- Hello we are Joana and Diego, In this video we have collected shots from the day we bought our farm in Spain until today exactly one year ago, so this is a summary of the last 365 days.
When we arrived, the first thing we did was install a solar panel to be able to have electricity, then we did a water installation,
and we began to build our brick tiny house, we did not stop until we finished it, and this summer we have been doing the

My hearts broke seeing you cutting so many beautiful trees.
At some point you’ll have to replace those trees to avoid soil erosion and to create a regenerative system! If you’re getting lorries that deliver, then some timber bought would have meant not sacrificing 40 yr old trees! In ten years there wont be a tree on that visible landscape if you continue to cut trees at the current rate. Other than that, great work!
I am sure Diego or Joana will respond, but i can say they do have plans to replace trees they cut with fruit trees.. it is the wrong time now so will wait next year to plant more.. they have planted a few like cherry tree already.. they do have plans to develop the land but that is a big and takers time.
Hello British Ants, thank you for your comment, as Fabian has already said, we have cut down those trees because they were badly planted (they were on top of an old wall and covered a lot of the sun) now we have a much sunnier plot in which we want to plant more than 20 autochthonous and fruit trees. We are in many projects and right now we have not been able to start but little by little you will see how our land becomes a healthy edible forest, greetings and thank you very much for your comment!🍀
There are more plants then trees that can prevent soil-erosion, grass for example. And in these kind of climates trees grows as weeds, so don´t sweat it ;)
People are to fussy now a days about trees, like they are the only plants out there.
@@Diego_Leon maybe the wall wS badly built? would make more sense demolishing the wall rather than the trees?

First time seeing your video---and I am impressed! Of course, part of that is because I am OLD and you all are a young couple doing what my dream was at your age. You are doing it---I ended up 'settling' for the usual rat race. Now I have to go back and binge watch all of your accomplishments over this past year and I am really looking forward to that. Thanks for posting at this particular time so I can get on board and see all of what you have done with this formerly run-down place.

WoW, I wished I was 30 years younger I would have done the same thing! Funny thing is I own a property in Canada(where I live…) and have a 120 year old cabin on it. But I am too old now to do anything with it, so I just enjoy taking my dogs out there and enjoy nature!☺️🌲🌾🍁 What you 2 have accomplished in one year is astonishing….Just beautiful around there with all the mountains. Thank you so much for the incredible support!❤️ Many of you dont like that we cut "so many" trees, we want you to know that they were wrong place planted, on top of a hundred-year-old stone wall and others were covering a lot of sun for our garden, but we are planting many fruit trees and we have the project of making a small food forest in the future. Don't worry about the tree mongers. Anyone that criticizes you for using the resources available to you in a responsible way has never lived outside their apartment or city dwelling. You have made incredible progress in a year and should be commended on that and your ultimate goal. I pray you do well and continue your successes!
Hey don’t apologize, that’s your place I assume, so you do what makes you happy and what you know is right. Trees that are too close to foundations or walls are a no no in my book. An arborist told me that when you look at the canopy of a mature tree, the diameter that is that the root system is the same diameter underneath the ground. Rats can push walls and foundations in or over. So if you want to plant that species of tree, you at least know how far away from the house or a wall it should go. I would say the same rule applies for removing trees. At any rate if you have a concern over a tree you really like, you might consultant an arborist as to how far the root system might ultimately reach. That is if it’s based on the canopy, or if it may be smaller. This also will help promote healthy trees.

Absolutely wonderful,this is how we should be living.
Did something similar, it was the hardest thing ive ever done. My goal was self-sufficiency so i bit more than i could chew. I got goats, rabbits ,chickens dogs, and had to build a place to stay, there was nothing on the land except trees and an old well, i was staying in an RV/ caravan.
The no electricity/ no running water, the rains the mud, the spring frost, the bugs and diseases in the garden ,the sensitivity of animals and their own diseases, all of it was an eye opener. It takes a bit of courage to leave the rat race and livr on your own terms kind of scary in a way.
How is it now?
but you can only win, cause either you live the dream or you realize how good you life has been previously and appreciate the safety and comfort of modern life.
Underrated comment. Not sure what is wrong with studying, practicing and pursuing a career in the modern world. This stuff is nice to watch as it looks romantic. Perhaps you develop a bad back problem at 45 years of age lifting heavy stuff all day…. Gone is the dream…

Bravo! je suis ravi de constater que nous sommes de plus en plus nombreux à avoir adopter ce mode de vie simple et sain. J'ai moi même restauré une ancienne ferme avec ma compagne, donc je sais que c'est loin d'être toujours une partie de plaisir, et que ça demande beaucoup d'efforts et de sacrifices. Il faut notamment accepter de manquer parfois de confort pendant un temps. Mais ça en vaux tellement la peine! Après ce n'est plus que du bonheur! ça va faire 6 ans que nous avons finit les gros œuvres, et maintenant nous aménageons tranquillement sans nous presser, celons nos envie et nos humeurs. Nous essayons pleins de choses différentes, surtout pour notre potager, et nous sommes contents du résultats. c'est la belle vie! Bon courage à vous.

I wish we had made a time laps video like this for our home in the pyrenean mountains forty years ago. But then, we just didn't have the adequate technical equipment😉.We still live here, at 900 meters. 5 kms of very bad road to the village below and 25 km to the next small town. We raised our five kids here, born at home... well, it's great that nowadays people still do this kind of thing. Our house house hadn't been lived in for 50 years and when the house became too small for all the kids, we built three rooms in our barn I'd love to send you photos, alas, you tube...☹
