My concern is that they did not react to the actual gravity of the situation. They were "nice" enough to talk him out of murder, but to me, that says something far more scary. If they didn't understand (or care about) how extreme the situation was, then it leads me to believe that they could be talked into it by the vocalist.

I knew a fellow guitarist about 15 years ago who was a seriously talented guy, an amazing player. Met him randomly one day at a local music shop, and it turned out we liked a lot of the same stuff and a couple of weeks later we hung out, jammed, and had a great time. The next time after that, I couldn't host at my place because of my then roommate's work/sleep schedule, but my new friend invited me over to his place. Turned out, I was an acquaintance of his roommate, a woman who I'd gone to university with a few years earlier. We had a quick hello, caught up for a second, and then she went out. Me and buddy jammed, had a productive writing session, and I went home. The very next day, in the evening, the guy called me up, and within about three seconds of me saying, "Hey man", he threatened to kill me for the transgression of making his roommate laugh, and for "flirting" with her. He was a pyscho all along, but he didn't see me as a threat in any way since our only connection was music, something at which we were equally talented, and enthused by. To be clear, he had zero romantic involvement with my university friend, but harbored a wild, possessive delusion that she was his wife, or some bullshit. His threats were enough for me to hang up and straight up call the cops on his ass. He was dumb enough to forget I knew his address, I guess. I never heard from him again, but my old friend, his roommate, told a few days later (she called me) that she had to have her landlord evict him because he went nuts after the cops visited and he destroyed his bedroom, and then apparently cried for hours. Dude was totally unstable. Anyway, you have to protect yourself, and be proactive when you receive threats. If someone threatens your life, get the fuck outta there and call the cops.

Alex is great guy, great musician; can't believe he didn't standup on your behalf. I wonder if there are similar situations that you might not be aware of or even part of. Your band mates should NOT have kept it from you, and some form of law enforcement should have been contacted at the very least! Glad you're back home safe dude! You never know what other people are scheming behind their eyes or facial expressions that contradict their true thoughts. I do personally believe that just about anybody (circumstances and context depending) should have a chance to be a friend or be in your life, UNTIL they prove otherwise as we have just been told. The beauty of UA-cam and the internet, and social media in general is that we as musicians can create remotely without worry of being harmed or being in situations that make us uneasy or uncomfortable. Touring with strangers is almost always more trouble than it's worth, I have friends and friends of friends who have been in terrible situations while filling in or joining bands right before a tour. Getting manipulated, slowly being robbed while completely unaware, getting instruments destroyed, or just straight up left on the other side of the country.

I've had a slightly similar situation last year where my life was threatened by a bunch of people on the internet over a meme. Without going into too much detail about my event because what's important is that you're safe now for the time being, i understand the fear of having to be on guard because my life was threatened over something minor. Just to be on the safe side bud, don't hesitate to carry with you any place that legally allows it just in case something does happen. It's always better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. I, as well as hopefully everybody watching, want you to be alright. i my self was victim of similar situation... but it was happened so fast, this dude was one of my team, but one day i was assigned to other project and he was feels like i was ignore him... somehow this dude getting angry and keep dreaming he beat me up, he tell to his friend about that... and one day this dude beat me up with iron bar.. lucky enough i was safe.... Keep safe broo... many sick people out there..
i faced the same 8 or 9 years back....but in my case it was a bassist....so i got off the train midway with my gear and got back home...in fact a few years later to that event we crossed paths and he tried to push me in front of a car not knowing that i was trained in self defense....i understand how u feel man, i've been there and we are roughly the same age....also u have done the right thing, we surely dont need these type of people near us.

