Nice video. I skipped the colors just because i'm going to be doing simple gaming videos. But, it's people like you that are great, and willing to share knowledge.
I'm brand new to DaVinci Resolve. I'm an educator at a medical school and I found this tutorial to be absolutely outstanding. He gives a tremendous amount of information, that can be replayed as necessary to absorb!
Crash courses are something that many folks try, very few ones nails. This one really brings a bird's eye of Resolve, in a hurry but not messy way. You really know your shit, dude! Congrats!
TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING TROUBLE IMPORTING FILES!!! Ok, I am new myself to Resolve but I am a 20 year veteran of VFX so I know that something small can sometimes trip you up to where you want to go nuts. First of all, anyone using a PC or a Mac should be able to import MP4 files. My guess is that you are still, while in the media section, are actually in the Timelines view and not actually looking at your "media pool". Make sure you have created a new bin and that the bin is not a Timeline bin which is a little wonky to me right now but I am sure has some sort of purpose. But at the moment, as far as I can tell, Resolve has a separate area for media that is TimeLines and ones that are straight up media. While not advisable, h.264 is available, as Mp4 or mov and so is every other codec in the world. Some are saying .mp3 isn't but I'd be surprised if it's really not. Either way, you shouldn't be using Mp3 or h.264. H.264 should be raised to a less complex codec such as ProRes or DNxHD. Good luck.
Did someone tell you, you are genius! I have been trying to learn learning da Vinci for a long time but never got started because tutorials are usually never indepth and takes a lot for granted which can stop a learner on the tracks. Great video, and thanks so much!
Rookie here on DaVinci - I downloaded and went thru your tutorial.... the best I have seen .... smooth with great clarity! Now my brain has to remember it all... however I plan to set you up on a laptop as I continue to learn this and hopefully it will sink in .... in time. Thank you Casey!
Resolve is the first free, intuitive, professional video editor software I have stumbled upon in the years that I have, albeit occassionally, tried to find something like this. Absolutely amazing! (It took me ten minutes to figure out how to export my simple, cropped video because "Deliver" is a very unusual term in the software industry ;-)) Great tutorial!
can someone help me pls, i am making a little montage and i put all the video files in it but i want music on the background i convert some music from youtube to mp3 but how do i put the music on the background?
I don't understand the point of this "video editor" I recorded a bunch of clips in CS:GO using Shadow Play, and I can't select any of the videos. This editor sucks, doesn't even work with MP4 files...
having to go from working on premier pro to resolve because I've moved computers and work and this quick crash course has definitely helped me, can't wait to start working on resolve now
I really appreciate the fast talking. I get _so_ impatient watching most instructional videos. If something goes past too fast, I can always repeat, but when people talk too slow there's no easy way to speed it up.
I definitely recommend this video for those who just downloaded DaVinci Resolve for the first time and have no clue how to work with it (that was my case). Now I can get started with new upcoming videos!!! Thank you man. This was a really great video.
Thanks for your crash course. I plan to get around to watching an in-depth series, but this should get me up an running for basic know-how. Glad i found your channel.
Hey Casey, this is good. I've been a pro still photographer for 32 years but this is my first foray into video. I was a bit lost but, using this video as my stable-datum, I'm found! Thanks for going slowly and using small words so that I could follow easily. I appreciate you.
Great stuff, thanks! We're slowly moving from SpeedGrade (RIP) to Resolve and you've been my number 1 source of information getting to know the software. Informative, concise and entertaining.
so cool. 12.5 added some of my favorite aspects of photoshop and capture one where i spend most of my time. the nodes are layers to me and being able to copy color style and other edits from clip to clip works just like in capture one - but the tracking feature is insane. thank you very much for the overview of 12.5.
Great Job. Loved the thoroughness and the pace at which you delivered it. For a professional editor needing a quick intro it was perfect. Looks like I might be shifting over to Resolve.
Thank you so much! I was clueless about how to edit on this because I downloaded it about 10 min ago and after watching this, my video is edited and I am happy.
Thank you! This is a great tutorial for beginners with just about the right amount of depth and tips and tricks to get one started. It saved me a lot of time!
Great tutorial! I downloaded this program after getting frustrated with how lousy iMovie is.... this has so many options but is a great FREE program to use. It inspires me to make my own little movies. Thanks again for doing this.
I'm downloading the editor as i'm watching... so excited to start using it!!! Thanks for this tutorial it REALLY HELPED A LOT without it i will open the editor and think TOO HARD back to my old crappy editor... you earned yourself a new subscriber... THANKS FOR BEING AWESOME
Brillant Video for beginners. Only Thing missing: the "Use optimized media" setting. That allows users with non-workstation-pc to edit 4K footage smoothly. But you explain that in another video. Thanks for your great help and inspiration.
Thanks, although I have been using Resolve for awhile I learned a few things. I learned where the wheel is for a quick warming or cooling of a clip on 12.5. Keep up the good work. Gerry in Calgary
I really like your tutorials, thank you so much! You are the reason my ski edit is gonna look DA BOMB this year! Just one remark, sometimes you click on stuff really fast. Even when I rewind the video to see what you click or hit, it's hard to tell from time to time. But again, thanks you for the awsome tuts!
Awesome tutorial. I just got a Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6k, a new laptop w/ 4G VDRAM and 32 GB RAM. WHOA!!!! It really renders fast. Major step up from my old NLE Sony Vegas. I subscribed. Cheers!
Thank you so much for your knowledgeable video, after watching your training video i have done my 1 projects and my second project on process, thank you so much bottom of my heart !!!!
Great tutorial! I finally figured out why I couldn't render into Quicktime with DNxHD. The volume name had a "/" in it and it seems that Resolve in combo with Quicktime doesn't like that. That's it. Case closed and I can enjoy your tutorials. Resolve is by the way rendering extremely fast.
Awesome, demo! Short but still everything I was hoping to see in great detail. This changed my thought, before I was going to use Hitfilm but I think davinci resolve is more what I was looking for. Thanks
LUTs explained with Cats. Pretty slick I must say. Being so new my brain is full, it was very easy to understand. Thanks. Check out your sites tomorrow.
Excellent video - thank you! This guy is no BS, funny and knows his stuff. I can't believe how much I learned just by watching just this one video. I'm going to have to hunker down and binge watch this channel. Thank you for this upload. Sub'd.
Thanks Casey! id like to start by saying that was a smooth intro, good job lol😄👍 Also, I got what I needed to know within first 10/15 minutes of video! I went from using a phone app to this for editing and it really helped, so thanks so much😃
Great video, you really got me going! I downloaded the free version of the Resolve 12.5 software and after a couple hours of playing around, my workflow now starts with Resolve before putting my flattened drone footage into Premiere. THANKS!
Your process of teaching is perfect. You give the layout, then you go in depth. No nonsense rambling. It's solid.
Party On
fucking agreed dude this guy finally explained everything!
Not everything at all, but gives a really good basic knowledge for starters to use this program. :)
really true...............

