70% of the time whoever shoots first, wins in a tank engagement. so if the Shermans saw the tiger first the 76mm could go clean through the front armor of the tiger.
@Live The Future Only at 500m though, it for sure didn't have the effective range that the 88mm gun on the Tiger had. It could ambush tanks from 2000m away.
Tip as tiger: use your advantages properly and effectively. Angle your hulls and prioritize the stronger sherman. If the sherman angle their hulls towards you, load an AP shell into the sherman tank and target the lower part of the front plate. Make sure to stay concealed while doing this. Tip as sherman: blind the tiger’s scope first with smoke shells. After that, give yourself space with the tiger. Load your self with HE shell and tell your gunner to do an indirect fire at the tiger, make sure he estimated the trajectory correctly.
@@solidbro9407 or you if your a sherman with a short barrel it's best to stay away from the tiger and let someone else deal with it or you could use your machine guns to blind the gunner and aim for the gun and I think it doesn't matter if the sherman does angle their hulls because of our reaction time of firing at the right spot and it's really hard to get angling right (but if your a jumbo sherman then just f*** it shoot their gun and track off and finish them from the side unless they have friends)
In the movie, the shell hit the guard plate at a sharp angle under the wood, the guard plate and the armor underneath is around 65-80mm thick in total, not including the angle that it was hit at. It wasnt the wood, the shell ricocheted.
The idea was taken from russian tank crews who would do that as it would increase the angle via shell normalization as the shell would then be angled more causing more armour they have to penetrate to be greater than the penetration capability regaredless of the second shell normalization when it hits the actual armour then the fact of angle from what it seems the angle of fire appeared to be around 60-80° as a rough estimate and yes I did calculate this via the 2 caliber and 3 caliber rule as such it will not penetrate if you dont believe do the research you will see what I mean
Apparently the tiger didn’t target the obvious fucking threat that is the 76 Sherman. It probably could’ve punched thru the front armor of the tiger too
I never really liked this scene because A. The tiger pushes up even though the smoke is cleared and they are in a good position B. That 76 mm AP round below 600 meters should have gone straight through the frontal plate of that tiger especially center mass C. Didn’t target Fury after taking out the first 76 mm, although it was realistic to target a 76 mm Sherman first you’d think the tiger crew would go for Fury first considering you can see the 76’s muzzle break which is easier to spot from long distance, but instead they target the 75 after killing the first M4A1.

