How many people just tuned in to get a listen to Pete's new Suhr?..... ;-)
Great demo as always Pete
I just tuned in to get a listen to Pete Himself!!! even if he played a Squier! xD
I’ve already got an Iridium. This makes me want to sell mine because mine will never sound this good 😅
I thought it was Noel Gallagher. Almost left, but much better! awesome
I just got mine last Friday. I played through it for two hours straight when I got home. This thing does everything Strymon says it does and more. I cannot say enough good things about it. Now I can play through headphones with ultra-realistic tones. Get one, you will NOT regret it.
I have a Riverside love it. The EV5 opens it right up.
Currently got a Joyo cab sim.
But I'll get one later.
Robert Hurless so it’s last in your chain ?
@@rodericktompkins7882 generally yes.
roderick tompkins no, I put time based effects after it. Just like an effects loop.
Yeah I got me one. It's great. Love that I can use the headphone output to send the signal to my 2 inputs of my audio interface and the stereo outputs to time based effects and then into the other 2 inputs of the audio interface and that way I can mix the dry signal with the one mixed with the delays and reverb. Its a great option. Great pedal.
Yes, sure the Strymon seems like an awesome pedal and you actually got me interested in it. But I have been watching this channel for a while now and I just have to say it for once: I'm mainly here for the playing. Pete, thank you for inspiring and motivating me.
That opening track is haunting but beautiful .
Sorry, Haunting AND beautiful .
We're spoiled for gear these days, what a time to be a musician!
TheRealReTox spoiled for UA-cam content as well.
And the tons of gear that we have now are all obsessed with trying to emulate the few pieces of gear that the previous generation was "stuck" trying to make all that iconic music with.
@@rt-uh6mt I've just ordered a digital modelling amp in the hope that it emulates just one good amp tone, then it'll be set & forget. I promise!
What a time for a revolution! Let's get rid of MIDI and come up with something far better than these PC, CC, effects switcher complications. Just look at your mobile phone. Apps and mobile OS systems are light years ahead of the guitar effects industry when it comes to user interaction. What a time to be a musician and witness the next innovation!
Imagine Hendrix still alive in 2020, with a board full of chase bliss stuff and so on, that would be interesting
I began talking about a Strymon modeler years ago on The Gear Page. I'm so glad they finally released one. Not at all what I expected from them, but it's a sensible way to approach it. And of course, you make it sound amazing.
Status report:
I purchased an Iridium back in 2020, for those times (more often than not) where the gig preference was low -> no stage volume. Churches, clubs, even larger venues.
The Iridium has not only held up beautifully, but it's become my solution to volume requests. Nothing beats feeling the air push behind you w/ an amp.... but because the Iridium takes pedals so well, I can gig anywhere with my preferred pedalboard and get 99.9999999% of my "feel" and tone compared to my amps. I hate interfaces, it's quite literally an amp in a box that goes on your board. Get you one.
I've watched pretty much all the reviews/demos of the iridium...and this one is by a country mile, the most helpful and useful, many thanks
Thanks!!! Glad it was helpful
I bought one about a year and a half ago on the strength of this review and love it.
mix of intro track was amazing through headphones
Glad u like it!!
"Option Anxiety" is exactly the problem I have with my POD Go and Helix-style products. A gazillion options too many. Let's face it, the gazillion options are just options of the basic three amps anyway, right? Every amp out there is a version of either a Fender, Vox, or Marshall. The Strymon Iridium simply reduces the options down to the most basic choices, brilliantly, and there are KNOBS you can tweak on the fly!
Thank youuuu,
The only person who knows to dial it back whether gear or style or anything has first taken it way too far,
And I 100 percent agree
I had helix stomp and often used different presets, but never once did I create my own patch or dive the menus or do hardly anything the thing was capable of,
Simplicity is best
give me a few options with easy tactile controls
Tweak a few little things here and there, master the controls after a year or so of use and it becomes second nature to manipulate the thing on the go
at the flip of a switch
at a moments notice,
This type of workflow is so crucial to creativity and fun, I can't stress this enough,
Will I ever be as good as Pete? No
But will I ever be able to dial in gear like Pete? Again no.
But will I be inspired every single time I hear him play? Hell yeah!
Will he make me broke with his awesome gear reviews? Possibly😀
You’re too kind, I can never be you either! You be the best Blaine you can be
"You Don't Need To Read The Manual" ~ I like it already...lol. Xclnt demo Pete . . . Thx :-)
Loved seeing your take on this one Pete. Btw, like the candy apple red w tortoise. One of my favorite combos.