same
Same, I'm going to do animation and Blender Filmic does everything the way I like. Some of these features I might work.
same here
DaBombGamer thats why resolve ia amazing free version and everything you could ask for but a easy learning curve
That was the most fun, informative, and straight to the point tutorial I've ever watched on youtube. You rock.
I'd love to see a start to finish video grading a few shots. Like real world stuff! Awesome work
I'm brand new to DaVinci Resolve. I'm an educator at a medical school and I found this tutorial to be absolutely outstanding. He gives a tremendous amount of information, that can be replayed as necessary to absorb!
HAHAHA!!! I love how you congratulate yourself on that intro! Well done; it was hilarious!
Crash courses are something that many folks try, very few ones nails. This one really brings a bird's eye of Resolve, in a hurry but not messy way. You really know your shit, dude! Congrats!
The Group clips to add a node to the whole timeline saved my life today. Thanks a million Casey!

Oh, and thank you to the creator of this video for making it. Subscribed.
still no idea why this program will refuse to import some of my mp4 files and not others
I'm a complete beginner and have this problem with HitFilm.
gotta try this
Did someone tell you, you are genius! I have been trying to learn learning da Vinci for a long time but never got started because tutorials are usually never indepth and takes a lot for granted which can stop a learner on the tracks. Great video, and thanks so much!
No more Blender for me, I love this Editor!

If you can't track something, un-check 3D under track
Just started using DaVinci resolve and this is hands down the best video I've seen explaining the software. Thank you so much!
When I drag my clips I don't see the picture or sound waves just blue and green bars? Please help
SAME HERE!! HELP
There is a "timeline viewing options" button left to the timeline zoom option. Click that and select the one you like.
It will also take some time to load the timeline so don't fiddle with the stuff all the time because it will start the loading again.
TheJere213 I gave up and bought a macbook for Imovie
good looks

