Note: Last Epoch is now at "Mostly Positive"
Note 2: Cobra Kai was originally a UA-cam Premium show, not a Netflix show.
Would be more accurate to say *back* at mostly positive
Steam reviews was a mistake. Most of them aren't even real reviews 😂
Last Epoch is SO good. It just got review bombed for a week of server issues. OW2 servers were 100x worse at launch
15:49 - you said it was 150k at launch, then at next saturday this number got up to 230k... guess that was a very rought week for backend team
it was a review bomb, now the game is playable online. tbh i expected those problems so i played offline until the servers were more stable
"The amount of money you get streaming is barely enough to pay your expenses"
This game is so realistic

I think Karma's main issue is something a lot of games fall into, that being that while trying to convey a message, it forgot that inconveniencing the player doesn't necessarily always convey what they want. There's a different between smartly conveying something and still making it functionally annoying without being too much and just making it too overbearing and therefore...well, stressful, lol. And yea, I get the point is stress, but there's a point where it actively hampers the game design. Maybe more clarity in things like purchases etc would've fixed this.
There's definitely a balancing act when trying to include more meaningful mechanics.
I was just thinking about that too. From what I've seen, it seems like there's an element (perhaps accidental) of inducing irl stress in the player too from the appearance, to the constant movement of edges, to the stress of trying to figure out how to move forward while not overloading on your stress levels. But it's missing an element of decreasing irl stress levels too. I'm not sure how they would manipulate the player's emotions in that way to match what they're trying to do with the mechanics, but I think if the player felt that balancing act between trying to reach your goals and trying not to overload yourself with stress in a direct way and not just as an "I can totally relate to this issue" type of way it would bring it into a genuinely good game.
These have become a great "wind down and relax" kind of thing for me.
big ups 🙏
Avalanche are you going to cover the ff7 remakes at any point?
Ive caught a few z's to both of you
18:47 That's a common tactic to sell your game on key reselling sites like G2A and other places. Because they sell game lootboxes where they guarantee the buyer "at least X games worth X dollars" to make it seem you're going to get at least one AAA game if you buy said lootbox. So instead of doing that they hit up indie devs with loose morals and offer to buy cheap review keys (every dev on Steam can generate a certain amount of keys they can hand out to reviewers/friends/backers). It's pretty disgusting.
I wasn't aware of this, thanks for the information.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 Anytime hun
always wondered why there were games so overpriced and after i found out that, i feeled even more sickened. because before I thought " Greedy devs specting fool people" but now is just nasty despicable strats...
@@TheaArtsFox Yea, it's just disgusting. What's even more annoying is when they are constantly on "sale" so they appear in the list of games on sale. Basically it's just the product version of spam. Really goes to show that there is absolutely ZERO quality control on Steam's store. But as long as Valve can still profit off it there won't be any changes.
My son is doing lord work and making another banger video. Keep up the good work son and I might finally comeback in your life.
maybe someday
Im assuming the reason Dark Astral is $60 is due to key reseller sites. Ive heard of stories where people buy random steam keys from 3rd party sites which include a high priced game which usually end up being garbage which was priced highly.
Welp, that's what happens when you f**k around with these scumbags. You find out that they're scumbags lol.
Last Epoch - At the same time Last Epoch was having these issues, Helldivers 2 was having MASSIVE issues, with no offline way to play, and that game still has very positive reviews. I was on Last Epoch at launch, it was annoying, but it also was expected. It's like the game was full of newbies who hadn't experienced online game launches. Online games of any popularity always struggle with launch day server issues, it's very rare for them not to. The few to "solve" this have had 3-12 hour queues to wait to get in the game, which start all over when you disconnect or crash.
then why are most the negative reviews about the game itself? from broken loot systems to insane bugs so i dont think that its that they are "noobs" they just expected a game that had a demo released 6 YEARS AGO to work on release silly them i guess! so now that the servers are fixed everyone has realised how bad the game is and the reviews reflect that
oh and the game punishes you for doing more damage what a trash mechanic
@@imalittletoxicjustalittle wdym with being punished by doing more damage?
Streamer Simulator seems like it could be a Papers Please with some work lol.
A lot of work haha
Just because you pay rent?
@@kkrup5395 No more in the way the game just never gives you quite enough.
With just a little work, Forspoken seems like it really could be the next Elden Ring!