Howdy - are you on Instagram? I’ve joined and find it much easier than UA-cam to share what’s happening. Hope all is well, Happy New Year!
@@bbmade Hey BB! Happy New Year man! I've been concentrating on YT but have thought of using Instagram for "micro-promotion" stuff. Pete and Rick use it to great effect. It also would fit with some new projects. I'll look for you over there.
five watt world - Sounds good, lots of videos in the works here for UA-cam but it’s really easy to post little things along the way there.
great intro music, beautiful melody
I love mine, I love the simplicity of it and sounds incredible.
can i use it with my frfr headrush? is it kinda like a little amp where i can use pedals to color just like an amp?
Sounds Fantastic. Love your choice-of-notes on the intro guitar solo. Channeling your inner Robben Ford or Larry Carlton? Very . . . Steely Dan-ish ( meant as huge compliment ). Happy New Year brother from NYC.
Thank u!
Got one the week it was released, didn't even plug it in at the shop I bought it from, just took it home. Didn't regret it, sounds amazing, so simple to use. Takes pedals in front of it extremely well as well. I've really been trying to get away from a totally computer centered approach to recording, and I love the fact that you pick one of three great sounding amps, pick one of three cabs for the chosen amp, drive, tone stack, and then hit record, no futzing around with loading plugins, digging through menus and getting lost in a million options. One feature that I think merits mentioning is that the mid-control functions differently for each amp. On the punch (Marshall) setting it's a mid control just like on a Plexi, on the round (Fender) setting, at 12 o'clock it's at the fixed mid-setting of a Blackface Deluxe, cutting cuts mids in a sort of post-preamp fashion, but boosting rolls toward a Tweed Deluxe mid tone and increases overall gain as well, which sounds amazing, especially with the Vibrolux cab IR. On the chime (Vox) setting, it acts as the hi cut knob on the Vox top boost channel, super cool sound. In the last 6 months I've bought the Volante, the Iridium, and just a week ago, the Blue Sky, so you can officially color me a Strymon fanboy. I've got the Iridium on my board after everything except the Volante and Blue Sky, and I run stereo into them and then into my audio interface, and it's the best guitar recording setup I've ever had.
I got mine 2 weeks ago, sounds great in some of the demos on youtube, little less in my hands. I cannot decide what to do. For each situation I want to have an option to bypass amp emulation and be able to go to the real amp:
a) pedals => Iridium => Delay/Reverb => FOH
b) pedals => Kingsley Constable which is vacuum tube based pedal preamp based on Plexi => NUX Solid studio which is power end and IR => Delay/Reverb => FOH
c) pedals => Kingsley Constable which is vacuum tube based pedal preamp based on Plexi => Torpedo C.A.B. M which is also power end and IR => Delay/Reverb => FOH
I am looking for exact same setup. What is it that you don't like about Iridium? I am looking at Blackbird Effectrode Tube Preamp, Ethose D-Preamp, and most recently at Malin Dumble Preamp.(800$)
@@Bero70 I have not given up yet on Iridium so I am going to keep it little longer, I am going to the NAMM show so on Thursday or Friday I will talk to Strymon people.
(1) A New product has been announced so I am going to wait with my decision which direction to go. I hope to test it at the NAMM this week:
Tsakalis AudioWorks - MultiICab MKIII
ua-cam.com/video/cVlpXcqTay8/v-deo.html
In the video's description you can see the features. What attracts me here are two things:
-2 analog FET preamp voicings with tone control (Clean, Hot)
-2 analog power amp voicings (EL34, 6L6)
From using my NUX Solid Studio I realized how important it is for the pedal like this to have power amp section and most have digital modeled ones, this one have analog power amp voicing.
What worries me that the speaker emulation may not be IR based, I would prefer to have IR Convolution based so I can load myself really good and tested IRs.
(2) Another new product that I hope to check at the NAMM is ENGL Cabloadeer IR Pedal
ua-cam.com/video/IS0YPEh3O2Q/v-deo.html
In the demo it sounds pretty good.
I like it has 12 loaded IRs and empty slots 13-16 for the user to load his own.
It has Presence and Master like real amp
YOu can choose the type of power tubes, microphones.
It has two favorite presets, in my case I think I could use one type of IR for clean sounds and one IR for gain sounds, very convenient playing live.
