vega 6x9s and two kicker 6.5s, one cerwin vega stroker D2 15 with a lanzer 5000 watt amps 0 gauge power leads. My questions is about dirty power. I understand that the lanzer 5000 watt amp doesn’t put out 5000 watts but for my 1200 watt cerwin vega stroker, I thinks its enough, right? Can I damage the speaker by using a cheap amp. Im not sure that my speaker is actually seeing 1000 watts from that claimed 5000 watt lanzer.

    Ok. So I got two boss P156DVCs 15s and a boss PH5000D amp, and box for 80 dollars. 2500 watts on each sub and 5000 watts on the amp. Has 4 40 amp fuses on the amp, thought I was good to go. Car toy install. Aftermarket head unit. The piece of shit fried the subs in 30 mins. Also fried 2 different sets of DC subs before I got the DC 1.2k amp. So never ever get a cheap amp. Thought I could get away with it because of great success with Sony xplod amps in the past. Boy was I wrong, just wish I didnt waste so much money. Long story but even with my 2 DC lvl 2 12s, Quinn q602 door speakers and the DC amp it still sounds like shit.

    I've been using a skar skv2.2500 since July, and it's been performing very well.. I had been outta the bass game for a while.. it's a decent amplifier that does its rated power, and I believe it's a Korean board amp.. I paid 499 for it..
    The amplifier I want to buy now is the deaf bonce 4k, I also have a deaf bonce aak-200.4d 4ch and I love it so far, I would eventually think about going to a AB amp for mids & highs for a little better SQ.. although 4ch class d has came along ways and I love the size

    I was hustled by a stereo shop once, they sold me what looked like a nice chrome amp by the name "legacy", with 500x2 watts written on it, and they charged me about $150 USD, the freaken amp sounded like crap and seemed like it was 10 watts. I later googled that amp and was retailing for about $20. I never trustes stereo shops again nor the wattage written on amps. And not only that, the sound also sounds better on well known brands. I later noticed the difference after buying a 200 watt kenwood.

    We always explained to customer $79 1000 watt amp ....is rated at 1000 watts WLS (When Lightning Strikes) instead of RMS... back then you crack the case open and it would have a couple btl output chips like a head unit and a hunk of metal to add weight

    Many musical instrument amplifier manufacturers play rhe same game. Behringer, for instance, grossly overstates the actual power of their amps. I owned a Behringer 45 watt bass amp that could barely produce 20 watts before clipping, and a 60 watt guitar amp that was actually 25 watts before clipping. Trash.

    Nice video. I was wondering if you could do a video on recommended box thickness for no box vibration using baltic birch (not the cheap home depot stuff) and also mdf as it's most popular. Also where is safest spot to mount amps as my amp rack vibrates and can't be avoided. It is made of 2x4s and bolted through the trunk of car. I've still yet to solve this issue. 3k rms system using wolfram 3k amp at .67 ohm.

    I can recall crunch being a big thing. Where have they gone? Two of my friends had their amps in the late 90's. Both had to have been about 30"s long and i guess they never have been good at rating them because the "4000" was more powerful than the "6000" by far.

    When I got into car audio, amplifiers were over a dollar a watt. So they would inflate the rating, (not nearly as inflated as now) without the average consumer being able actually see what wattage they were actually getting.

    You need to take power factor of the inductive load you are testing on in order for your clamp readings to mean anything.

    • @SparkedEd
      @SparkedEd  5 років тому

      Yes, good point and exactly right. It's why I stated in the video, Phase and frequency should be taken into account, meaning phase of current to voltage, and that I do not have the proper test equipment to show a true test. I was merely showing examples of what voltage and current is measured, which does have meaning since one amp shows close measurements to what is rated and the other is less than 20% of what is rated. I hoped that it made the point I was stating.

    • @mattvanourney128
      @mattvanourney128 5 років тому

      ShowtimeSPL I understand what your saying. You could have just used a large resistor or bank of them as to not have any power factor correction.

      This question is off subject . You said in a different video that you ran ground wire to the amps instead of rounding them to the chassis. I've done the same from the batteries I have in front of my backseat I have a ground wire that goes to the amps in the trunk 2 a distribution block. But I have the battery is grounded to the front seat bolts. and a ground wire that continues up to the battery in the front under the hood which is connected to the chassis wall next to that battery also ground wire goes to the motor block choose the alternator chassis and to the sidewall chassis next to the alternator

    • @ikespeenan6970

      This is all ran with 2 ought welding cable for the positive and negative wires a two hundred amp alternator two group 31 Optima blue top batteries and another Duke cell 700 cold cranking amp 75 empower battery in the front. To run one Orion XTR 2500 DZ a older eclipse 200 by 4 Brewing nice silver amp I can't remember the exact model number and a Hertz 4-channel also it is I believe going about 70 watts per for channels with an audio control line driver Overdrive Plus sounds good works good it'll drop down to like 12. 1% just below Full Tilt it will stay in the 13s.

    What amplifier would you recommend?

    • @cekpi7
      @cekpi7 5 років тому

      That's a subwoofer for home audio, you are gonna have bad time finding something that can do more than 2kw on 4ohms. Home amplifier on the other hand can do stupid amounts of power at 4 ohms (you would have to run voice coils in parallel).

    • @K-Effect
      @K-Effect 5 років тому +1

      Cekpi7 I think I’m going to get a Orion hcca 5000.1D splx.

    • @cekpi7

    • @K-Effect
      @K-Effect 5 років тому

      Cekpi7 @4ohms bridged it’s rated 2120 watts. I sure that will be fine for me and from what I’ve seen those Orion amps are underrated.

    • @cekpi7
      @cekpi7 5 років тому

      @@K-Effect Hm, i can only find ratings for 5000.1D (i'm not sure if it's same as splx) and it's rated at 1900W so i might be wrong.
      It's more than enough for daily driver in my opinion but i usually like to run a bit more than rms power and dial gain down if needed. That way i would get clean signal even if i push my sub to max. 1 or 2 ohms is ideal for car sub, but if you are planning SQ setup that sub will be good in well designed enclosure and with good amplifier.

    I have an alpine 400 rms amp I got about 15 years ago and recently got back into car audio. The amp still works fine but I wanted a few things like a bass knob, non spade terminal connections and a smaller footprint. I went with a power acoustik rzr 2500 after seeing the budget gems or budget bust video. It came out to about 800 before clipping and for whatever reason it seems to sound a lot fuller. I’d like to be able to get a little louder but I’ve been happy and it pairs well with my ssa demon 12
