Just had the bottom off my original ME Super this morning, and found that the black slide/lever(???) had come off its bushing, and was jammed between it and the rewind button, which prevented winding at all. With that free, now I "just" have the infinite winding issue. Unfortunately, that black slide was twisted in the process. I've only been sitting on this broken camera for 30 years (I've had it 43, high school graduation present), but now I'm motivated to see if I can get it running again, using your infinite winding tutorial.
Don, Mine was purchased 43 years ago too. 1980 must have been a good year for ME Supers. I still remember the package coming from New York Camera the fall of ‘80. I think I need to see if Alex can bring mine back to life.
We are defiantly getting there, but again you just tail off, the fix maybe the thing that revives this camera that you adore and is so good and tiny that it’s such a shame it’s got to be possible to get an off the shelf component that would fix these and stop them going to landfill, because really it’s the most common issue that I’ve found. Like the advance levers on OM2 it’s so common! DG
Have a look through some of his older videos. He's got plenty where he takes them apart and puts them back together. They've been a huge help for me and I've repaired two ME Supers with the infinite wind issue now.
I will definitely revisit this soon because as I mentioned in the video I think I developed a new to me technique that makes the issue of unsoldering from the main switch a lot less stressy but glad to hear that!
I’ve only used like a couple times and I think maybe the button on the bottom is stuck pushed in I have yet to try and reload the camera But do you have any insight to easy my anxiety on the idea?
I have a problem that I can explain like this: 1) I tried cocking the shutter with the advance lever and sometimes it just fires the shutter automatically without even pressing the button (or should I say it “twitches the shutter” as I don’t think it even properly opened). 2) After a while, the lever jammed and it was impossible to cock the shutter. Is this a typical problem?
Hi bronco, I've got a ME SUPER that seems to be working just fine in every single way except that when I press on the shutter release button I feel no resistance at all. No click, no nothing. Is this worth looking into or a lost cause? Thank you.
Great video and will be useful soon as an "Untested" (ie certainly broken) ME Super is on the way. Unrelated question: the stiffness of the MX shutter knob always bugged me. I assumed the cause was a stiff spring and ball bearing detent. I though about maybe trying a smaller bearing but do you know if it is in the shutter speed knob itself or buried deep in the camera? Thanks again
I don’t have a ME super but I just gambled on the ME that seemed to be in good condition at a thrift store also came with winder but the auto setting won’t work. the camera is saying it’s over exposed but when I hit the shutter it stays open till I switch off the auto setting and put in the 100x mode Maybe just a metering issue?
Yeah, i am afraid i might be taking apart my "not worth fixing" camera and then realising i am going to have go through every damn mechanism in the thing just to have a distant hope it working again.
Thanks! That's the best look yet, anywhere I've seen. Now, I'm waiting for your ME Super step-by-step teardown guide... 🙏🏼🤔🤓🤣
This is tinkering porn.. Awesome vid and commentary. I’m invested in this Aussie’s cam. Hope you share the outcome!
Thank you! I've repaired my Pentax MG thanks to your video. I had the same issue with infinite winding.

Great video! So helpful to see the root problem.

Can you do a video on the dismantling and reassembly of these please? I did mine by trial and error and it was incredibly stressful!

Knew you were the right guy to send it to.
Hey there, how does one reach you to do repairs? Love your attitude about these cameras.
my shutter curtain wont move for love nor money. Mirror and advance are fine. Any suggestions?

I bought a minty looking ME Super, which oddly does not focus to infinity with any lens. Any idea why?

That is pretty common and I would be happy to fix it for you!

My ME works fine on the bulb setting but the mirror locks up with the 100x and automatic shutter speeds. Any idea what might cause that?
Great ,More power to your elbow /

I would have the bottom plate off then think "errrrrrrr...... Now what?" Then put the plate back on and find out i already have screws missing.