True bypass, so if I decide to use amp on stage, I can just turn off the unit.
==========
Regarding IRIDIUM, I agree that it sounds pretty good and it could be a simple solution for what I need. I like that it is stereo unit.
(a) although it sound good, it does not feel like playing an amp. When I use my tube preamps with NUX Solid Studio and then run through quality reverb and delay, it feels much better. Before I played with Kingsley Constable, but last night I pulled out from the drawer the ADA MP-1 Channel pedal and I have to say that it sounds even better. MP-1 has two channels Clean and Distortion. I was surprised how beautifully my Strat sounds with its clean channel.
The Distortion channel has more gain than Constable so I don't need to boost it to get great lead sounds. But I got the NUX Horseman pedal for $65 and I was so positively surprised. It is clone of the famous Klon, actually Horseman has two settings to clon Silver and Gold versions of famous Klon.
So on ADA MP-1 I set up lower gain, good for rhythm and then step of Horseman for beautiful lead sound.
ADA MP-1 same as the original rack unit has two 12AX7A tubes.
I strongly recommend the NUX Horseman, for $65 it literally blew my mind now good this pedal is. I have to tell you that I own original Klon KTR and I prefer Horseman because of the sound and size. I set it up all 3 knobs at 12 noon.
(b) Modeling: it says on the Iridium pedal that it is an amp+IR. The amp includes preamp and power amp as one emulation. So if I want to use my vacuum tube preamp I have to use it with emulation that is already in Iridium.
So Iridium is better suited to be used with an overdrive/distortion or boost pedal in front than full preamp.
(c) Most of the demos, as well as the Iridium manual suggests to use it like a real amp, means put all the pedals, including reverb and delay in front. In real life I would do it with a single channel amp like Fender Princeton. But certainly I would not run reverb and delay into gained to max Marshall JCM800.
So in Iridium to run reverb and delay in front, I would have to setup each amp with no more than 50% gain, clean or light crunch.
If I want to use Punch Marshall in Iridium at its max settings, I need to place Reverb and Delay after the Iridium.
So, I think it would make a dramatic difference if the modeling in Iridium could have to separate sections preamp and power amp, and to have in between FX Send and Return.
I will check the two new pedals I mentioned above at the NAMM show, then after the NAMM I will check Iridium again and finally I will set up which way I want to go.
As of today my choice still stays NUX Solid Studio with tube preamp pedakl, Horseman, and two pedals that play very special role in my setup: Timmy, and Chase Tone Golden Secret Preamp (analog pedal that supposed to be a copy of the preamp from Echoplex EP3, this pedal will stay forever with every pedalboard that I will ever use, I have to say it is really a secret ingredient that makes everything sound much better, at least in my case). But Eric Johnson also is using (real) Echoplex just for its preamp.
===================================================
I owned Blackbird Effectrode Tube Preamp, it did not work for me, unfortunately, but if you can try it, it may work for you.
Well, I had asked on Facebook when we’d get to hear the red Suhr and here’s my answer! Great playing as always!
I recently invested in a TONEX pedal ... something I really regret. The 1st pedal was physically defective, and the next two pedals had some sort of non-fixable software issues. For the vast majority of the time I "Owned" a TONEX Pedal (March of this year through late August of this year) I did not have a working pedal to use and was either waiting for a call from IKM "Tech Support" or I was waiting for a replacement pedal. This was a VERY unpleasant experience. When the pedal worked, it sounded very good ... however, I had a 100% failure on their TONEX pedals. This Strymon Iridium looks like a good alternative to the TONEX pedal, however, the reliability and accuracy of any piece of equipment I invest in must be very good, or I don't need it. Thanks for another good video Pete ... keep 'em coming.
I love Pete's demos. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, you could take Pete's demos and combine them into a playlist and have a great album. Suffice to say, I've just purchased "Guitar Nerd" and will have this on my car stereo tomorrow morning. Can't wait... :)
Exactly. I listened to one of Pete's albums, and I realized I like his demos better.
Forget the pedal, love the new haircut! best of luck in London, can't wait for those videos t00!
At last, someone playing actual tuneful music to show off the unit , my Iridium will be here tomorrow, I can't wait. 😊
The opening solo was excellent.
Wonderful note choices with great feel.
I absolutely see me getting one of these to record with.... great video, tone and playing Pete.
YES! Put at least a boost before the Iridium. Makes a ton of difference.
Playing clean? Use clean boost. Playing dirty? Use some overdrive (balance gain levels between the pedals). Makes a big difference.
