Thank you so much for this full demonstration video, i couldnt make my mind up between getting one of these and a freedom 2 berth caravan, my mind is now made up as i always choose the path of least resistance
It is a shame that these are no longer made or indeed, in business. They seemed to have gotten a lot of things right. Bed supports that slide out and easily adjust to the appropriate height for the terrain, hard sided walls on the gable ends and sides, proper door and their thermo-bond technology that indeed, seemed to have lived up to its name. These should be resurrected with a more modern look and perhaps an easier set-up for the kitchen. Perhaps an off-road version (as Opus Campers have done) would boost sales also.
Wow!!! We need this here in the USA! Love the fabric that does not build up condensation and that it can be folded up even when wet...plus the insulating factor for heat or cold. BRILLIANT.
@Kelly Kelly - we have this one - a bit older from the early 90's - so it's in light blue but the interior is the same as it was reupholstered by Riva before we bought it. I can confirm that you really can pack them away wet and then use them again without worry. Two years ago we packed up in a massive storm at Sidmouth folk week and didn't even check it until the following September (13 months later) when we arrived at Dartmoor to camp - everything was fine and Dandy - lol - no mould, no damp, all of our bedding was fine too - they are amazing.
Reckon with all that's happened recently, it won't be long before dandy folding campers will be back under manufacture 👍😊 that would be great. We have one from the seventies, and love it 👍😊
I wish they had these r.v. tents in the U.S.A.. I live in Virginia, U S.A.. This would be pulled by my Subaru Impreza with little problems, but still able too. Do you have a sales representative in the U.S.? All we have is hard side folding campers. There are some tent campers here, but not as simple and light as yours.
@@NeilTaylor If taking this over to Norway, what will that cost in toll aso ? I need one like this! I am pretty shore that if English people went over to Scandinavia and sold it here, you would get a much better price too ;)
I have had many Dandys over many years , they were great for family holidays when money was tight , and with practice putting them up , and folding them away is easy , ...do not put away wet , or dry as soon as possible, one negative , the material that it is made from was much better in the earlier models, ( the brown and light blue ones )the later dark blue material does not seem to be as good as the earlier material
I'm curious if you can keep these warmer inside than a normal tent, because of how many wood walls you have? Does anyone have input on this, during cold performance? Thanks.
@@NeilTaylor thank you for the reply! Happy Camping! I also like that these can be pulled by smaller cars because, light weight. The big trailers you can't do unless you have an expensive truck.
How much assembly are you willing to do to make the end product worthwhile. If you feel that your time is totally committed to assembling and disassembling a camper - is it worth it? When I get to a camping site, I want to spend a very limited amount of time assembling my camper. It kind of takes the joy out of camping.

i wonder how all that aluminum held up under regular use. it looks really fragile. like idk if those little tiny poles that are supposed to hold up the beds would hold up with more than a child on them. that place to sit won't hold up with an adult leaning against it. also why do you have to basically build the hole thing inside and out once you get there. love the material innovation but the rest seems to have taken a few steps backwards! even for 2011!
As we have one I can dispute this completely. They are very strong and only take 10 mins to set up (faster than an average tent). Thet are also big once set up, 2 double beds, 2 seats & a table, cooker & sink.
@@grandma_1887 Again absolutely not. They are PVC double insulated so completely windproof & rainproof. All joints to body are velcro's where thay are not tucked under with the elastic straps. I've know these in 70mph winds and they coped well.
@@NeilTaylor Not in the UK you cant', it's too wide, long and heavy. the maximum width of a motorcycle trailer here is 1m, and the maximum weight is 250kg, or 2/3 the weight of the bike, whichever is the lower. Also, the maximum length is 2.5m measured from the rear axle of the bike. I would love too see something like this for a bike. For most bikes, even my BMW R1200RT, it would need to be no more than 180kg.

It's nice that the roof is up during assembly, but what about the sides? I've had to put up/take down tents and tent trailers in the pouring rain with strong winds. Once that plywood/fibreboard gets wet, it'll start to mold/rot.

yes one person can put up a dandy.
Cool design. My spike tent still has more space though and probably a fraction of the price.

Agreed. Drop the supports, crank up the roof and pull out the slides.
and looks like a lot of wind can leak through it. I don’t think is very good for a rainy day.

I've had to put up/take down tents and tent trailers in the pouring rain with strong winds. Once that plywood/fibreboard gets wet, it'll start to mold/rot.
The side walls are solid with a PVC covering so never rot, hence why you find Dandys from the 70s/80s still going.
How is it able to be packed up wet and not be dried out ... mildew et al?
It is made from PVC so does not get mildew or rot.
