If we all loved the same books the library hold lists would be endless lol💕📚
Haha. I love that perspective!
Bummer that you didn't enjoy these more. What heart-breaking reads! Fingers crossed that next week brings some favorites!
Yeah. These were not what I was expecting at the beginning. But that's the "fun" of reading sometimes!
Great video! I am going to try Foster. Sorry you had to struggle thru the other!
Foster is definitely worth a try. Hope you enjoy it.
Truth can be brutal. I read this book a few years ago, and I have never forgotten this telling.
It wasn't the brutal parts that kept me from enjoying the book.
I have to watch the other battle of the BookTuber rounds-such a cool concept. Oof power of one was a doozy. 🫣
I thank you for your service 👀🤣🤣. I’m excited for the next one!
Sorry to hear you had a two star- but at least you’re having fun with the journey!
Yeah, it was a disappointment since it's so well loved and seemed like a book I would like. Oh well.
I watched this last night and this morning listened to Foster on Audible. I loved it, except for the ending. I googled the meaning behind it and found a comment by the author on how she could have worded it differently. But I still found it a lovely book!
I haven't read either of these and based on your experience, I will not be picking them up, either! I hope the rest of your recommended books go better.
I don't blame you. There are too many other good books to read!
Foster is so beatiful
Glad you enjoyed it.
I really appreciate your honesty and fair-mindedness in these reviews. I just looked it up and it's interesting that The Power of One was published in 1989--before Apartheid was even repealed! Looking forward to the other two recommendation videos and the whole Battle. Book recommendation is tough for me. We are all so different and our tastes are so unpredictable! - Shannon :)
I agree. Everyone's tastes are so different! It will be fun to see how this battle ends! I'm hopeful that the other ladies will like my recs. We'll see.
"Too much of cactus growth" 🤣 Yayy for battle of the BookTubers. 😊💙
Haha. I love participating in this! Can't wait to see our results as the weeks progress!
Krista, this sounds like a grueling reading task. I cannot tolerate cruelty to children. I watched a movie about a 1 room school house for students of all ages. I asked why we didn’t still go to the same school and one of my Grandmother’s friends heard me. She lowered her voice and said “I wouldn’t let those older boys anywhere near our small ones.” Of course, she didn’t realize that I heard her. I had no idea what she meant. Now I assume it was cruelty like you described from your book. But I did grow up thinking high school boys were all very mean. That was about 1960…a very different time. My respect to you for reading these. I’m going to pick up a lovely cozy romance and get this bad taste out of my brain. I certainly appreciate you too! One more thing. Our foster system is badly broken. Lucky children get placed with wonderful foster parents. I wish they were all wonderful foster parents.
I totally agree that our foster care system needs a total overhaul. I don't know the answers, but I know how it is now isn't great at all. Very sad.
This was a roller coaster!
Haha. For me too! I had such high hopes.
I loved Foster so much.
It packed a punch for a small little book. I got lost in the writing a bit though.
it's so hard when a good recommendation doesn't work for some reason!
Right! Such a disappointment.
❤📚📚❤️
Bummer. I've not read these and will probably pass. Thanks for your review.
No worries. I wouldn't really recommend either of these. Was good to read them though!
I love Claire Keegan’s writing, but it is very much literary fiction. Yeah, I can’t read about little kids getting bullied and abused.
It was a little too literary for me. But better than Power of One.
I saw The Power of One in high school! Wow! i had no idea that was a book. I think we saw that movie i my Social Justice class. I may have to look into this book. As soon as you said PK, I remembered the movie.
I didn't know it has a movie adaptation!
FYI- The Marlow Murder Club that you had in another video is part of a 4 book series. It is also going to be a series on Masterpiece Theater on PBS at the end of October. I have to get going reading the first book because as we all know the book is always better than the TV show or movie. 😀
I want to read Foster! The Power of One doesn't sound like something i would enjoy, although it's an important story.
I was quite bummed about Power of One.
This is why i don't do challenges or readathons. I just wanna relax and read what i want😂Sorry these weren't for you. They sound awful, like depressing. Def not for me. Fun video though and love your honesty! I love combat fighting but i enjoy when they take the high road and do what's right. Maybe one good punch, teach the bully a lesson, but show mercy and show you're different than they are and better than that
Yeah, on paper these both sound like books I"d love, so it was a bit disappointing overall.
I don’t cry when reading books but I did with Foster.
I was expecting to cry, but didn't. I do cry in books normally.
The Power of One, I haven't read the book but I like the movie
I didn't know it was a movie until reading these comments! Maybe I'll watch it. Might like it better. haha.
My daughter gave me Foster. Liked it. But, I like anything Ireland.
I wanted to like it more than I did.
Was The Power of One a movie? It sounds familiar, with the boxing.
Yes! I saw the movie in high school in my Social Justice class.
I just learned it was a movie too. Came out in the 90s.
A fun idea❤
I can't take credit. I'm just thrilled to participate!
What difficult reads this time.
Yeah. I was kind of bummed.
Awww bummer! But I can understand why you didn’t like these.
Yeah. I was bummed for sure.
To heavy for October.. Pretty Autumn books would b better just saying..Take care.😅
Haha. I agree, but had to read my recommendations for this competition!
wow.. I can't speed up anything more than 1.25. I often use 1.10. I must process slow....
I think I have trained my ears over the last couple years. It does depend on the narrator.
I would not read The Power Of One. I do NOT read books where children are abused
I hear you. It's good to know that about your self. Avoid Power of One.