I just bought the Iridium last week - the Vox is incredible - the other 2 are absolutely great - I don't play metal, you're probably right about it. I'm a new follower and love your jaw-dropping 70's 80s leads and chord changes with 2020 equipment- all right up my alley. You're awesome - remind me of Joe Perry - I did some stage work for Joe Perry Project twice- 2 weekends each - and was right next to him on stage behind the PA watching - you have a lot in common
First demo of this thing that actually made me think about buying it, the others have all sounded thin (so there's the PT tonemeister in action!). As always, I'm here as much for the demo song as the unit itself, but I can see it's uses. And yes, "option paralysis" on most modellers means you'll spend less time playing, and more time "menu-ing", I know..... :O)
I just bought an iridium to use at home . WOW! all in that little box? Nice opening, your playing is always a treat.
Pete... that intro tune, man. I said god damn! Beautiful.
Thanks!!!!
You put so much work into these videos. So much respect for you sir. Great playing and demo/explanation of the pedal.
sorry as off-topic but wow...the neck and headstock on that red Suhr guitar look incredible, a close up in the future to see the details possibly??
I just wanted you to know that I finished listening to your Lp “Guitar Nerd” and have now listed ALL my guitar gear up on Reverb for sale...lol Love Your Work Man! Keep On Rockin’ In The Free World....🎸🔊🎶🤘🏻
Thanks for listening man!
Great! Yeah I love my Iridium, I think the "round" model really takes my drive pedals great too, sounds and feel like the real thing
As usual, amazing demo. Really amazing song and great to see how you used all the models AND built in room settings. I love mine and will be gigging it with an HXFX and some choice pedals up front.
Thanks!
Yo ya no entro por revisión de los pedales, solo lo hago por la magia de las interpretaciones de este genio, como toca este tipo...
Love that you got the hybrid headstock on the suhr! Gorgeous guitar. Sick demo as always.
Love the bones of the demo tune! The dynamics of the composition really help expose the gear’s strengths. Playing is awesome as always too!
Hi peter coming to see the classic rock show in London on the 17th January, good luck!
I think some of the designers at Strymon were the first to develop the Peavey Viper modeling amps as well as design modeling on the Variax guitar. Not their first rodeo .
OMG!!!!! Mr. Thorn does it again!!! Great job!!!
I have a feeling this is a proof of concept for a bigger product. I've heard great things but can't get my hands one on yet. Thanks for the demo!
@Luke Robinett I"m expecting something in the Blue Sky, Timeline, Mobius Family. Midi controlled. etc etc.
It may not do metal, but that's why you have the USB port, so you can upload an metal amp IRs.I got me one it's really great. My main amp and Cab sim for recording.
That opening guitar piece was some of your best stuff. Beautiful!
Best demo of this pedal I have seen until now! Great one!!!
The Vox blew me away but maybe I didn't appreciate it to begin with - the Fender sounds great - I almost instantly forget that I was not playing through an amp - the Marshall - not sure yet - I've only had it for 10 days. I got rid of my Pod Go and got this in its place and won't look back - I love it
Such a great composition Pete!! 👌👍
Selling off my 4 x 12 cabs, and other bulky non used gear to downsize with this Iridium. Even if I only use my Rolland GP-8, I'm capable of any classic style. I'm also going to eliminate monitors in favor of sound bar side fills and in ear monitors.
This fretboard and this neck on the Suhr are just gorgeous! Is it a new one Pete?!
cool track Pete... I'm not a gear snob by any means, but these tones sound pretty warm and real to my ears...
Spectacular song writing Pete! I love this song. Love you and your videos, thank you bro!!!
Thank God. Finally someone who turns the room knob up! It makes this pedal.
Opening track was unbelievable! Gave me big Pink Floyd vibes. Epic
Perfect all round mate - Rudi in Sydney
There really is a reasonable answer to the question of the much higher than normal cost of all Strymon products...because they all kick ass!
I absolutely love the fretboard on your red Suhr. Great demo as always.
Every video man... so good.. really dig the AC vibe on this one🎛
Pete, if you put all of your demo song into an album, we'll listened to that!
EDIT : it's raining in the city rn, that intro song is perfect with the weather!!
I've always wanted to try to mix his intro demos into full songs with vocals on some, glad my brain is working with the hive mind ;)
The two Petes are my favorite youtoob players... This guy and Danish Pete.
