Update: Today is June 26, 2023, I am watching your Sept 19, 2022 vlog between 7 & 8 am when the power went down😭, it came back on at 11:30am. So much for short term outage. Wb J
So almost a year ago there was a short term outage that was short enough to be handled by batteries. How is that not exactly what I keep telling people?
Also, you seem to be desperately seeking "an" example of "an" outage long enough to call a long term outage. While that's very noble of you, there are a few things you should keep in mind... 1. I've already posted all of the outages that I experience. So calling me out for not disclosing an outage BASED ON me disclosing the outage makes zero sense. I'm the one that told everyone about the power issues. I do so so that people can see exactly what it is like. 2. I've provided guides and tips on what to do HERE in practical terms to make a few hours a "short term" outage that doesn't affect anything from what batteries to use and what computers and cooling and water systems so that power isn't a factor for brief outages. 3. Finding "an" example of something and trying to use that as a statistic is backwards. You are desperately attempting to use that something "has happened" to claim that it happens "often". That's not how that works. A meteor killed the dinosaurs. It happened once. We don't say that "meteors often strike earth killing all life" based on a single example. 4. You realize that the southern US is in "International news level power outage" right now, with massive areas, larger than all of Nicaragua, without power for WEEKS. And you are trying to say that Nicaragua has power problems by pointing out a locally isolated, brief power outage almost a year ago? That you need to use this brief outage as an example makes my point better than I ever could.
The commentary on sun was very informative. I also have extremely sunburn prone skin so found your experience surprising. Also great info for phones!! Curious as to the humidity there. As a Floridian, I’m used to heat but the humidity makes it so much more unbearable. If you were filming at 2pm in my community you’d be sweat through your clothes by the end.
I can’t speak for Leon, where Scott lives, but where I live, in Escamequita on the south pacific coast of Nicaragua, the humidity is steady in the 80% range. Quite humid, but the ocean breeze helps tremendously. Unlike Florida, our temps average in the low to mid 80s so it never feels as oppressive as Florida in the summer. Leon is supposedly the hottest area in all of Nicaragua, but Scott seems to be comfortable.
@@bryandaves1005 thanks for that! I purchased a lot in las fincas so you are talking specifically to me with your information on escamequita! Which development are you in? I did get sunburned while there in May but was outside the majority of the day, unlike an actual living scenario…
@@Jenn-ot9qj That’s awesome Jenn! We bought a lot in Big Sky Ranch and are in the beginning stages of the building process. We are currently renting a home in Playa El Coco until our home is finished
If you were here in May, you were here in one of the hottest months. March and May are second to April. If you were fairly comfortable during that visit, you’ll do just fine living here
@@bryandaves1005 that was my plan… figured I’d come at the worst part of the year and if I liked it, would only love it more the rest of the year. Where are you relocating from and will you be part or full time? What builder are you using? I’m not ready to build just yet but hoping in about 3 years…
Yes. Completely free. But so are all of the alternatives. But WhatsApp advertised hard long ago and won the mindshare. It's also secure and sends files, video, calls, text.

I purchased my phone through Verizon and it is unlocked. From what I’ve gathered, the phone is locked for a month or two from the purchase date and then it is unlocked after that. T Mobile unlocks their phones 365 days after purchase
It depends, but yeah, they each have their own process. But it isn't always automatic and doesn't always work. I think Verizon it is a few months after completing the purchase, not starting. If you are on a plan, that can be quite a while. I have had people with old Verizon phones be totally unable to get service here. And it's more than just locking the card, TMobile will also try to lock out the eSim, too.
Pretty much always gorgeous here! What do you mean? I'm a famous vlogger, right? jajajaja. Just kidding. I'm a technology and business consultant (I've been a CIO for a very long time now.) I also run a software firm (very small, but we make our own products.) I'm also an author (I wrote Linux Administration Best Practices by Packt Publishing, find me on Amazon - Scott Alan Miller is the name I always use). I own a hotel and some restaurants and bars. I do a bit of everything. I'm always working and always have been. Started by software career in the Fortune 100 at age 13 and never stopped. Added IT at age 18. Was managing restaurants by 19, hotels by 21, owned by own firm by 22. It's been a wild ride, lol.
Of course Chinandega is down right now. They've got some planned maintenance this morning. But loads of the US has been down for two weeks now, so by comparison, this isn't even what Texans would call an outage.
thanks Scott! great information. Was that the 3rd Ave bridge area at the start? lovely setting. You are truly helping me in the planning stages of living abroad. I installed whatapp to familiarize. (I have used mint mobile on Android for over a year with no complaints and at 15/mo, thats cheap in the u.s.) Salud!
No, that's the 6th Ave bridge. At 3:21 notice the giant building above the river, that's how you can easily tell. 3rd Ave has the park, Maxi Pali and my buddy Lorenzo's complex (very treed) at it, and 6th Ave has that big "factory" building and lots of open space. So if there is a lot of open sky, it's 6th. and if it is dark from all the trees over it, it's 3rd. Yeah, getting used to WhatsApp and making it a part of every day life helps a lot because you want to be used to adding new people, contacting them, sharing contacts, sending files and so forth before you come. No need for the mechanics of your cell phone to be one of the challenges while traveling. You can use WhatsApp on your desktop / laptop, too. That's what I do most of the time and it makes life SO much easier. I plan to move to Mint when I am in the States (they block you from joining them unless you are physically local, it's crazy, while signing up) to lower my cost from TMobile but keep my US number that I've had for decades (I've never dropped service since 1992!!)
Well, you know. I personally prefer Tigo, because it's customer service is much better (based on my experience). At first, I had the service with Claro (contract), but at some point had an issue with them. Always made my payments on time, but for whatever reason, on a specific month, they suspended the service and did not know why. Dealt with their customer service (had to go to one of thier stores) and they said I hadn't made the monthly payment. Showed them my deposit slip and they confirmed that I was right, so the person I talked to said they would be activating my service that same day...It did not happen that day, or the next day, or the next! I spent so many days with them going back and forth and nothing! I tried solving it over the phone and at the store, but it was mission impossible, and when I asked for their names, or to talk to someone at a higher level, no one gave me an answer! It was so frustrating! I ended my contract with them and since then switched to Tigo (it was called Movistar back then) and their service has been great, amazing! Just for you to know how good Tigo is, there was a time many years ago, when I had lost my job, and I went to the store to end my contract with them, because I didn't have an income to pay for the next month's service...and guess what?.. They gave me a free month of service to help me out! I wasn't expecting that! Not in a million years! Specially here in Nicaragua! They told me that they were going to wait one month, hoping that I could get a job, because I had quite a few years with them, I had been an excellent customer and they knew that things happen! So, I got a job, later on, and have sticked with them and have nothing to complaint about! That's what makes the difference! I definetly recommend Tigo!👍
FYI. I have Claro, 15 day plan costs me 200 cords. 🙂
Nice, just a touch cheaper than Tigo.
I still have my Tigo sim card from Tanzania so I will go back with them they had good service there ...I have soooo many sim cards lol
Jaja, if you have an iPhone, you can migrate your SIMs into your eSIM so that you have all of them, all of the time.

Three to four hours is pretty short term. Long term is full day or days like you get in the US.
