Good to see Gary H on drums, getting fed up watching Pete show off ;-). I just listened to 'Micro kid' and 'It's over' and it's sad we got older so quick. Young memories come flooding back and I realise how lucky we had it back then. Just starting to realise how important these songs are and how much they mean to me. Now using Sony headphones and hearing things I've not heard before. Amazing musicians; incredible. Have a look at the BBC Radio 2 cover they did, just lovely and technically bang on. ua-cam.com/video/uEaCJ5vV71o/v-deo.html
Actually, Mike himself didn't want to tour with the band at that time because he wanted to stay at home with his family, as well as working on his own solo projects. That's why they had Lyndon Connah (who you see here in this clip) filling in for him on keyboards and vocals between 2001 and 2005.
In that case, you may be interested to learn that 'Standing In The Light' has now just recently been reissued on gold vinyl to celebrate the album's 40th anniversary.
I always feel Level 42 kind of forked in the road midway through the 80's I think musically they were always very tight, very slick almost but the lyrics were often weak when they moved from more pop to love loss or something. The fun stuff Chinese Way, Micro Kid kind of worked well in my opinion. Children's say was very corny but Kansas City Milkman worked very well.
I totally agree. You don’t realise how unique his singing and playing style is until it’s missing. He’s essential to the Level 42 sound. The keyboards just sound bland here.
@@debschen72 I've got to admit that while Lyndon Connah is obviously a very good keyboard player, he really struggles with trying to replicate Mike Lindup's trademark falsetto vocals. I think that's the main reason why they had guitarist Nathan King (Mark's younger brother) helping him out vocally and also why that line-up never performed songs such as 'Starchild', on which Mike originally sang the lead vocals. As good as Lyndon Connah was at filling in for him, I'm really glad that Mike himself eventually returned in 2006.
I would think that must be the 'To Be With You Again' twelve inch single that you are talking about there. It was released in April 1987 and got to No10 in the UK charts.
Vlad - Have a good listen to this. Lyndon Connah never had Mike's vocal punch but he was able to produce & reproduce some wonderful keyboard sections - ua-cam.com/video/AfNTZV8bJH4/v-deo.html

Great performance, it feels odd without Mike but at least we have Mark and Gary. 😀👍
I agree YEAH THANKYOU!
@@PeterHotton No worries, Mike pretty much takes half of Level 42 so I’m glad he rejoined the band in 2006!! 😀👍
Level 42 ; the Real Fab 4....

Nice recording; sounds great. Great to see Gary on drums. Doesn't feel right without Mike Lindup though.

Love this version!
Very good the english
Standing in the Light was the first CD I ever bought. Love it so much. Octave divider here on the bass sounds ferocious!

Got it live at the Apollo
Same here. I've got both the CD/DVD and 2CD editions. A great show from a top 80s act.
Rigby and Bluey: *dances to this*
Sempre grandi !
E nemmeno poo.
These tracks are nothing without Mike Lindup

I just absolutely love it when TRUE fans comment...only TRUE fans can comprehend that. Thanks Matthias
nothing without Boon? RIP hope he's rocking in heaven.
Amazing version !
Awesome

Hay una versión en directo en una cara b de un 12". Buenísima me enganchó desde el primer día

Efectivamente a esa me refería. Gracias por recordármelo.

It's not the same without Lindup
Sorry, but this is prejudice IMO. Sounds quite the same to me.
I disagree, Vlad. Mike Lindup gave the high end of the vox that extra special umph.
As for it being "prejudice"... I call bollocks.

No vocoder scatting or solo. Hmm :(