@@setharoth114 Now let's not be silly
Maybe after a certain number of good games in the midst of the worst reviewed game, like Last Epoch, you could revisit 5 or 10 of those gems to re-endorse them?
That would probably be a good idea after getting maybe 10 or so. I can really only think of like 2 or 3 so far though.
Ever since I first came across this series of yours, I keep telling myself "pace yourself. just watch a game or two at a time." but I always end up binging the entire video because it's too fascinating and your voice is so soothing. And now that I've caught up I have to wait for a new one. It's like eating my favorite meal at a restaurant I barely go to. I love to have it when I can but I can never have enough 😭
Please never stop making these!! It's crazy that bad games can bring this much pleasure but you are a wizard at it!
Look up Wicked Wizard, he makes similar videos, he's hilarious as well.
This series has become a favorite of mine, and it’s always a very nice surprise to see a new entry pop up in my sub box!
Thanks for the meal! 🙏
Hope you enjoy the video!
I love how I found this series through UA-cam recommendations and every time a new vid comes up I'll get another rec. Thanks algorithm, I love these 😊
Why, son? Haven't your mother and I taught you that you shouldn't hurt yourself for attention?
We're worried about your sanity, any more of these bad games and you might just... lose yourself.
Just be careful... We love you.
I can't stop
lol
Son, if I could give you a relatively large wheel of cheese for this I would
Havarti please
Found this channel by accident and it was exactly the kind of content I was looking for! Playing bad games is so entertaining to watch for some reason. Keep playing bad games and I'll watch it! Thanks! Nice video!
27:46 Woah... did you see that? I wish you'd shown more of that scene.
I went back after this comment, now I've seen it. It really made me wonder if there's more hidden stuff in that game.
Visual design of the second game increased my stress more than any amount of programming ever did
I bet that spinning wheel is actually the end of the game
There's nothing behind that. That's the whole point of Phobia
I'm wondering if the wheel speed is tied to the framerate or screen refresh rate
Galactic Bowling reminds me of those game discs you'd get at Walmart that would say like 2000+ games or something. Those always sounded cool to me until I got one and realized that like 99% of them sucked.
IDK if I misunderstood that part about the bowling game. In the 2000 we already had a huge gaming market on PC. The era you are talking about was in the early- to mid-nineties. Are you saying that the game was from that period (because that can't be) or are you saying it is a game that would have worked in that time period?
Love hearing the Deadly Premonition theme in the background 🔥
This is such a good series. Really enjoy it.
Clicking on this video has fucked my youtube algorithm for 3 weeks.
Been there
Shame about Fobia. It really does look like it could become something nice.
I was really hoping that it at least wouldn't be broken
Only the spiky bits of the wheel are supposed to kill you. You can bunny hop on the flat sides of it.
@@joe--cool I suspected as much and watched someone elses gameplay, and comparing it to this, in the other person's gameplay the wheel moves far slower, so it's actually possible to do that. Looks to me like with the wheel turning as fast as it does here, it's impossible to jump correctly, because the character moves so slowly
@@flusendieb6833 I wonder if the wheel's speed is tied to the game's framerate or something like that. I know that happens a ton when people try to play old games on modern systems, but I can imagine an indie dev making a mistake like that too.
Maybe im tripping but i think streamer simulator ripped assets from Crypto Miner Tycoon Simulator. Either that or its the same engine
Edit: im pretty sure they made a room in that game then screenshot it, put some bubbles over it, and called it a day.
I'm wondering if the wheel's speed in Fobia is tied to the framerate or screen refresh rate
My favorite son, I've seen the house of "The Visitor" at least half a dozen times in indie horror games and yes, indeed, all or at least most of these assets aren't hand-made.
When you said "The Visitor", I thought you meant the flash game with that title. It's a point and click adventure game where you play as a space alien that eats everything and can mutate on the principle- "You are what you eat".
If you want to play two really good Tower Defense games with unique mechanics check out X-Morph: Defense and Rift Breaker. Very addicting and with Couch Coop.
Nice Video again.
Will check these out, thanks!
Great video idea. Subbed 😊😊
For steamer simulator: There was/is a "UA-camr Simulator" flash game. It got around the problem of not getting much money at the start by: Letting you get a job. The game adding that would help a lot.
I miss flash games
I love this, I want to see this series more often
Luckily, there are no shortage of poorly reviewed games on Steam.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 Actually, I am a game developer myself, watching these bad works relieves me, because even at my worst, I am much better than these and this reduces the excessive pressure and stress on me.
