Grew up in SD, but now in my 5th yr in Oregon. Found out 2wks ago while in the Carlsbad waters that fish could actually be that close to the shore. Jumping out of the water behind us and seeing them in the waves was so awesome. I'm a beach gal and I've NEVER seen fish in the SD waters like that. LOVED Carlsbad beach!❤!
Love fly lining sandys and ghost shrimp out there! Always nice to hunt the corbs, and slam a nice croaker! That place also puts out some monster perch! Cheers man👌
Grew up surf fishing Tamarack and South Carlsbad beaches back in the 70's......always a good time. Thinking of getting back out now that the summer crowds have left. I have photos of my dad surf fishing the same beaches back in the 40's. And you're right.....sand crabs make the best bait!
@@surffishinginsocal lol......thanks for the moral support. Need to sort through my 'old' fishing gear and see what sort of surf rig I can gin up. I see I have a Daiwa GS-20, a Penn 550 SS and a Shimano 2000 spinning reel....any recommendations?
@@socalpal8416 I always prefer spinning reels so I’d go with the shimano there. It’s a bit small but it’ll do for sure. Slap some 10lb test on there and you should fit enough. Maybe go down to 8lb if ya need too
Nice session and great footage dude. Going to try some surf fishing up in San Clemente this Sat 🤞 then going on my first 3/4 day trip outta Dana Warf on Sunday. Hope the fish are biting!
I was fishing at Tamarack beach and using Gulp worms. I had zero bites and not even a nibble. I switched to lures and nothing. I switched to sand crabs and got bites and fish.
Okuma celilo. The exact specs are listed in this link if you scroll past the sharking stuff you’ll find “light tackle set-up”. surffishingsocalsd.com/nick-heids-surf-fishing-set-ups/
Yes sir. I haven’t looked into all the piers and which ones require licenses but I will be doing research this week and hopefully publishing an article in the next week or two to clearly answer this question. You can find my articles here: surffishingsocalsd.com/surf-fishing-report-socal/
@@surffishinginsocal awesome!! Thank you so much for the reply back I appreciate it! Hope to see you out there! Tight lines and keep them vids rolling! 🤙🏼

Best of luck man and thanks for the support!
I gotta try the Carolina rig some more just feels funny since im so used to HiLo rig
I know what ya mean. New rigs and even setups can be funky to get used to but it’s always beneficial to have options under your belt.
ive had more success with carolina / fish finder than hi/lo in the surf, I think because of presentation
Nice vid. Just found your channel. Subbed! 🤙🏼
Appreciate it!
Great video! Thanks :)

Do you need a license to fish the beach there or the pier?
