Sally's in the box!! 😂 Poor Book Man he can't get a word in edgewise! Loving the colorful thumbnail ❤ Also, CONGRATS, you totally deserve to win, not only are you fantastic with analyzing and talking about books (which is not all that easy) you have shown us little bits of your writing over the years and it's really good! Your dedication, passion for books, and hard work have truly paid off, and it's heartwarming to see you being recognized for all that you do. I'm so proud of you! And how flippin' exciting a house search. I adore old homes with character-the charm, the history, and all the unique details they carry (sign me up for a victorian). I can't wait to hear about the wonderful place you’ll find. OH AND Screw these people changing the dang rules after the fact of applying, little weasely (AND Not the Harry Potter kind)! yeah playing with people's emotions!

Hey, there! 😊...your BOTM skits are ridiculously funny 😂...keep them coming! Congratulations on your award, crazy that the ceremony is in Ireland! My greatest award is my degree in English Literature...I see it everyday even though I don't actually use it, but it's nice to look at! When I sold my house here in the US two years ago, I had to disclose EVERYTHING I knew about the house and the buyer's inspector came out three times! But I'm glad you finally found a place in future episodes 😊. Nice! 😊

I had to leave my last apartment due to black mold toxicity. It was awful and completely wrecked my immune and digestive systems. Well done dodging that bullet, and I’m so so sorry you’ve had no luck so far. Stay present and hopeful as you have been, Emma. I’m in it with you! Living with family trying to get healthy until I find my next space 🙏🏼 I know you’ll attract exactly what’s meant for you. ❤

I'm so so sorry for the houses, this whole housing crisis makes me insane :') I've been searching for a house for almost a year in Quebec city, and it's been more and more hearthbreaking everytime. My absurd winner was a house in with "a small leak under the kitchen sink, everything is fine now"... said leak was repaired with neWsPapEr 🤡
The ceiling in the basement under was brown, making a huge bubble, and completely wet. Don't even try to imagjne the rest 😅
Wish you the best, keep trying Emma 💕

I always love your Book of the Month skits, but this might be my favourite yet. "Boo!... -k" is way more adorable than it has any right to be haha.
Congratulations on the academic prize, that's amazing! I totally relate to the struggle to accept that your work is good/feel proud of your achievements, and I hope you can still enjoy this, you *do* deserve it.
I'm so sorry that the house search is going so badly. Hang in there, I hope your luck turns aroung soon! ❤✊
The excited flapping that took place over here when you showed East of Eden 😅 I love that book so much, and I agree that you should ideally go into it without knowing too much about it. That novel took me on such a journey, I hope it will do the same for you whenever you pick it up.
Yay so happy to hear you're enjoying Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell so far! The way Susanna Clarke uses language in that book is amazing, she really gets this early 1800s vibe across so well without it ever feeling like she's trying too hard, the language flows very naturally. Also the atmosphere is top notch, I'm personally always down for footnotes in fiction (yes I do love Terry Pratchett), and it is so character driven, which I love. Honestly one of the most immersive books I've ever read, whenever I stopped reading it felt like I literally immerged from the pages, as if I had been underwater. (Oh no, don't make me want to re-read it, I have so many unread books on my shelf that I want to get to. 😅)
Oh also I just started reading The Raven Boys because of you, and I'm only about 100 pages in, but I'm loving it so far. I don't really read YA, like, ever, barely even did as a teenager, but something about this really scratches my brain. I might get pretty obsessed with this haha.

I’m HIGHLY allergic to mold. Like I can’t be outside when there are wet leaves and I can’t use mulch around our property. I’m anaphylactic to penicillin and I can’t eat certain cheeses. But with that comes a keen sense/feeling when there is mold present. When I enter a home I can tell when there is water/ moisture or mold within a few steps of entering the home. My realtor joked she was going to hire me to tour houses with her clients lol

Canadian Tire money! When I moved from Canada to England I brought some with me! Of no use here of course but home comforting to have. Rare over here to not see someone with a water bottle clutched in one hand & their mobile 'phone in the other! You are, as best we can tell / see worthy of many fine prizes! I want that crane card! I read Steinbeck's Of Mice & Men a fair time ago & have found it impossible to forget. His The Grapes of Wrath was one of the books my English father would re-read. As for the Zola, I do my best to not shop from chains but rather independent retailers which is not difficult to do here in Cambridge UK ... independent bookshops, coffee shops, frock shops etc. ...

