Hey Jennora! I recently got accepted into the Brown class 2025! yayyy! When I was making my video portfolio, I cannot tell you how many times I rewatched this video because I truly believed it was the best video portfolio out there. This video is awe inspiring, and helped me tell my own story for my Brown video. So I would like to personally thank you for uploading this to UA-cam and being so true and authentic! I hope I'll see you on campus someday when all this ends :) sending my love -- WM
watching this at 3 am, anxious out of my mind because the ED application is due in 4 days, and this made me feel so calmed. i can tell you have such good energy just from a two-minute video, and it's apparent that the brown AOs were able to tell the same!! i filmed and edited my own video portfolio a couple of days ago, and i'm hoping it'll be up to par. thank you for sharing your story - if all goes well, maybe one day we'll cross paths!!
this is such a beautiful comment, thank you so so much❤️ im so glad this video helped you ahhhhh, and I genuinely wish you all the best! and to see you on campus next year :))
congrats on the acceptance! that part about how your hair changes was something that made me smile because I'm usually insecure about changing hairstyles too soon. I go from 20-inch braids to a 2-inch afro within a month lmao, but the fact that you included it in your portfolio made me happy. I wish you the best!
Ate down. I’m doing mine rn and was looking for a black applicant. I feel like I was struggling with making my story more palatable, while also showing the joy that I spread
Hi Jennora! Your video inspired me a lot when I was making mine to Brown, and I literally just finished it earlier today. So I'm here to say thank you a lot for sharing your story and basically being such an awesome human being! : D
hello! I'm starting the video making process for my ED application this year and was watching your video as inspiration when I noticed your WDW5 hoodie. Can I just say, I noticed it, rewinded it to check that I was right, and then immediately came to the comments to tell you that I am also a limelight!! Glad to find another, and congratulations on Brown! :)
this is so good!! i'm watching this just after I've finished filming my video portfolio and now i'm...kinda self-conscious TT. congrats on getting into brown! fingers crossed that I'll get there too, hah.
Hi Jennora... This is your mother's cousin Jeanine. Our mothers; your grandmother Zetta Mae Stanton-Jones, and Dorothy Lee Stanton were sisters. Your grandma was "dynamite" she and her sisters could sing as well! (smile). Aunt Zett as we called her would have spoiled you rotten and least not forget your grandpa Paul Allen Glover-Jones. He was politically attuned, and totally aware of who he was as a strong black man. He would have love you like "crazy"! Oh and by the way the actor/activist Danny Glover is his first cousin on his maternal side. Just a little family his history. I haven't gotten to know you well but what I have learned about you is your beautiful" spirit! Oooo to be young; gifted; talented; a genius; and foremost a woman who is beautifully Black! Congratulations! Much Love Many blessings! Cousin Jeanine
I really don't know how I got here, I'm not even american, I'm already enrolled in a college. But all these videos make me insecure. Is it normal to have that many hobbies and join that many clubs in America? It all seems like a lot and very high standards.
ahhh I don’t know if it’s normal, but I’m very fortunate to have all of these opportunities available to me! i genuinely committed to all of these activities bc i really loved doing them, not to hit any sort of standard❤️ im sorry that it made u feel insecure-im sure you’re super super cool!
Students here in the US commonly feel a lot of pressure to get in to a good college. College applications are hard, a lot of work, and you have to do it just right. By high school, everyone knows what colleges "want to see" or "look for"; this always includes things like sports (how many years were you able to commit, how good were you at it, varsity or junior varsity...), clubs (again how you committed, your position(s) in the club f.x. president, and does the club actually align with who you are), and hobbies (again the traits from before). Grades/ classes taken/ GPA all play a huge factor, but definitely not a determining factor. Of course if you want to get in to a prestigious school like Brown, certain grades will be required, but that school will also have their own standards outside of grades. The most important factors for getting in to college basically consist of grades, you as a person (hobbies, sports, clubs), and your personal essay. The personal essay causes a lot of stress. Most will spend all of high school, especially the last year, stressing over what to write their college essay about. The most common topics are mission trips, death of a family member/pet, now COVID-19, sports, you get the point. The thing is college administration officers don't care about another sob story or another list of achievements, you could literally write an essay about your hair dryer, but if you're able to relate that to yourself in an amazing and memorable way, they'll love it. If you're just someone who's always passed classes with an average grade, and done none or little sports/hobbies/clubs, you have very low chances of getting in to a college besides your local community college. Don't get me wrong, these are still great schools honestly, it's just so dumb that that's your only option. As someone raised both in Denmark and the US, who's gone to school both places, the US school system is definitely crazier and more messed up. It still makes no sense to me sometimes and upsets me how stupid it is.
@@grapplejuice6059 speaking from personal experience, im a low-income, first-gen student and all of these opportunities were free for me through my school, however, I would say that low-income students are definitely disadvantaged in terms of multiple parts of the college process, and that can include access to extracurriculars depending on what high schools they are in.
Not everyone does so many activities here, but it's kind of the expectation for college here:/ But don't feel bad about not doing enough, sometimes we are pressured to do so many things for college, and that's not good. And you have the rest of your life to explore everything!!
Hey! So I watched this a while back and I keep coming back to it because it is literally such a beautiful video, and honestly the energy of it (and you) is just on point. Thank you so much for sharing this with us
