Rob had opera training in college, Austin has a degree in musical theater with a bit of opera thrown in. Austin talked Rob into doing this to show off Rob’s “hidden talent”. Rob wouldn’t do it without Austin singing with him. Nice surprise, huh? Shocked everyone! They said “one and done” tho’! They are awesome!

Take your point but I'm not so sure we haven't heard that Italianate dropped larynx before. Rob was using it in his solos in the Sea Shanty Medley. (It comes out again in the latest, Skull and Bones). If Austin sounds like Austin, it's because he is always fabulous! I've noticed that reactors get the goosebumps from Austin, doing what a bright-toned lyric tenor does.

WOW, THANKS JAMEL! At 62, I'm not particularly up on current music, ask me anything about the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and I've likely at least heard it. I'm always up for something new, and great as there's so few today who can "Light My Fire" so to speak, but these guys have me flamin hot! Wow, what a great performance, and I now have two more singers to follow, not to mention Homefree! Thanks again! 👍😎✌🗽

Home Free is a awesome acapella group, so good that you may have to remind yourself that there are no instruments. Since you said something about the 70’s - listen to their covers of Listen to The Music, American Pie (with Don McClean), and Seven Bridges Road. Of course, you didn’t say what kind of music that you prefer, so hopefully those will appeal to you.

I have listened to Homefree, and will binge watch some of their songs later. 👍😎✌🗽

Jamal, I know you have reacted to all kinds of artists and genres on your channel and I know you have your favorite bands of all time and Home Free was not in your top 10 list which is fine. But I got a sense this is one of the most surprising performances you have seen and the realization that not too many artists could pull something like this off. I believe each of the guys in Home Free are as talented as any of the top famous male solo singers and bands we have known over the past 70 years that we are all familiar with, and they are all in one single group. Imo, that makes them one of the best vocal groups of all time simply because they do not need musical instruments to accompany them.

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 Рік тому

I take your point but the fact that they are an a capella band is not what makes them great. After all, some of their most successful recordings have instruments (Save the World, Dreamer with Texas Hill, Born in the USA). It is the fact that almost by accident they have arrived at a point where four exceptional voices and a brilliant producer mesh together perfectly, not forgetting the amazing Adam Rupp.

Singing training is much the same, whichever genre you end up singing in. Austin was trained from about age 15 (?) and all the way through college. The tutors there wanted him to continue and do opera (probably knowing that a really good lyric tenor is worth his weight in gold to opera houses) but he decided not to. The difference in their voices is not so much down to training as to physiology. Jen Glatzhofer in her reaction to this gives an excellent explanation of the physical factors involved.

I'm not a big opera fan at all, but I love this aria, it's so beautiful. And Rob was A-MAZING. He actually has opera training from his college years, but hasn't sung it since (15 years). Opera is not something anyone can just get up and do right, it takes years of training. Opera singer and music reactor Maggie Renee said that Rob's performance was nearly perfect, and an Italian voice coach said that she forgot he and Austin weren't Italian because their pronunciation was so good, especially Rob's. Austin is not an opera singer, but his music theater training came though and he did a great "crossover."

His voice is just magical and so rich Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. He will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers 5 times and more in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..

Sadly they have said that they won't be repeating the experience. It needed a lot of preparation (not least by Sebastien Douyon, who arranged and produced) and rehearsal.

this is the aria from Puccini's opera......all the great and near great operatic vocalists have sung this.......Pavarotti's (R.I.P.) performance is condidered the 'gold standard' by many.......originally written for one tenor voice.......Nessun Dorma='no one is sleeping'.......

I am spoiled by Metropolitan Opera Saturday Matinee radio shows, but that was decent.
Country Music does have a history with Opera, see: "Perhaps Love" by John Denver with Placido Domingo

I know this is a different direction from this but I would like you to review a Gino Vanelli song called Brother To Brother, the live version, I am sure you will love this song and its orchestration. Cheers, Manny

I agree that this performance was wonderful, especially considering their main musical background, but there's so much more to opera than 'Nessun dorma'. Everybody and his brother reacts to that aria, especially Pavarotti's rendition. I'd like to make a few other suggestions:
'Der Holle Rache' (The Wrath of Hell) from 'The Magic Flute (Die Zauberfloete)', sung by Lucia Poppl I couldn't find a live performance, but she's my all-time favorite Queen of the Night. ua-cam.com/video/pDUyA-fVie8/v-deo.html
'A un dottore della mia sorte' (To a doctor of my standing) from 'The Barber of Seville' The actual aria starts at 2;10. ua-cam.com/video/yI4Gju08XjU/v-deo.html
'Largo al factotum' (Figaro introduces himself) from 'The Barber of Seville'. The actual aria starts at :50. ua-cam.com/video/yI4Gju08XjU/v-deo.html
    And there's so much more.
I would suggest familiarizing yourself with the words and context of the arias before you watch.
    I hope you enjoy them!

I don't think any more classical music is in the works. Austin and Rob have said that preparing for this video required vocal work that doesn't lend itself to anything else they do.