Story of my life on WT: 1: Sherman track eats 88mm 2: Sherman she’ll knocks out gun muzzle 3: gets bombarded by Sherman shells with every other shell either hitting my transmission or barrel 4: get flanked by cheeky M22
Alpha Ghost I think that now the effects would be more similar to the movie, like the sounds and the smoke as well as the fact that rounds make proper noises when passing overhead.
Amazing recreation, though the scene always made no sense - no sensible tank commander would abandon their ambush point over smoke and trade it for an open field.
Awesome Face you are assuming this tank crew in spring 1945 is: -Well crewed -battle tested -not fucking Volkstrum Why would a tank that can pen these fools from 1200 yards not try to engage? Had the Fury not an extremely experienced crew they would be dead.
Ominethious Calistian . The 76mm sherman could have penned the Tiger from the front about halfway through the fight. If it had a good gunner and commander, only one tank would have died.
They are acually not penetrating him, becouse in the filming they used the all time HE and by the end they used AP to penetrate the armor plate in the back. If the would fire the whole time with AP, they tiger would be dead very quickly
Graybeard Actually, this scene has always irritated me with all of its inaccuracies. First, a tank platoon would not be just diddling down the road like that making targets of themselves. They would have their turrets pointed in all directions with the TCs and Loaders out and looking for trouble. Second, Sherman tanks did not explode in balls of flame Hollywood style. They got punched, and then the ammo started to burn. It took a few minutes before you could see a fire. Also, when they were engaged, Brad Pitt's character had the plot radio that didn't work negating fire support. BS. As the platoon leader, he would have climbed over to the next tank with the code book and called for artillery there. That is what they were trained to do. Also, the American attack was also Wehrabo fantasy and Hollywood. Army doctrine, which they were trained in, had the tanks moving to flank the Tiger, something the Americans did in both N Africa and Sicily when they first engaged them from the flanks. They knew the side armor was thinner than the front (so much for the gotta shoot'em in the butt Hollywood line) so they would be moving to flank jinking right and left as they went. Tiger turrets could turn 360 degrees in 60 seconds. Sherman Turrets could do that in 15 seconds, they knew that advantage well. Also, the stabilized guns on the Shermans meant they could into position fast and fire. So, this whole scene is pretty much a joke.
Good breakdown, Randall. There's more... the Tiger I did not have a gyro-stabilized gun for firing on the move, hence whenever possible, the tank would be halted in order to make the aim of the shot as steady as possible. That isn't to say that they would never fire on the move, only that the crews preferred not to do so. Pure Hollywood, too, that the Shermans move out across a field of fire without reconning it first. Crews were taught - especially when in Indian Country - not to silhouette themselves against the skyline, and not to cross long expanses of open ground without scouts out ahead and on the flanks, if at all possible. And the four tank column is much-tighter than it would have been in real life; the tanks would have been spread out more to make it tougher to bring all of the tanks under fire at once. Last but not least, on a mission of this kind, the tanks would not have operated with infantry support, preferably armored infantry in half-tracks or trucks, or even on foot, as tank riders. If contact with enemy armor was even suspected, TDs would have been attached to the platoon - M36s or M18s - to increase its ability to handle enemy armor. Ditto air and arty. By April 1945, there were an ample excess of Allied tac-air assets loitering over all of the battlefields, waiting for targets. The radio net was well-established by then, too, meaning that tank crews would be netted in with artillery and air assets. Brad Pitt's character could have called in a time-on-target arty barrage or other artillery. German tankers didn't like getting caught in the open when those 155mm shells from our "Long Toms" started landing.
Fun fact: The actual Fury story is based on a true event about a British tank in WWI that broke down and trapped its crew by German trenches in No Man's Land. No, Brad Pitt was not there.
Yep it was the Frey Bentos if I remember correctly I think they even added the battle in that Battlefield World War 1 game. Can't help but laugh at all the Wehraboos when they cry about how unrealistic that scene is when the Waffen SS was down to recruiting anyone that could stand or walk.
If it was world of tanks, The story would be like this. *4 tanks moving down the grassy fields*, Rear tank gets ammoracked, 2nd tanks gets scared and friendly fires into the first tanks butt, The first tank get's shot into the engine, causeing engine failure and becomes slower, 3rd tank is prepared, 3rd tank turns and reversed into the tree waiting for the krauts, 2nd and 1st tank follows his steps, 2nd tank is succesful, 1st tank is shot in front of the hull because of been too slow, 2nd tank is out of shells, the tiger appears, shoots the 2nd tank's turret, the cannon is damaged, 3rd tank bc of RNG hits the tiger and riochets and hits hitlers soup, and hitler is now sad, 2nd tank is shot again and taken out, 3rd tanks starts moving and gets behind the tigers butt, then they both remember arty party is not over yet, the stupid dumb american arty camping at spawn shoots and kills both the tiger and the sherman, then a stupid little bulldog finds the arty and blows it up. then the camping ISU-152 blows up the bulldog, ISU-152 is found by a enemy KV-2, kV-2 shoots blows up the ISU-152, KV-2 glitched and flew of a brigde, and blows up, Nobody won, just like how Epstien did not kill him self

The loader usually doesn't know exactly what's going on. Maybe there was just one tank. Maybe there is infantry, so HE would make more sense. He doesn't know that. IIRC the loader on the Tiger I doesn't have a periscope (at least Tiger 131, that was used in the movie. Later Tigers have a single fixed periscope), so he is reliant on the commander or gunner to tell him what to load next.
It's standard procedure to give precise orders, despite how obvious a situation may seem. If you let each crew member do what they think is right you'll get chaos