Searching for a rental is a nightmare. So sorry to hear of your experiences so far. Congratulations on your academic win. I do wish you could go to Ireland but so awesome winning this!🏆 I never thought of the impact of department stores historically on individual shops as portrayed in The Ladies' Paradise. I have not read it but I am thinking about it. As you said Wal-Mart did the same thing and now Amazon. It's strange to see shopping malls struggling due to online shopping. The pop up cards are gorgeous! Let's talk about Joe Abercrombie. Grim dark high fantasy, morally gray characters, flawed characters you can't help but root for. It's a vibe. I have read 6 so far and love them. I also have Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell unread on my shelf. Sigh. I hope you find a place soon! 🏡📚

OH MY GOD THE FIRST LAW !!!! i am sooo excited for u to read it !! but a fair warning tho, it is a fantasy series much more focused on characterisation rather than the plot or magic. that is not to say that its bad, obviously, because i personally adore it !! the books will have u laugh out loud multiple times despite the fact that it is a grimdark fantasy lol. also, since u said u wanna read more fantasy, may i suggest u green bone saga by fonda lee. it is based on chinese culture and has the atmosphere of hong kong’s 80/90s movies. it is a generational saga that centers a (basically) mafia family that battles another similar family for the monopoly over a city. it has amazing fight scenes (bc the magic powers are heavily used for that in particular) as well as world building and characterisation. the series only gets better with each book too !! im sure u’ll love it:)

If you want the original magnolia books, order from Blackwells! They ship from the UK, but there isn't really an upcharge.

I am SO EXCITED you're going to read The First Law trilogy. You are going to LOVE it. One caviat, the first book is good, but the weakest of the three because it's mostly set up. Get ready for such a great ride! And the 2nd trilogy is even better! ❤🗡️

Congratulations on the award, Emma! I’m sure it was well deserved, because you always have great insights about literature. I would be really interested in reading the paper you submitted. Only if you are comfortable sharing it with us, of course.

Congratulations, Emma! Please know that you very much deserve all the accolades that come your way. 💕💕
I suspect you dodged a bullet with the house you wanted; the owners sounded odd, and may have been problematic down the road. Sending blessings of strength and peace to you. Take care. ❤

I listened to the romance book ranking video. Turtles all the way down by John Green I believe you would like. It’s a young adult story but the connection between the characters Aza and Davis tugged at my heart.

Emma! In Ontario ALL leases (unless you live with the landlord or their child or parent.. or share a kitchen or bathroom with one of these people) go month to month. You can't be evicted without cause so the 6-month lease would have just been the fixed term meaning they could only provide you with an N12 or N13 (for personal use or for buyers use and for renovations requiring a permit) with a date no sooner than the end of the fixed term lease. The only other reasons in Ontario you can be evicted are lack of payment or you are doing criminal things in there and even the criminal things one can be more difficult! If you haven't def read the RTA and a 6 month lease will likely be far less off putting! Also, it doesn't matter if you're month to month or on a 20 year lease, they can raise the rent by the legal max (if the unit first was occupied before November 15 2018) or by whatever the heck they want to once every 12 months in a unit first occuped after that date as it's not covered by rent control. I am not sure where specifically you're looking to rent but i've heard recently that rent is actually going down. I would honestly guess that the person who wanted you to keep bidding higher but REALLY WANTED YOU was just trying to get you to pay more and didn't have anyone else bidding! If you're still interested you could contact them back and say you will take it for the 6 months at the originally listed price if the unit is still available.
If you get a chance check out the OntarioLandlord subreddit! You will learn so many laws so fast and really understand your rights as a tenant and what a landlord CAN'T do!
    Goodluck
