Wow! Awesome room, man. I can't believe that table was so cheap. I need to seriously look into that if I can find some space for one. Thanks for sharing.
Love it! I picked up an 8-ft conference room table, 5 captain's chairs and a dozen "waiting room" chairs for super cheap at an office liquidation auction. Hope your players are happy, too!
I saw your paint rack the other day and thought it would make a nice spice rack as well, and then promptly destroyed some of my spices last night with my current setup, so thank you for a future project. I also just painted my first minis which are still drying, so thank you for inspiration all around.
First off, awesome awesome table, and great workspace - I love how clean the room feels. I've been mulling over a table of my own and really like the deep player areas, as well as the lowered DM nook. The latter in particular inspired a feature I'll be adding to mine - a lowered area for players (to keep their visible areas tidy) but that's also connected to the game area, so they can roll dice like gladiators entering the arena. This way players roll publicly but get a similar feel to the GM, yet the GM can keep rolls hidden.
Major props!! Especially the table for the little one ill have to add in one for mine. Your video has brought up some more much needed motivation!! Gotta clean out and build up.
Awesome! And plus it's well ventilated, so all you need to do is open a window and pop-in a window fan, set it to suck out, and open one on the other side when working with the foam cutters.
That's a really nice setup. When I gamed (AD&D / mid 80s to late 90s?) we had a piece of plywood (cut down) with folding legs that was moved from one DMs house to another's.
I know its been a bit since you've made this video tour, but if you haven't replaced or refinished those chairs yet, I'd hold off. They look really nice, match the cabinets and the felt, and tie the room together. Fabulous room, dude.
Thanks Matt. The first session we had in the new room was in Dyrn where the party was trying to collect the bounty on Slimy Jack since they had his head in a bag of holding. Lots of fun city improv...the constable in Dyrn is a real weirdo, you don't wanna know... Next session they return to Sandwall thinking they can head home, but the village will be in chaos, freshly raided by Snowhide and his goons (that's what I made the bonfires in the vid for). I've really been stretching out your module man. Thanks for putting out all the great stuff.
That is SO cool to hear. You've really taken the module above and beyond. I love that. I envy your crafting ability, both with terrain and things like the table. I've been striving to get "handier" so I can do projects around the house. A game table is my ultimate goal.
Building stuff, be it terrain, a table, or a full house is just a series of steps. You learn little steps then big ones, just like DMing you learn through doing so get out that knife and glue gun! ...the little table is the table is the table of shame for players that decide to yell out "I roll a 17 sleight of hand!" Without saying why and without me prompting them to do so.
I already subbed when I saw someone reblog a video of yours online, but the potential of a video for how to make that gaming table would have earned a sub by itself. All your crafts are impressive, but that table takes the cake imo.
Your gaming room looks awesome. I am envious and love what you have done to the space. The shelving and cabinets are great. I really like the design of the gaming table. Well done.
Just a suggestion and don't know if you have done it already but a cool idea would be making a dice rolling place specifically for the players. A way you could do it would be to take a router and dig into the areas where the players sit and line it with felt.
Wow, top notch dude! And your table is amazing for something you just "threw together"!! I like the drop down section as that seems to be more player friendly than the raised platform. My only concern would be the players accidentally knocking over their drinks and turning the sunken area into pale ale lake!
Yea, I mean spillage is a risk at any table. I've got a shop vac close by if something really bad happened. The good thing is that the bottom of the lowered section is just a felt covered piece of mdc held in with a few screws so that it can be easily removed and replaced. I'm not too worried about terrain pieces getting wet and a spill situation since I coat everything in polyurethane. Fingers crossed we don't get spills though, the real risk is snack dust on the black felt, I see that becoming an annoyance. Im going to see how my players take up the space with their stuff, if I can fit it I'll add some drink holders, I just didn't want to accidentally not leave enough space for their junk.
hmmmm....good idea for sure, may have to do that. I really want to do a mini fog machine that has a tube piped into the game surface but I can't seem to find anything small enough (that isn't insanely expensive). Some people have suggesting making something out of a vape but I haven't found much usable info on how to do that.
+Black Magic Craft well plastic container, couple of computer fans, dry ice and water. Iv used an old plastic coffee container. Maxwell house to be specific . Rubber hose from auto zone. Just a suggestion.
I am proud of you. however I really hope those wychwood beers were never put in a fridge. i don't know if they've exported it but see if you can get your lips around Arrowwain. it has a chocolate malt taste. very nice. usually found in selection boxes. the brewery is just down the road from me. great gaming room too!
Incredible set up, man, and with some pieces that are inspiring for making the most out of my upcoming space. :) I can't wait to see your video on building the gaming table. I've started to do some research with my cousin on the topic. Looking to make it a summer project. Thank you for making videos that show how everything in our hobby is possible with the right amount of work. :)
My phone (which I use for actual filming/web cam for streaming) is held by that little bracket mounted to the bottom of my cabinets that you can see but I forgot to mention. But yea gotta get the mounting to that lamp arm for webcam sorted out, just don't have anything suitable on hand.
your gaming set up and crafting room is so awesome! i hope for more livestreams now that you have the room all finished! been jonesing for some black magic bro!
