Your commentary on Cartman's attachment to his toys is very insightful. They represent the one thing he craves in life: a loving connection. He is most definitely neglected by his mother. She sets very poor boundaries and lets him get away with negative behaviors in a quest to make up for her emotional distance.
The reason she wants Eric to be her friend is that being a real mother scares her. Being a real mother means she will have to bond with Eric, and show him real love. Sadly, Eric senses her reluctance to bond with him, and he feels lonely and unlovable. I think a big part of the reason he picks on Kyle is to get the attention he lacks at home.
Bonding, or caring about someone while they also care for you, scares Eric's mother. That's why she only has physical relationships with men, because there's no emotional connection required. Instead of bonding with Eric, she chooses to overfeed him with food and material things. She lies to herself that expensive presents and a lack of consequences will make Eric happy, when in reality, the opposite is true. Eric craves boundaries, and, yes, even consequences. Because these are the things that show a child he or she is loved. They show a child the parent is emotionally invested. All Cartman really wants is for his mom to be emotionally invested in him. It's actually very sad. Again, great observation.
Half of your comment is spot on. Eric craves all that ultimately. But it's the opposite with Liane: she does show him affection. Too much of it to the point she cannot set a healthy boundary. When she tries, she meets refusal and Cartman's worst, angry side, so she cowers back to the safety of having "a friend". In the episode with Cesar Millán this is put black on white. And the super sad ending is everything was for naught and Cartman reverts to his old true self. A missed opportunity, his last shot as a normal human being.

About Eric and Kyle is true, when Kyle move on to San Francisco, Eric found out that pick on Butters was not the same than Kyle. He even save Kyle. Man I really get sad think how a bad parent can destroy one life, than can destroy another and another, etc etc

I was watching the episode of "Damien" and Pip said something that might explain the development of Cartman being an asshole.
When Damien asked if Pip was always hated he said yes, and proceeded to explain that Cartman used to be a target for bullying but kids liked him when he started to bully Pip.
Taking this in consideration and the reason behind Scott's parents murder (revenge due humiliation and harassment) I can conclude the following:
Cartman was once a victim, inferior to others, and learned that if he wanted to get respect he would have to harm and humiliate others.
Since when was Cartman bullied? Was it by Scott Tenorman or something?

@@Noname-fb1mm if you look at earlier seasons(1-3) Cartman is more innocent and gullible, whereas Stan and Kyle are actually crueler. Cartman is more of a little brat than the severely mentally ill sociopath we have today. It's usually Stan and Kyle that bully Cartman, with Cartman eventually dealing back insults. Scott Tenorman is basically, in the words of a Reddit post I found, a manifestation of all the bullshit Cartman endured for the first 5 seasons. Then Cartman learns after what he does to the Tenormans that he can get revenge on people who upset him and he can get away with it. After this he becomes more sadistic and manipulative. So that's kind of what I thought partially caused Cartman's behaviour.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker have affectionately created the worst person in fictional history. He's an impossible exaggeration of the worst parts of humanity with absolutely no redeeming qualities that is so absurd that we can't help but laugh at it.

All Psychopaths/Sociopaths are narcissists but not all narcissists are Psychopaths/Sociopaths . The Creators did an AMAZING job projecting Cartman's psychopathic personality, take away all the comedic elements and yup, you'll see it clearly.
Wrong. While all three (sociopathy, psychopathy and narcissism) share some common ground (like a lack of empathy) sociopathy and psychopathy are not the same and neither is inherently tied to the inflated sense of self importance that is the core of narcissism.

