Nakarkos is truly a frightening fiend. For one thing, it's based on various cephalopods, including the octopus and cuttlefish. They're not just some of the most alien-looking creatures of the deep, but they're also the smartest of all invertebrates, showing a keen skill at problem solving. It shows its intellect by understanding exactly how the bones it collects work - it uses a Brachydios arm to spread explosive slime mold, an Uragaan chin to cause tremors, a Glavenus tail to spread flames, and a Lagiacrus back-shell to send electricity through the bones that make up the floor of its lair. It even plays a bit of mimicry like the mimic octopus by pretending to be a two-headed dragon using skulls of an unknown creature. Second, it's a glutton like Deviljho, but it doesn't eat constantly because it has to - it eats up entire ecosystems because it WANTS to. It even picks and chooses its meals casually, rather than just going for anything that moves.
I like how the beginning of this song is most likely what a hunter's first impression of Nakarkos's true head looks like... Pretty much just: "Holy shit what?"
My dnd party just had to fight some demons in the Abyss and the DM used this as battle music. I had to ask him what song it was. I never played this game but it's got some amazing music!

Some people think the fact that you can kick the ass of a giant cuttlefish wearing dead wyverns as sock puppets, all while bopping out to an orchestra with an organ that sounds perfectly in place doesn't make for a good game. yeah, I call bullshit on those people-
When I read this initially I couldn’t stop laughing! Especially with the sock puppets! You are right though, this monster is super sick and I really hope they bring it back for daybreak!
Its an organ and these are the best parts of these kinds of themes for me. When the hunter gets their turn with the music and having it be like a ray of hope coming down to help them rise from a seemingly hopeless fight
You know everytime I fight this guy I always have this feeling of doubt. I always keep thinking 'am I doing any damage?' 'Oh it seems like a part has broken... he seems fine though..' I don't know if its the multiplayer lagg but man during the fight it feels like we're not really progressing at all like we could be hunting for an eternity.
It only really feels like you make progress if you play EXTREMELY aggressive. The basic pattern is to break the arms in phase 1, attack his back. In phase 2 (entirety of G rank version) you need to break one arm, then focus of the face, and attack the tip of the other arm or attack its back when it's knocked down. Extremely long, but goes down fast if you can play aggressive. And i mean REALLY aggressive.
You understand you are actually facing a final boss when the monster starts using the abilities of other monsters. PS: It remembers a music from Find Mii. Perhaps because it has a simple epic melody and not too much instruments.
You know the final boss is powerful when the reason it's using the attacks of other monsters isn't because it controls them, but because it killed them
I love the organ playing the Bhurma motif. Makes you feel like that you’ve come so far, and you’re not gonna quit. Not while the town of Bhurma is, nay, all of the Old World is in danger
I don't think it's the Bherna village theme at all, but it definitely adds to the climactic feel of the song. (For comparison, Ahtal-Ka'a theme has a climactic reprise the Hunter's Hub / Soaritorium motif).
I think it is, at the second part of the organs, it’s sounds like the quieter part of Let’s Nyance, which is the lyrical version of the Bhurma theme. But it’s probably also the gathering hall theme, too. I do see what you’re getting at

If you think about it, Nakarkos is just a reflection of the hunter. He goes into a world he shouldn't be welcome in, kills all he can, wears their corpses for protection, and weaponizes them to kill even more. He's like the Lautrec of monster hunter. To kill it for the damage it causes to ecosystems is hypocrisy, since we've commited sins just as great if not worse. Especially in GU, where half the monsters aren't killed for survival or even because they pose a threat, but for frivolous reasons according to the quest descriptions and for our own money. Who are we to judge?
Keep in mind that the guild exists to curb excessive monster hunting. They promote just as much conservation as they do culling. Poaching of monsters is explicitly forbidden. Canonically, every quest we do is only ever done once. Nakarkos is a legitimate ecological threat. The world of Monster Hunter lives in a very different time than the Kingdom of Schrade. That was when hunting was truly out of control. Humanity built the Ultimate Dragon Weapon, a power that could rival the Black Dragons, and was stuck down in their arrogance by Fatalis.

Hmm I wonder if it will remain an elder dragon when/if it returns, since we now have/will have the Black Flame in wilds.
But Akantor/Ukanlos are very very strong monsters that arent elders, so it wouldn't really make a difference.
Maybe the cephalopods aren't native to the old world/incredible rare, so itvwas thought it was a unike beeing, similar to Kirin.
Idk if kirin is a good example, cuz he's just a wingless Kushala, the moment you remove his fur
This fight REALLY reminded me of the giant crab scene from Moana.
anyone talking about how much this guy resembles sans
-Skeletal
-Blue
-Has goat-like skulls
-Shoots blue lasers from said goat skulls
-Lives in an underground hole
i mean to be entirely fair i don't remember sans shifting into an alt mode where he barfs up dragon-flavoured Master Sparks from his face
but yeah now that you mention it there is somewhat of a resemblance
@@Mr._Sherwood ultra sans
The only differences they have is the fact that one is a simple skeleton and one is a giant squid with a skull armor... oh, and the fact that Nakarkos doesn't dodge the attacks.
Lol but which one came first?