This would be cool to see you revisit - especially the crafting area, now that you have been working in it for a few years, what have you changed? What do you wish you had done differently?
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial - Looking forward to seeing it. I'm actually considering building a home and one of my questions is how much room to I need for a D&D/game room. Also craft room...
thanks, long time horror movie collector. used to have a small room dedicated to just my horror movie dvds in my old place, but didn't have a good space for that in new place and put all the movies into sleeves so 2000+ dvd all fit in a box.
WHAT! No GoldenAxe arcade machine, no fridge, no SKULLS and shit all over the furniture! DUDE! (just kidding, no not really, no actually, no, ok... nice job) :)
I think xmas tree lighting would be too chaotic to hide nicely. I think continuous led strip lighting is ideal, and what I would use if I didn't already have the ones I used.
This is absolutly incredible! this is a dream coming true seeing your gaming room o.O it's really fantastic and u made a amasing job, love the table that you built, super cool with the lowerd playing area aswell as hidden lighnting! :)
yea....the chairs were supposed to be temporary....but are still there.....buying 6 good computer chairs for your friends to sit in is pretty expensive.
Awesome videos man, I was wondering if you did a quick build for the fire pit in another video, I've been looking through your videos and can't seem to find it
Love the addition of the mini craft table for the little one! New game room kid ass man!!! Do you have a PDF of the table plan? I'd love to make one for my room eventually.
the room turned out nice. love the table too, trust me,you will love being able to leave shit set up. i laughed when you were talking about taking pictures of the board so you could set up the same scene next week, what a pain. also i got a facebook account so i could check out dms craft forums, those guys are making some amazing stuff.
I'm late to the game, but awesome table!!! I'm gonna have to file that away for future reference. I assume, since I see a small lip around the center opening, that you have an insert you can plunk in to make it a regular table?
You'd be right to assume that...however I never actually ended up making the insert because I ran out of time. It's something I will eventually do, but don't really need at the moment so I'm in now rush. I'm debating between wood slats or a clear acrylic or glass insert....I'm kind of leaning towards something clear so I can get the light coming through and use it as a dry erase board.
There are a million videos about woodworking already. This isnt really a complicated piece of fine furniture, grab some cheap pine boards and slap a table together. Done!
Whoah...awesome space! You do good work, dude! I am sooooo envious and your gaming group is extremely fortunate! Oh. Yeah. I think I hate you for being so talented. lol :p
Ha, we'll having these skills is the trade off for busting my ass as a contractor for a decade. My back and knees are shot but I can build a game room in a week :) Tell my players how lucky they are, one just last minute bailed on our first session in the new room :(
Did you change kind of tripod do you use? Thinking of making terrain videos, but I don't have a good way to film yet. But that lamp idea is pretty solid.
That is so awesome man :D One question though. Why paper minis? :P I mean, you got all these buildings, flora etc that looks amazing! I bet you could make some pretty awesome minis ^^
I answer that question in detail here: ua-cam.com/video/rX-LPXtKHiw/v-deo.html Although, I have started a proper mini collection now with the help of a kind strangers mini donation: ua-cam.com/video/WyLscBJkNbg/v-deo.html
Oh my god, exactly my question xD Sorry i hadn't checked them out, i am new to the channel :) Dude, Nathan is the man, that collection is awesome :o Have you thought of recording/uploading game sessions with friends etc? :D (if they are down with it ofc :P)
I don't think that will ever happen, games are private and filming and editing two 5 hour sessions a month is something I don't have time for....however I just recorded my first DM Diary wherein I recap my last session and talk about how I used my terrain for it. It will be a new series to hopefully satisfy the people wanting to see my games.
I'm assuming you mean the old table lamp armature he said he was going to use for a webcam, in which case you could probably convert it to a miniature holder with some work though I'm not sure how practical it would be. It seems to me that it would feel weird to not be holding what you're painting, even in one hand; I don't about anybody else, but I'm sure that would definitely mess with me to the point where I don't think I could paint with a miniature being held by something other than me.
Thanks for showing this awesome room. After a little while, how do you like the size of your table and would you make changes to it now? Is it just the right size, to small, more " people " room or is it perfect? Going to start building a room of my own. Thanks.
Where did you get your paper minis from ? I rarely see people use those....but I like em. I'm gonna digest your crafting channel stuff all this next week or two. Thanks for the tour of you grand DM space.....and thanks for the inspiration.
I find it odd that this question is asked so many times. I don't get them from anywhere, I make them. It is very simple. Find the art you want online, scale it in photoshop or similar program, print them out.
Thank you. I found what I needed from one of Wyloch's videos. I'm great with tools...but not with computing software and such....but I'm a fast learner.
Wow! Awesome room, man. I can't believe that table was so cheap. I need to seriously look into that if I can find some space for one. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Nate!
That is a sweet room. I'd love to see a tutorial for that table, especially setting up the lights. Great job!
One thing that has impressed me since seeing your first video, you have a superior sense of order and cleanliness. It's refreshing.
Love it! I picked up an 8-ft conference room table, 5 captain's chairs and a dozen "waiting room" chairs for super cheap at an office liquidation auction. Hope your players are happy, too!
The stuff of dreams. One day I'd like to have a dedicated game room as nice as this!