same problem
King Braunie use audacity and switch the file type to .WAVE
2pumpedupforu thanks
you know there is something about your voice that is so entertaining and it makes me want to watch even more
How do you import a MP4 file?
I don't understand the point of this "video editor" I recorded a bunch of clips in CS:GO using Shadow Play, and I can't select any of the videos. This editor sucks, doesn't even work with MP4 files...
You need to have QuickTime installed to import anything.
Yuriy K even if you have quicktime you cant import MP4 files
You just import them. Not understanding how people are not able to import MP4. I am and I am on a Mac and MP4s are more compatible with PCs so...yeah.
You are probably in the timeline setting. Make sure you are in a "media" bin. Create a new bin and drag it in.
You do an incredible job of laying this out simply - can't wait to get colouring!
What are LUTs. I am a beginner. This is not for beginners.
www.groundcontrolcolor.com/lut-guide.html
I've got a pair of em Bro.
having to go from working on premier pro to resolve because I've moved computers and work and this quick crash course has definitely helped me, can't wait to start working on resolve now
Casey, you talk very fast. It;s almost like my brain is downloading...
Mark Kangas He also talks very clearly and concise. Even me (not native English speaker) can understand him clearly.
I really appreciate the fast talking. I get _so_ impatient watching most instructional videos. If something goes past too fast, I can always repeat, but when people talk too slow there's no easy way to speed it up.
Very nice Casey! Straight to the point.. fast speech.. perfect!!
Wow...you are amazing, 32 minutes and you got in more than any professor in an entire semester. Not only that you never messed up.
Amazing tutorial, great presentation. Now I finally understood why people say Davinci is the king of grading. Thanks!
Hey Casey, this is good. I've been a pro still photographer for 32 years but this is my first foray into video. I was a bit lost but, using this video as my stable-datum, I'm found! Thanks for going slowly and using small words so that I could follow easily. I appreciate you.
Wow! This program does stuff I would never have even thought to do on a video! Mind is blown! Thanks so much for taking us through the features!
Great stuff, thanks! We're slowly moving from SpeedGrade (RIP) to Resolve and you've been my number 1 source of information getting to know the software. Informative, concise and entertaining.

My ADHD and I thank you for the perfect tutorial. Nice work Casey!
Thanks so much for the crash course, and the other free tools! Much, much appreciated!
Great intro! To the point and with no useless chatter in-between!
As usual, Casey, your video was concise, well thought out with a great delivery style. Well done.
Great video to see what it can do compared to Video Studio. No time wasted, you get into and out of each point rapidly. Very talented!
Great Job. Loved the thoroughness and the pace at which you delivered it. For a professional editor needing a quick intro it was perfect. Looks like I might be shifting over to Resolve.
Was giving up on DaVinci Resolve yesterday. Motivated to play with it a bit more now. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I was clueless about how to edit on this because I downloaded it about 10 min ago and after watching this, my video is edited and I am happy.
Thank you saved me a lot of time trying to browse videos for an actual working one
This is an excellent overview. Thanks for putting this together!
Excellent intro. I look forward to checking out your other videos on DaVinci
OMG that's literally the first really good all in all tutorial for resolve
Thank you! This is a great tutorial for beginners with just about the right amount of depth and tips and tricks to get one started. It saved me a lot of time!
Killin it with the overview! Feels like I can hit the ground running with this video. Looking forward to learning more from your Color Grading video.
Great tutorial! I downloaded this program after getting frustrated with how lousy iMovie is.... this has so many options but is a great FREE program to use. It inspires me to make my own little movies. Thanks again for doing this.
Clear, fast and freakin' awesome! I would've wanted more information on LUTs though. Thanks a lot for taking the time! :D
Casey.... Your a legend... Definetely the 'Andrew Kramer' of the Color World!
Excellent video and great instruction. Your explanations and speed of delivery is perfect. Nice work. Thank you.
Casey, Thanks for the straight ahead demo of 12.5. I will definitely checkout your NODES video and the Premiere to Resolve.
You are the man Casey! Thanks so much for the updated tutorials.
Day one of Resolve and this video has helped me immensely. Thank you.
Great tutorial. To the point. Good rhythm. I didn't get bored! :) Thanks!!!
Brillant Video for beginners. Only Thing missing: the "Use optimized media" setting. That allows users with non-workstation-pc to edit 4K footage smoothly. But you explain that in another video. Thanks for your great help and inspiration.
Excellent teaching! You're very clear and on-topic constantly.
Fantastic overview, you've definitely inspired me to make some stuff with Davinci Resolve! I hope my PC will be powerful enough...
Oh man thanks so much. I was banging head to desk wondering how to adjust speed so it's consistant through out the clip.
Thanks, although I have been using Resolve for awhile I learned a few things. I learned where the wheel is for a quick warming or cooling of a clip on 12.5. Keep up the good work. Gerry in Calgary
Thanks for the video! I probably won't use half of what we reviewed in the video - but I watched it all anyway because you make it interesting!
Thanks Casey! great tutorial. Also, I was a little frustrated with my edit and your sense of humor lightened up my mood big time ;-)
Fantastic and Precise! Thank you Casey Faris! In the middle of an ad-film grade and this helped a lot!!
Great intro. Gets me started and gives me lots of stuff to experiment with. Absolutely amazing features ... Thanks again

Fucking amazing. This is honestly one of the best introductory tutorials I've ever seen for a program.
You are doing a wonderful job by giving Knowledge many thanks
Great reference! I'm brand new to Resolve and am going to start playing around with it.

you are a saint, casey. thank you for changing my life.
Great stuff, you did not mention the use of optimized media, that helps a lot when editing on a lower spec computer
Yep optimized media is great. I have a separate tut for that.
Thanks for the great training.
Excellent information, and great pace too! Thanks.
Thank you for the amazing starter tutorial long as hell but im ready now
wow you got me started in a fast efficient way. Fantastic way of teaching beginners.