My concern is that they did not react to the actual gravity of the situation. They were "nice" enough to talk him out of murder, but to me, that says something far more scary. I knew a fellow guitarist about 15 years ago who was a seriously talented guy, an amazing player. Met him randomly one day at a local music shop, and it turned out we liked a lot of the same stuff and a couple of weeks later we hung out, jammed, and had a great time.
The next time after that, I couldn't host at my place because of my then roommate's work/sleep schedule, but my new friend invited me over to his place.
Turned out, I was an acquaintance of his roommate, a woman who I'd gone to university with a few years earlier. We had a quick hello, caught up for a second, and then she went out. Me and buddy jammed, had a productive writing session, and I went home.
The very next day, in the evening, the guy called me up, and within about three seconds of me saying, "Hey man", he threatened to kill me for the transgression of making his roommate laugh, and for "flirting" with her.
He was a pyscho all along, but he didn't see me as a threat in any way since our only connection was music, something at which we were equally talented, and enthused by.
To be clear, he had zero romantic involvement with my university friend, but harbored a wild, possessive delusion that she was his wife, or some bullshit.
His threats were enough for me to hang up and straight up call the cops on his ass. He was dumb enough to forget I knew his address, I guess.
I never heard from him again, but my old friend, his roommate, told a few days later (she called me) that she had to have her landlord evict him because he went nuts after the cops visited and he destroyed his bedroom, and then apparently cried for hours. Dude was totally unstable.
Anyway, you have to protect yourself, and be proactive when you receive threats. If someone threatens your life, get the fuck outta there and call the cops.

This is wild. I've known Alex Mena for years, I don't personally know the other band members, but there has always been "rumors" about that lead singer. Alex is great guy, great musician; can't believe he didn't standup on your behalf. I wonder if there are similar situations that you might not be aware of or even part of. Because they'd rather be bystanders, keep it amongst themselves and not say anything because their status in the band is lower than the vocalist himself. In other words, they are afraid to confront him of his well-being and his status in the band.
I know the bassist personally. The behavior to keep it among the 4 of them and exclude Ray from knowing within a 2 week window is shady, disgusting and downright assholeish.

I do personally believe that just about anybody (circumstances and context depending) should have a chance to be a friend or be in your life, UNTIL they prove otherwise as we have just been told. Touring with strangers is almost always more trouble than it's worth, I have friends and friends of friends who have been in terrible situations while filling in or joining bands right before a tour. Getting manipulated, slowly being robbed while completely unaware, getting instruments destroyed, or just straight up left on the other side of the country.

I've had a slightly similar situation last year where my life was threatened by a bunch of people on the internet over a meme. Without going into too much detail about my event because what's important is that you're safe now for the time being, i understand the fear of having to be on guard because my life was threatened over something minor.
Just to be on the safe side bud, don't hesitate to carry with you any place that legally allows it just in case something does happen. It's always better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. I, as well as hopefully everybody watching, want you to be alright. I'm sure you're able to handle yourself man, i definitely know that you're a strong enough dude to be able to handle yourself, but just please be careful.

i my self was victim of similar situation... but it was happened so fast, this dude was one of my team, but one day i was assigned to other project and he was feels like i was ignore him... somehow this dude getting angry and keep dreaming he beat me up, he tell to his friend about that... and one day this dude beat me up with iron bar.. lucky enough i was safe....

i faced the same 8 or 9 years back....but in my case it was a bassist....so i got off the train midway with my gear and got back home...in fact a few years later to that event we crossed paths and he tried to push me in front of a car not knowing that i was trained in self defense....i understand how u feel man, i've been there and we are roughly the same age....also u have done the right thing, we surely dont need these type of people near us.
For me the worst part is that no one did anything. Your bandmates knew and did nothing, other people close to the band knew he was a hothead but just played this off as "dont worry abt it".

Glad you’re okay brother. It’s a huge deal threatening someone’s life. It sounded like he actually meant it at the time. If someone says, “I was so mad I wanted to kill you,” I could see that being kinda blown off (still serious and would need to be addressed of course). But when someone says, “I was so pissed I actually planned to kill you but these guys talked me out of it,” is waaaaay more dangerous imo. Actually coming it with a plan speaks to a mindset. And having to be talked out of it speaks to an even higher level of desire to do it-enough so that I, like you, would’ve feared the thought wasn’t completely gone. Feels like you definitely did the only thing you could do which was get yourself safely out of that situation.