I got mine a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Great demo as always man
That suhr. Holy shhhhh....the playing , writing is worthy. Indeed.
Would've been cool to hear a couple of old-school stomp boxes plugged in as well
Fantastic playing! You manage to impress me again and again
Nice riffs, Pete!
Great demo of what this thing can do. Your demo has an Incubus feel to me.
The Chime tone sounds like talk shows everybody loves my car or hello ,hello
Hey Pete, great video. Composition, technique and tone all class.
Thanks!
Don't know what I want more that Suhr or the Iridium! Wait...........yes, the Suhr! We always get a super great Demo, and I've been waiting for this one! Cheers!!🤘🎸👍
Thanks Pete..
Hey Pete - that track is a keeper for full development on the next Pete Thorn album.
Also - I got a 2 min Strymon ad before the video. Bonus.
Hundreds of presets with a midi controller, and live time volume control with an expression pedal.....these are features I find VERY appealing for playing live.
great playing! the iridium sounds great too!
Awesome demo like usual. That song was pretty nice.
Great demo, thanks! How about a new episode of 'How to be a pro musician'? Loved those series!
My God, you are a beast on the guitar. So musical. I always stop what I'm doing when I get a notice that you have uploaded a demo! Keep on rockin' in the free world, Bruthaman!
Thank u!
Love it! I wanted JTM45 in place of Plexi. I’ll have to look back through the music and see - maybe Plexi is really better.
LOVE THIS SONG PETE, YOU ARE AWESOME!
THANX PETE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO.
Thanks Bill!
This pedal really seems great. I'd be interested to see how it takes different pedals. Also, being able to load your own IR's really does make it pretty damn flexible, because that can really change how things sound. Very nice.
The posibilities with IRs are endless
@Luke Robinett That's really great to hear, especially the Muff. I'm interested in how drive pedals hit the virtual "front ends" of the modeled amps. But as long as the pedals sound like they're supposed to sound, that's good enough for me. Why cause trouble? LOL
I've had mine for a few weeks and it takes dirt and boost pedals VERY well. It has a JFET preamp input with like 20db of gain so it acts like a real guitar input. My TS9 boosts the Plexi for more grit and my BE-OD sounds awesome on both the Deluxe and Plexi models.
@@snowforts Thanks!
Super inspired
Awesome stuff Pete
Thanks!
Sounds great. Love the new guitar and tasty playing!
Man Pete, I feel something every time I hear you play. It's never boring. These JFET devices are sounding really beautiful. This, Orange tone butler and super crush, etc. Is there anything like these that have a metal sound for DI or in-ear small packages?
excited to see what Strymon is cooking for Bass modeling!
I see guys at suhr have taken some steps to finally do something with that fugly headstock.
It's a good choice for them. So many amps are trying to recreate these amps anyway.
Back to the drawing board......
Fantastic stuff dude.
Those isolated tracks felt even more magical after hearing them in the mix, like you were sitting in the live room of the studio when it was being recorded. Great cab sim, great demo, & cool new haircut Pete! Keeping the ears warmer in the winter, in both demos & hairstyles ;)
Thanks Jason!
Pete's Haircut is bordering on Mr. Spock Territory. I think he maybe even Smarter than Spock! LOL!
Hey Pete, when you get the chance please demo Paul Gilbert's new dirt pedal from JHS. I want to hear your thoughts about it.
Regards,
Kris
Sound like the solo at the end of the demo that was done on your Dual fusion pedal demo years ago!!
another fantastic demo ,,cheers from australia
Great video. I'd love to see how the Iridium compares to cheaper options like the mooer Radar.
I love mine! It takes pedals great also 👍
So debating on getting this pedal. I am a worship leader and just feel this might be easy to use for live setting and seems to have a great guitar amp/tone out of it
How would people compate this to hx stomp amp modeling?
Loving the new Suhr and, as always, sounds and ecc Fantastic!
Great tune and playing as always! I recently got the Iridium and this tube snob is a believer! It sounds fantastic and is so easy to dial in.
Thank u!
Pete did a review a while back on the Radial JDX Direct Drive. Similar purpose, even less options paralysis, half the price, and an XLR out. Still sounds great and it's what I use.
Pretty different unit, it’s not an amp modeler, and it’s all analog. Sure there is some overlap but way different really
Killer sounds Pete thorn.
I own one, I really like it. It doesn’t do “everything.” But hey, you can lay down some serious sounds. It’s like “Nashville in a box.”
That sounds like a good description!
