First, I apologize I thought I was already Sub’d but now I am! Second love this segment of Book vs Movie 📖🎥 and JAWS is definitely one of my all time favorites. I love when people take the time to really compare and contrast. Great details. Can’t wait to see more of these.
I enjoyed the video!! I read the book when I was a teenager and have never felt like revisiting it since. I watch the movie every few years though. The shark effects have never bothered me, the level of craftsmanship in all other aspects of the film totally make up for them. The movie was actually PG at the time because PG-13 didn't exist yet, which makes it even more astounding. The severed head jump scare alone would push it to PG-13 at least.
@@EdwardLorn So...? I'd like to see what you think of the adaption. The story is good but Hitchcock adds alot. Rebecca is another one he did a great job with, though I still like the book better. Psycho the film is leagues better than the book! You could do a threefer
I agree with every point you made. The cheating was awkward and unnecessary and was an easy deletion from the script for the movie. I didn't like any of the characters in the book (except Quint, who I didn't have a particular feeling about one way or the other) because of the shadow cast by the cheating and the way it changed their behaviour. I was an adult when I first watched the movie (so it didn't particularly disturb me) and before watching it to coincide with reading the book I had seen a documentary about the making of the movie with lots of behind the scenes information about how difficult the shark was to manage, so when I went to watch it after reading the book the main emotion the shark scenes made me feel was humour. Especially the opening scene with the young girl going swimming in the dark and being dragged back and forth through the water, I actually laughed out loud at that. I mentioned the PG-13 rating to my mum and she said that when it was released here that it was definitely rated R. I vote for The Witches of Eastwick because I've seen the movie, don't know the Palahniuk story. Trying to think of other horror/action books that became movies that you could review, but either none are coming to mind that haven't already been mentioned - The Godfather and American Psycho - or they became books after they were movies - Terminator and Alien.
@@EdwardLorn Distraction is one half of my treatment regime, so anything that distracts me from thinking about the impending trip is a good thing. Even 'arguing' with Bill was good as I was too busy coming up with smart comebacks to dwell on Jan 28.
@@EdwardLorn Well then I suggest one of the Terminator novelisations by Randall Frakes. I've read the second one and thought it was really good, very similar to the movie.
I’ve just read Jaws for the first time... Thought it was Crap! The movie is great, I’ve watched it a number of times but the book just doesn’t live up to it. I’d recommend to anyone to watch the movie & ignore the book.
Oh dang, those are both great choices...I would probably say Witches of Eastwick. I love a good witch. As for Jaws, it was one of those films that scared the ever living daylights out of me as a kid, and because it's such an icon I've always avoided the book because I was concerned it might fall flat.
Went and seen Jaws about a year and half after release and it was scary (when the head bobs out of the opening in that boat hull, wow); in 2001 I took my son to Universal Studios: the Jaws and King Kong rides were dated. The Terimantor show was awesome, we watched it 4 times together, my family left me when I went in a fifth time. Also, the 'Men in Black Ride' was really good. Never read Benchley's 'Jaws' and had the paperback forever. However, Paddy Chayefsky's 'Altered States' verses the movie would make a great vid. Thanks for the BvM E. Updike's 'The Witches of Eastwick' has my vote.
I have seen the film and read the book and even though I enjoyed both I do think the film is better. And yeah, I don't have a problem with the shark effects either. It looks fine to me. I know nothing about Choke so I would choose Witches of Eastwick cause I love that film. :)
I never saw the movie growing up so I read the book in 2017 and then watched it. I found the book pretty meh but I loved the movie! Anytime I say I liked the movie more I feel like a bad bookworm lol
Great video man I love book vs movie videos btw thanks for checking out my video my phone is messed up I can't upload right now by I'm getting a laptop so I just got to get my UA-cam password and I'll be up again
13:05 Rob Schneider? Roy Scheider. Lol.
Rob Reiner, Roy Scribner, Boy Reigner...
@@EdwardLorn Great review I just thought that was funny. My wife is terrible with names too.
I went through that jaws thing at Universal Studios when I was 6. 18 years ago.
Might I suggest A Clockwork Orange...? 😃
Might I suggest you STFU? 😀😀😀

Thanks for watching, Kami! 😁
Roy Scheider (The French Connection) is NOT Rob Schneider (Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo).
Lol I know. I just got them confused.
@@EdwardLorn Well, they are kind of similar... ; )
I vote for Choke.
I recently listened to the audio book for jaws and I have to say that I liked the movie better. But I did like how the shark got a POV in the book.
That was cool. I'd forgotten all about that. It's how the book starts!
Oh you should do the Witches of Eastwick. I personally haven't read it.
Hey you finally found the Eastwick cover that you've been looking for. Congrats
This isn't exactly the one, but it's close enough. My friend Jen Bernardini sent me this and I bought her the book 😁

Cool, thanks for the info!
Can you do a Jaws 2 book v movie
Eventually...?
How about Rear Window? It's one of the few where I like the movie better
Never read the book but that's one of my favorite films.

Quint's story about the Indianapolis is true, but was added by John Milius when he did an uncredited rewrite of the screenplay.
Great vid.
And Witches of Eastwick, bitte schoen.
The Indianapolis is my favorite scene also, BTW The Indianapolis is a true story. Robert Shaw did a great job with that role. 🚢
Awesome. I had no idea. Thanks for the info!
I was wondering if you could compare the Godfather? Well if thats your cup of tea off course
I've tried reading that book four times and could never get into but if I come across another copy cheap I'd try again.
@@EdwardLorn thanks
@@EdwardLorn Sorry to Bother You but could you review American Psycho. I Know I Bug. LOL
Enjoyed that. Very good. American Psycho on the horizon at any point?
Few episodes yet, but yes.
Edward Lorn nice one, cheers!

I am not above trying novelizations as a Movie v. Book test run 😁
By the way, streaming in about ten minutes.
@@EdwardLorn Ooh, thanks! Watching and waiting.

Saw Jaws with my father this past summer in an old theatre that always has old classic films playing. It was a lot of fun!

The movie's definitely the winner in my book, but a mile.
I still have to read Jaws, but it’s on my TBR. Also, I have never read anything by Chuck Palahniuk, so The Witches of Eastwick it is 😄
WITCHES OF EASTWICK is winning by a country mile so far lol

Off the subject but have you read anything by Taylor Brown? Thinking of cracking open The River of Kings.
I haven't. Not sure I've ever heard of them.