4:37 Honestly thats the most realistic part. Feels like I'm playing it everyday
The existence of Cobra Kai kinda baffles me. I thought we were past the era of shitty cashgrab games based on movies, TV shows etc., that kind of stuff was such a cancer during the PS2 era and especially the Wii.
Great reviews as always ☘️
I heard galactic bowling and thought it was bowling with planets…I kinda want that now
I'm glad you said what you did about Last Epoch. I'm enjoying it so far, even if i don't really know what I'm doing.
4:45 so, a realistic simulator of life as a millennial then
It took some time for me to understand that it was "MMA" not "anime" and I was very confused that you watch and practice Anime. Also I thought "what a weird pronounciation of anime"
I'm an anime practitioner
This has become one of my favorite series about PC video games.
Using these videos to help remind me I'm doing a good job as a solo dev, so thank you. I can program in peace.
i love the way you talk about the positive and negative things about the game, also huge props for the Tekken ost, as a fan of Tekken i loved it
if u have time try the first cobra kai game : cobra kai the karate kid saga continues , actually brougth me back to old style scrolling beat 'em up and actually had really fun going trought it , second one was meh fun dialogue tho if u are in to the series
I saw LE in the thumbnail and was about to Deus Vult but its literally because of the reviews eviscerating the server issues that have been fixed by now lol.
I've played it far too much since launch haha
So far im only half way through the Streamer simulator portion, but I have to say, ìf all that your describing is intentional, thats kind of genius commentary on the idea of Streaming as a whole.
well for the first game you could have just search a way to find who uploaded the game as it is stored in some sites. (seen it in other channel)
0:19 - Hey son. Josh "Tera Killer" Hayes called. He wants his catchphrase back.
1:55 had me dying lmao
Great video, but 1 small correction.
23:05 Cobra Kai is a UA-cam Premium show, not a Netflix show.
Thanks for the correction. Somehow I thought it was Netflix haha, will add to the pinned comment.
I played through Fobia two years ago on the Switch. That wheel you couldn't get past was going way faster for you than it was for me. There is no way you could have made the timing with those mechanics with it going that fast. And don't fret about not beating it, it doesn't get all that much better if at all.
It looks like The Visitor does have pre-made assets... The game Ghost Watcher on Steam has the same exact house.
If you'd still like to play a tower defense game that's good, I can recommend "Crystal Guardians".
It's currently a free "Prologue" version of the game and is slated to come out soon.
Some interesting systems, quite fun.
Do I hear P4 OST - Heartbeat, heartbreak in the background? Already hit like immediately
Of course
Mmm want to try last Enoch. Think i hate about most arpgs is that i do more reading on the game systems and build than I do playing the game
I think Last Epoch fixes a lot of that. That's the main appeal of the game is that you don't really need to do a ton of research just to be good at the game. With that being said, there's still a ton of variety in builds. It's great.
18:18 God, $60?!? Sounds like a joke/scam 😅😅
I played Fobia on the Switch and I reached the end.
I didn't even realize it was on switch lol
How do you get past the wheel? Would you recommend it?
@@zachwathen9689 I can't really remember, but I'm pretty sure, only the spikes should hurt. It wasn't that hard and I'm not very good at Jump'n'runs.
And I liked it. It's not very long but I bought it on sale. Later there is also an enemy, a shadow version of themselves. That was kinda hard.
So yeah I'd recommend.
13:16 Yes that does sound like a great game mechanic/system! 😊
This video series is comfort food for my mind. Yum yum yum.
With the release and success of tekken 8, any chance we could get a retrospective on the series???
I've been interested in making something like that for a while, but I'm generally not a fighting game guy. I'd have to really learn a lot in terms of controls and mechanics for the genre, which would be an interesting video in and of itself. My answer in short is...maybe someday haha.
@@YourFavoriteSon1 thank for the replay love all your retrospective videos n and regardless of what's next I'm gonna watch it. Keep up the great work son!!!
thanks son, you made my day
As always, I'm proud of you, son.
Son we love you. This doesn’t have to keep happening!
Was really surprised to see last epoch on the list! Didn't realize it had been reviewed so poorly. I picked it up the week before release and have since logged ~200 hours in it. It's been a perfectly fun time, but I guess people just got really mad about all the release bugs and server issues. I've had no major issues since like the 1.1 patch. Certainly no crashes like at release.
the visitor is just that one Garfield show episode
to be fair to developers (especially solo devs) making models is extremely time consuming so as a solo game dev myself i really don't mind games "ripping" models from the asset store.
