abso this was 1st song i heard of them, fought it was a black dance/soul type band from usa, cudnt b,lieve wen i saw mark king & mr mike (awes keys & voice) lindup, made sum cool dance tunes early 80s b4 they went commercialised vez band
Happy 63rd birthday to Mark King, Level 42 were on another level when they began, this reminds me of watching them as suppport act on a Wembley bill, their main man Mark King was a joy to watch on bass, the way he thumped, slapped & toyed with that guitar as if his life depended on it was brilliant
The first song they ever wrote, friggin' Beautiful... These lads even got it requested by Allan Holdsworth 🎸👽, during his brief stint with Level 42 in 1990 as a temporary guitarist... They had stopped performing it years before but Holdsworth wanted to enjoy it, so they rehearsed and performed it with The Master himself
Also Mr King's bass lines are actual riffs; most of his song compositions are multi-riff layered so all sound great & are melodic & compliment the vocal lines.... Alot of other slap bass players mostly noodle around and sound confusing to me (not all). ..Anyways, he was born to play bass .. he's got to be the best singing bass player in the world 😊
Very very special song from an absolute awesome band..... Their sound made those early 80's so good..... Memories of school journey trips, Pirate radio, JFM, RADIO HORIZON INVICTA... Secondary school Bluebird records 2000 ad comics Jazz funk.... Great times
Simply a delicious groove. Fell in love with this the first time I heard it. I often use Mark's opening riff as a warm-up exercise on my own bass. I've learned so much just watching Mark play.
Epic Phil's drumming on this track .love it and flying on the wings of love I got on 12 inch . That's when I knew level 42 was the nuts no a commercial band . At all then all changed for the charts. Such a great band . Phil left boon RIP xxx the level 42 continue. Like gary husband . Now pete . But all do a fab job xx
Mark Kings melodic finger style is so often overlooked and only his percussive slapping and popping is discussed in interviews by journalists. He is a fabulous player and a brilliant musician, thanks for posting this.
Fabulous. The way Mark is grooving under Lyndon's solo - honestly, fireworks could be going off everywhere else on that stage at that point and I wouldn't even notice them 😂
A9, G9, C9, F9, Bb9, Eb9, Db9, Gb9, B9, E9, back to A9. These are all 7th chords with no third and a 9th extension. Listen to the bass. 1, 5, 7, 9 is what Mark is playing.
I would happily go to a gig which gave us a 20 minute extended version of the last 2 minutes of this, my favourite ever track by L42. Such class. Mark's playing is sublime and great job by those guys who replaced Mike, Phil and Boon, they did a terrific job
Was there curtoisy of winning 2 tickets on capital gold, ironically the answer to the question was "Love Meeting Love" Great night met the band at the after party....England won the rugby World Cup earlier that day....L42 4ever since 1981 👍🏻
I’ve listened to this track countless times and it wasn’t until a few years ago it dawned on me what the change in rhythm and the sax are emulating which made it all the more intense . Such an excellent song which the guys wrote and composed when they were all still young in their years .
Люблю эту группу, было-бы круто если-бы они приехали в Россию, и дали пару концертов... Ждём новых супер хитов, именно от Вас, Марк Кинг... Желаю удачи!
@@peterjonesz agree; there's a live version of this with Kansas after Mike came back, unfortunately the mix does it no justice. The last 90 seconds of this track are a complete high point for me and the piano is integral to that. This guy did a great job
Just love this. It’s my fave Level 42 track.
Without doubt my favorite Level 42 song.

My favourite Level 42 song and my introduction to them. It blew me away. It still does.

The band was on fire that night. Me and my mates had front row tickets and got backstage after the gig!
Love this band 💕💕😍

Sean Freeman on Saxophone please! 👏👏
Great live version. 😍
Have to say he adds such a lot when he's on.
It is Sean Freeman
I know that. 😉
Sean is actually from Whitley Bay, which isn't that far from me. A great sax player.
Love this man ❤❤

I think JAMIROQUAI sampled this song in MUSIC OF THE MIND

Where’s Mike?
Mike rejoined Level 42 in 2006, what a joyful news that was!
This chaps doing a nice job on piano on this one

Excellent , except for the keyboard player , he went from demoing keyboards at toys r us , to playing with level 42.
He did a good job.
Lyndon pulled off that complex arrangement. He has played with several diff bands over the years inc Go West.
