It’s become a Habit, there’s different ways, well one way or another I think we already lead the league in overtime wins, Calgary was a team we needed to beat, thank you Gil !!!
We already lead the league in OT games and loser points. It has become a habit. Crazy how this team struggles to hold leads. Hope they're ready for Detroit. Thanks for the comment, Raymond. LGI
They will close with a win. In Detroit . George is looking good. I said it before he reminds me of Fox on rangers. Good skater .smooth. smart hockey sense. Future all star in my opinion
no way. fox won norris for his offensive ability. george has none. stay at home d man with good skating ability is it. and i saw london pull george out of games when more offense was needed so don't get carried away.
@@thormanismI'm not saying he wont be a good d man. but offense isn't his game. george is best paired with an offensive d man who he can cover for with his skating ability. second pair is his ceiling. may only be a third pair d man at best. dickinson an offensive force d man did the offensive work pairing with george in london.
That's more optimistic than most scouts, but I'd love to see it. Most scouts see him as a steady, stay at home defenseman, 2nd or 3rd pair type. I think he shows poise beyond his limited experience. Thanks for the comment, thormanism. LGI
I am going to take the optimists view. Happy that Engvall is starting to play well, I thought he scored a very nice goal last night with a fantastic toe-drag move past the Flames' defenseman . I wish Holmstrom could get more mustard on his shots, he needs to shoot the puck better. Super happy to have Romanov back. Varly played really well! Speedy recovery to Mike Reilly. LGI
I like the optimistic view. That goal was great. Holmstrom needs to lift the puck at times. His confidence is a big issue but I think he has more talent offensively than he's shown. Thanks for the comment, Darrell. LGI
Like the effort. Can't stay up for west coast games. Watch it the next day. The usual result but I'm not upset about it. I looked at the standings for the first time today.......I'm pleasantly surprised. Frenchy has 3g in 3 games!!!! Romanov was on point. So let's not flip so soon. Thoughts and prayers for Reilly. I hope everything works out there. LGI
Well said Joseph. Hope the team keeps on hanging in there till everyone is healthy. Reilly seems to be doing well post procedure. Let's hope the road back is without complications. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? The Islanders are 1 point away from a successful road trip. Even though they blew the lead and lost in a SO, they played Calgary tough. Alexander Romanov came back with a vengeance 8 hits. Simeon Varlamov was solid in the net, and Pierre Engvall scored for the 3rd time. The top 3 line members have at least one shot. The 4th line was shut out. The Islanders took one penalty, and it cost them. The PP is not good again. I can't wait for Barzy and the Duke to come back. Hero. Pierre Engvall and Simeyon Varlamov. 🐐, Scott Mayfield for taking that ill timed penalty. The Bridgeport Islanders had a decent weekend. HAPPY 🎂, TOM DRAPER. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
The Isles need to be better on special teams for sure or it will hurt them later in the season. I was so happy to see Romanov back and playing well. Rooting for a win Thursday to make the road trip successful. Thanks for the comment, Cindy. LGI.
Good morning team! Gil, this was a game that Varly could have used a bit more goal support. I believe they had some pretty good chances, but when the puck doesn't go in the net, it seems like your offense was flat. Varly played more than well enough to get this win. The untimely penalty and the PK giving up a goal doesn't help our cause. At least we got the point. The loser points are pretty sad sometimes, but they do add up. Last season we possibly don't make the playoffs without them. Everyone, have a great day! See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
They do add up, but imagine if the team won half of those games instead of getting one point. Special teams are really hurting the team. Varly was great and yes, he deserved better. Thanks for the comment, Tony. LGI
Same old isles. The 1-1-2 western canada/seattle trip with the loser pt. to finish it off vs. flames just as i predicted. 1. Isles are too offensively challenged that even a 1-0 lead isn't safe. One reason isles can't hold leads with a 27th ranked gf that can't score 3 or more consistently. And outshooting opponent means nothing when isles can't score enough g's. And when 18 scores isles only goal you have major problems. 2. And pk gave up the goal that tied that game-an area that just doesn't improve. Same old isles indeed. Now isles head to detroit to face a reeling wings team with a coach on the very hot seat. The same wings team isles lost to a month ago outshooting wings 28-10 only to lose 1-0. At least b's got the coach firing going giving the axe to montgomery.
It was a lot of the same old problems. That's because this is the same roster. At their best, this team is in the muddy middle. That's their ceiling. Until they retool or rebuild, which Lou won't do, it will remain their ceiling. The longer they wait to do it, the worse the long term outlook will get and we'll be faced with more years of really bad hockey. Thanks for the comment, Steven and LGI
Hi Gil! Geez the same scratch on the same record over and over and over again!! Teams enjoy playing us because they are almost guaranteed a collapse or a point!! Mayfield is like a Jeckle and Hide!! 🤮🤮George appears to be a stud. I mean yea we’re getting invaluable road points but can ya close out a game boys? Please!! Overall way better than expected when we heard all those injuries announced and the length of them! I find myself rooting so hard because they are playing on pure heart and effort. Our 4th line is abysmal. Need Matty to keep the peace but geez--Whally is literally “The invisible man” Take care Gil and ty for all you do my Isles friend. We’re on pace for 20 loser points. Yikes
Yeah, the 4th line needs to produce some offense. I don't expect 20 goals each but they're on pace for 3 each about now. The team needs to learn to hold a lead. It's frustrating. Thanks for the comment, Frankie and LGI
The Islanders need to be much more aggressive on the PK. They just fall into the box and sit there. They also allow the opposition to enter the zone way too easily. Perhaps a change in special teams coach is due. PP surely missing Barzal, but the rest of the team are also professionals, and need to find a way to enter the zone and stop making excuses that they don't have Barzal or Duclair... Heck...Engvall is quite capable of entering the zone with speed. Just my thoughts... Thx Gil.
Spot on mrjghoward. The PP entrance is a big problem and coaching should find a way to make it work. Waiting for guys to return is not the way to improve now. Thanks for the comment and LGI. Good insight.
Can't allow uncontested shots, those create dangerous scoring chances. It happens too often against this team. Thanks for the comment, kidnamedbarzalislanders21498. LGI
I know I am talking into a black hole ... BUT ... the team needs to throw all caution into the wind ... SHAKE UP the damn PP and PK play guys who never do it for pete's sake .. first .. FIRE THE darn Special Team Coaches .. C'MON!!!
They fired the PK coach last summer. The new one, Tommy Albelin, doesn't seem to have made much impact. They do need to make changes but none seem forthcoming. Thanks for the comment, gallegorider149. LGI
@@LockedOnIslanders While they may have fired one ... that doesn't preclude a house cleaning now ... because when it gets worse, obviously the change was not effective ... accountability ... it needs to exist. JMO
Gm Gil. another infuriating performance full of defensive breakdowns and a lack of effort. At no point did I believe the team was going to sin. That was sealed when a team with a worse powerplay looked like the best. There are just too many players on this team who don't deserve an NHL roster spot. As I've said before, 1 to 2 goals a game is not a foundation for a win. Roy is in a terrible spot. As for the injuries, the missing players don't account for a significant upgrade to the team. The team *must* convert on opportunities, such as Dobson hitting the crossbar, because they are going to fail otherwise.
There is no margin for error when you're not scoring goals. This team is in the muddy middle even when healthy. That will only change when they start to retool and trade away some players that Lou refuses to part with. Thanks for the comment, Eric. Spot on. LGI