Glad to find this channel. With you and DM Scotty....I'm so stoked. Now to clear out my spare room and begin some remodeling myself.
Do it!
I use quite a bit of paper mini's as well. Your bases look killer.
thanks man. I
Paper minis are more awesome and cheaper to create than those pre painted plastic figurines that are expensive
Major props!! Especially the table for the little one ill have to add in one for mine. Your video has brought up some more much needed motivation!! Gotta clean out and build up.
I'm jealous. That is all sir.
hehe
I’m so jealous, on behalf of my boyfriend! Totally want to get a set up like this for him!
Turned out fantastic. What a great place to craft & play
Yup many memories will be made here :)
Awesome! And plus it's well ventilated, so all you need to do is open a window and pop-in a window fan, set it to suck out, and open one on the other side when working with the foam cutters.
Yea, there are 4 windows that open making it easy to air out.
That's a really nice setup. When I gamed (AD&D / mid 80s to late 90s?) we had a piece of plywood (cut down) with folding legs that was moved from one DMs house to another's.

I have no problem with how they look to be honest....it's more the comfort. I'd like to give them more padding, they are tired.
KILLER game room, man.

It's adorable you made a crafting area for your daughter.

That room is epic! Great job! I'm looking forward to the video of the gaming table.
It's such a simple build I think anyone with basic mechanical skills can pull it off.
Did you end up making a video of making the table?
It is an awesome table and I would love to make something similar!!!
Now he did
Id love to see you rebuild your game table. It would be awesome to see an improved design, maybe even a set of plans?
epic man. I too suffer from having in a messy Terrain workshop room, and thus inspired me to stop being lazy and beef it up!
well done man!
get er done!
Your M1a are correctly positioned, that deserves a thumbs up.

Love all your stuff man (the videos and the work within them)
We need an updated room tour/overview video :) thank you for all the amazing content

Thanks Kev, wish I could have you over.
That would be awesome. If I am taking a trip to Canada in the future, I will let you know, my friend.
That's a killer setup, dude! Tons of fun will be had in that space!
Me and my group are loving it!
I've got some game/craft room envy. Amazing, simply amazing.
Thanks man hope it gives you some ideas for your own space (if you have one). It was all done for a very small budget.

btw how about videoing your games now that you got the set up?
I agree with hankerin, it kills the mojo and is only entertaining when it's not a "real" game.
Your amazing room showcases your talents, skills and attention...hold on...another nerdgasm...to detail.
hehe, thanks man :)
Oh you need some black lights in the table and dabble with florescent paint. Good job my friend on the room and table.
hmmmm....good idea for sure, may have to do that. I really want to do a mini fog machine that has a tube piped into the game surface but I can't seem to find anything small enough (that isn't insanely expensive). +Black Magic Craft well plastic container, couple of computer fans, dry ice and water. Iv used an old plastic coffee container. Maxwell house to be specific . Rubber hose from auto zone. Just a suggestion.
I was hoping for a fog juice rather than dry ice build if possible.

great gaming room too!
We get a regular supply of most of their beers here, and I have had the arrowwain many times, it is my favourite of theirs as I am a stout/porter guy.
Dang that Dracula Poster is great! I think I still have that DVD.
Incredible set up, man, and with some pieces that are inspiring for making the most out of my upcoming space. :)

building or making anything is just a series of small steps
Very nice, gorgeous cabinets! Working some remodeling myself.. tis the season I guess ;)
Thanks man. Summer is harder to get the group together so easier to squeeze in this project.
Hard work pays off. Really cool gaming room man! I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
Wythwood Brewery! Good man. If you're ever in the UK, check go to the tour!
I'd love to
I use the exact same bracket to hold my camera, aka my cell phone. I mounted the business end of a selfie stick onto it. it fit perfectly.
My phone (which I use for actual filming/web cam for streaming) is held by that little bracket mounted to the bottom of my cabinets that you can see but I forgot to mention. But yea gotta get the mounting to that lamp arm for webcam sorted out, just don't have anything suitable on hand.
+Black Magic Craft jb weld a a mount on it.
So, I found your channel just from the thumbnail after watching one of Mel's videos... Love that space, man... freaking excellent,

craft with ya soon, bud!
I know im excited to see what you give us now....good looking room man.

I envy your creativity, but most of all, your organization!
To be fair it doesn't stay this organized, I try, but it usualy looks like a bomb went off at least once a week.
awesome, looks great. Ive got a suggestion for the next guy who builds a table. Use xmss tree lights for the lighting.
I think xmas tree lighting would be too chaotic to hide nicely. I think continuous led strip lighting is ideal, and what I would use if I didn't already have the ones I used.

The bonfire is a very cool touch.
thanks
nice work, great stuff, what's the book with the skull on it? reminds me what the cyrinishad did look like...
Nice space...You might want to throw down an area rug as it's super echoey space.
This is an old vid I use a lav mic now so it's not an issue.
What brand were the bookshelves with the mini's on them? I didn't hear you say and don't see it in the comments.