This was total shit. Even in 1945, the inexperienced, young tank commanders will know at least this 1. You always take out fireflies and other tanks that can take you out. 2. In order to stop a column, you take out the first tank in the column first, then start aiming for the last tank. 3. Never leave a good ambush position (though this could be because the commander was green and got nervous after the smoke) No amount of inexperience can explain this sort of stupidity
@@sktrpozer9765 fury is not shit, yeah it can be unrealistic in some scenes but is one of the greatest war movies that shows the dark side of the ww2, also shows that american soldiers werent the angels that people thinks they were, unrealistic or not is a really fantastic movie
Mind you by 1945, no tank column in the US Army would only have 4 tanks, Air Support would have been around constantly and the odds that Tiger would have faced, likely would have been more like 17 to 1, instead of 4 to 1. Also the US Army were sticklers about at least trying tom maintain a cohesion in Armored battalions, you see I think 3 different variants of the Sherman in that platoon, where likely there would have been either all 75s or all 76's, and usually they'd have been 75s such was the procedure to keep a fighter bomber or 2 hanging around them at all times.

Good remake. Actually I dont quite understand why the tiger have to come to CQC with Sherman in the first place... As long as the tiger's out of smoke he should take advantage of his armor and the deadly 88mm gun. Just the question from the original film Fury.
human error. potentially a miscalculation by the commander who could have assumed the enemy would retreat and attempted to pursue. The path is fully committed due to the tiger's poor movement so they could not bail once they saw the shermans charge.
the tiger ll only 27 or 28 were made, there were not many, therefore the tiger was not replaced by the tiger ll, and it continued in operation until berlin
Possible. But for the sake of the movie, they needed to alert the other crews and not kill off the movie and it's main cast right then. Much like the Tiger rolling out of its ambush position. True, it was smoked, it probably should have reversed, but as someone else once stated ; this is the last active, mobile Tiger in the world. It was on loan from the Bovington Tank Museum. How can you not have this beast rolling about in a field? What a waste. If you're looking at it from a historical stand point, sure, you're going nowhere - it's a Hollywood movie, however, they do give us some dark, gritty scenes and some great action with some fantastic settings, sound and visual effects and we get to see Tanks doing what they were made to do.

Tip: if you have a sherman with a long barrel you can penetrate the sides of the fornt armor plate shoot near the drivers vision port
As a war thunder player I agree
There’s a thin line in the frontal plate where you can penetrate the tiger
@@Nythegreat-uy7js u mean the entire fucking plate
Wood VS 88mm Kwk 36
winner:wood
wtf???
Quite sure that it also becomes harder to penetrate through different materials.

I never really liked this scene because A. The tiger pushes up even though the smoke is cleared and they are in a good position
B. That 76 mm AP round below 600 meters should have gone straight through the frontal plate of that tiger especially center mass

What the fuck would watch a movie only a few minutes long?
This is a masterpiece. Just an absolute masterpiece
Can't help but laugh at all the Wehraboos when they cry about how unrealistic that scene is when the Waffen SS was down to recruiting anyone that could stand or walk.

interesting how the tiger commander says 'load armour piercing'. well what the fu*k else were you firing at that Sherman when it exploded, fu*king HE? why wouldn't you load another round of AP.
Aussie Wirraway you know the tiger I had a HEAT shell that could pen the Shermans
He was shooting HVAP, you can tell by the whistle of the round. They most likely had that loaded incase they encountered Pershings, but they switched to standard APCBC once they realized they were fighting shermans.
It's pretty funny to see how the Tiger loader needs 5 seconds to load the gun and in an other scene he need 15 seconds to load the gun.

Wow this was really well executed!
This was total shit.
Even in 1945, the inexperienced, young tank commanders will know at least this
1. You always take out fireflies and other tanks that can take you out.
2. In order to stop a column, you take out the first tank in the column first, then start aiming for the last tank.
3. Never leave a good ambush position (though this could be because the commander was green and got nervous after the smoke)
No amount of inexperience can explain this sort of stupidity
Welp like alot of people said Fury was a shit movie due to the fact it was unrealistic as hell.
AND this is a recreation of that said movie.