0:57 - Anything for you, son. You're my favorite one after all!
The least realistic thing about Streamer Simulator is that the streamer only pays $500 for rent, for that much space.
Well it is 500$ a week so 2000$ a month which yeah seems right lol
I feel like Karma is missing a more irl interactive element to drive its point as well. Elements that would increase and decrease USER stress as well. Not just as a game mechanic, but as something that the user would feel in their body as a result of interacting with the game. If they could have figured out how to manipulate user emotions that way, I think that could have been super interesting. As it is, the game JUST looks like it has increasing user irl stress levels down pretty well though. It needs elements that decrease stress of the user too.
When are you doing your full Alan wake 2 review?
I really want to wait until at least the first DLC has been released so I have a bigger picture of the overall narrative.
Some constructive criticism; don't use music with lyrics in your background. It was extremely distracting, and I know the volume was really low, some of us just have sensory issues.
There are instrumental versions of heartbreak you can use instead! Because the song choice is excellent!
Hey there, thanks for the feedback. Never really thought of this before, so I'll adjust it moving forward.
I've never heard of Last Epoch. It actually looks like a lot of fun. I'm gonna check it out as soon as I'm done with FF7
Ah son.. You make me proud!
dear mr. son,
how are you?
best regards,
I am great! Thanks for asking
Bro baited us all with the thumbnail of LE. We all know LE is great
Hey there sonshine, saw a mention of binary domain and thought I'd throw in a reminder, it's from the same studio that made yakuza but a very different game, do at least look it up when you find the time. Thanks.
I've been meaning to check it out
I enjoyed the cube world reference
I can't be sure but looks like the visitor is using a less detailed house from Resident Evil 7.
Steam page currently shows "Mostly Positive" for Last Epoch
The first one is golden for the names alone
Fobia gives me Fancy Pants vibes
if Son wishes to play some more modern (but still decade old) tower deffense i think Deathtrap (by NeocoreGames)was fairly alright, played on on GoG at huge discount and can not complain. its also not my genre so was fairly impressed by some of its workings, not so much the limitation on placement of specific objects on specific tiles, tho at least turret ones seem to alow enough varietty to not get boged in.
Enjoyed your comments on Last Epoch, and agreed with all of them. Good work being balanced regarding the 1.0 launch.
Dark Astral puts the Ug in Ugly.
I saw Fobia and believed it was St Dfina Hotel at first which would have been blasphemy as it’s fantastic. Luckily it was something else entirely
The Streamer Simulator is just meant for parents to gift this to their stupid children who wanna become a streamer instead of getting a real job. It accurately simulates how mindless and empty a streamer's life is and hopefully makes those brats reconsider their carreer choices
16:50 Yes, yes it does. As long as the game or product doesn't work, customers are eintitled to say so. It deserve the rating, so other people don't buy it and maybe wait until the issues are fixed, so those customers can have a better experience.
Dang that Streamer game has the most inconsistent game assets across the game..nothing matches
you know what sucks? Im the son that is not the favorite. My family went out to get pinkberry and left me in the bathroom.
Well its been ten years and im now assistant nightmanager of the lowest rated pinkberry in the tri city area.
I LOLed when I saw Llast Epoch on there
I really like the art style of the second game....I can see maybe a horror game in that style
hey son, can you make Retrospective video on Hitman series?
It's on the list eventually. I'd like to get into that series.
Project Z: The beginning of the end. Chapter I is one of those titles that somehow is very forgettable.
How about playing The Legend of Candlewind: Nights & Candles with 3% positive reviews? ;)
19:39 Its awesome lol
Stylized games are generally better then picture realism crap. Then you get the boring blobs from 07 onwards
last epoch looks genuinely amazing, i am putting it on my wish list right now
Last Epoch is really good. The story could be told better, especially from a world building perspective, but the game itself is really fun. I only play it in offline mode, so server issues don't affect me. (It's so nice to have a game with an offline mode in these days.)
Project Z reminds me of 10 miles to safety. It really looks like they stole all the assets from that game and somehow made it worse lol
THE MENTION OF CUBEWORLD HAD ME SENT. I still love cube world, Just hate what happened and the lack of what happened.
