I was so happy to see this video, lol. Excellent top 5. Koontz really does write villains/psychopaths like no one else! Intensity is one of my all time favorite books.

I loved Dean Koontz when I was a teen in the 90’s. You’re so right that his books are “easy to read”. I go back to them from time to time. Like now, I’m preparing for a two month stay in the mountains, thinking of bringing a few of Dean’s stories to read. I still have so many of the books from my youth. They’re compact. We have the same number one pick. Darkfall was really creepy to 13 year old me. Some other faves I can recall are Midnight, The Voice of the Night, and Watchers.

@@heatherruiz9490 Demon Seed is great because it packs quite a punch for being such a short book. I found it genuinely creepy. For some reason I didn’t like watchers as much as everyone else, I’m not sure why… maybe it was a bit long for me, I’m not sure. I read it a few years ago.

Great video man! I love the smile on your face when you talk books! 😀 Dean Koontz is a mix bag for me but has still written some gems. WOW, I have just spoken about Intensity and you have given me some new insights into the book. I did not know that about his father! Of these 5, I have only read Demon Seed, and that was long ago. I have a few of his books on my shelf to get to "one of these days". I wonder if one of the reasons he doesn't seem to garner respect in some circles is that he is so prolific, it makes people question the quality of books which seem to be cranked out non-stop. When you put out that much stuff, there are bound to be a few "duds" At any rate, I always enjoy watching your reviews when you are stoked about the topic! Take care, man!

Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors as well. I first got into his books when I was in high school years ago. It was “Dragon Tears” and it was a bizarre read! “Door to December” is a favorite of mine and it is a gripping, sitting-on-the-edge read! “Phantoms” is one of the most scariest things I’ve ever read and reading it at night really enhances the scare factor! The only book I’ve read that was in your top 5 was “Demon Seed” and I was surprised to see that it’s one of your top 5 because I hated it! LOL. I grew up reading a lot of Dean Koontz when I was younger (my mother was a massive fan and introduced him to me). My favorites that you didn't mention are Twilight Eyes, Hideaway, Phantoms, and The Bad Place. An interesting one for me is Strangers. It took me like five or six tries before I was finally able to finish it. The first half or so was so difficult to get through, but once it finally clicked I loved it and blew through it in a single sitting.
The one that messed me up the most as a kid was Night Chills. The concept of that story really screwed with my head, and the scene with the mother and son is one that still sticks with me decades later. Then again, I was 12 at the time and I have not read it as an adult, so I don't know what I would think about it now.

Great concepts and keep you wanting to know what's going to happen next!! Of his more recent stuff I found Ashley Bell a great concept and really interesting story. Not sure if you realise he's got about 20 books from the late 60s/early 70s that are out of print and very hard to find. Pretty trashy science fiction that he has pretty much disowned but a good Ebay challenge if you feel like collecting. For something a little different he has a 12 story series called Nameless that are an Amazon Kindle exclusive. They are really cool and each one can be read in one sitting. A great series with a really interesting conclusion.