@AlibabaJackson Yeah its true, Sociopathy (ASPD) and Narcissism (NPD) are in the same Cluster in DSM (Cluster B) that affects relationships with others and the relationship with self, they are similar in the lack of empathy but they are not the same, theyre different diagnosis
There is a great character analysis that someone did on reddit by someone called "nooksickle". It completely changed how I view cartman and I feel kinda bad for him. If you guys are loosers like me and enjoy overanalysing cartoon characters then this is a good thread to read. I'll copy and paste it for you guys to read.
" _Let's start at the beginning of the series. When you watch early seasons, you'll notice that Cartman actually isn't the instigator of the insults. In later seasons we often see him as the bully, the one calling Kyle a Jew, calling Butters a pussy, insulting Kenny's family, etc, but in the first few seasons, he's actually the victim. Kyle is actually more of a bully early on, often insulting Cartman's weight without getting any flack back. (Re-watching some old episodes surprised me how often it's Kyle whose the jackass, with Cartman saying little more than "Hey!" or "screw you guys" to defend himself.) During this time, his mom is also largely addicted to crack and is the town's prostitute. We can tell she's more than just a whore for comments like, "Freebie next week!" (From the Tooth Fairy Tats ep). Now, the boys, as well as many others in town, including adults make comments and jokes about this. Cartman is very aware of his mom's addiction and her profession. So we have an overweight boy who is constantly mocked and ridiculed for his weight, who doesn't fight back, who sees his mom being used and made fun of by kids and adults, as well as lives in a home environment where he can get away with anything. (Even in the early seasons we see how Liane spoils him with food and lots of presents, such as buying him a top of the line trapper keeper, and then replacing it immediately after he says he "lost it.")
Then we hit "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut" where the entire town becomes involved in finding out who Cartman's real father is. In the two episodes, Cartman is really just a boy searching for a father. All the while his family is mocked by the whole town, and in the end the answer Cartman gets is his mom is his dad, as she is a hermaphrodite and impregnated herself (which later in the series we discover is a lie that the town told Cartman to cover up the fact that his father is a married man, Jack Tenorman, with a wife and son, in order to protect Jack's career as a Denver Bronco.) Consider this: your entire town, including your mother, lies to you about your father, in order to protect his "real" family, and the lie itself is so degrading and humiliating that you don't even want to speak about it afterwards. What would that do to a person? For Cartman, it seriously destroys any bit of empathy he has left.
In the seasons after, we see a real degradation of Cartman's character. He is no longer just "taking" the abuse from the other kids-- now he's dishing back. We see him becoming more and more of an asshole, stemming from responding to insults with insults to just straight on attacking people with little provocation. Still, he's not really "evil," just severally maltreated and responding to that treatment.
Then we have Scott Tenorman. Scott essentially embodies all the bullshit that Cartman has endured. Cartman has long wanted to be seen as more mature, intelligent, or older. It partly goes back to being belittled all the time by his peers, in response he tries to be seen as special or different in order to elevate himself and make his peers see him differently. Scott preys on this by selling Cartman his pubes for 10$, convincing him that this means he's hit "puberty." When Cartman is told by the guys that obviously this isn't true, Cartman is determined to get his money back in an attempt to save face. But with each attempt, he loses more ground. Scott insults his weight, insults his mother, takes more of his money, and publicly humiliates him through his "I'm a little piggy" show, all of which are huge triggers for Cartman. Ultimately, this is his breaking point. He is desperate to save face and get even. And growing up in an environment with a transient mother with no boundaries, Cartman has no sense of what's too far. Then, after Cartman kills Scott's parents, he is never punished, mostly due to South Park's crappy police and the fact that it's a fucking cartoon, which cements this idea in his head. Not only can he meet his own needs through violence, but he can get away with it too.
After Cartman kills the Tenormans, we see the complete transformation of his character into what most people recognize him as today: a bully, a sociopath, evil, and completely self-absorbed. It might be easy to try to call mental illness on Cartman, but there's a lot of evidence to support his transformation as completely a result of Nurture. Cartman is the way he is because he literally had no one to depend on before this. Even his other mother was too wrapped up in drugs and sex to worry about what was going on in his life. Out of necessity he becomes completely self-absorbed, because no one else has ever cared about his needs. Post season 5, he is completely psychopathic. Early after, we see him being mean for mean's sake, but later on, around season 10, we see him start to internalize what he's been saying. Suddenly his bigoted comments are no longer being screamed, they're used in rational discussions. By Season 13's Fatbeard, we have Cartman calmly stating over the PA that Jews, gingers and Mexicans cannot be pirates. There's lots of examples of the kids trying to debate Cartman's racist views, where he just simply doesn't understand where they're coming from, mostly to show how far he's internalized the views. We also see how far his warped reality stretches in episodes like Fishsticks, where he literally alters his memories in order to view himself as the hero. This distorted reality comes back to his defense mechanisms-- in order to survive constant abuse from adults and peers alike, Cartman created a reality in his head where he's the good guy, and now it's the only way that he can get through life. Unfortunately, it also blinds him to valid criticisms of his behaviour.
Now, around season 10 we notice a change in Liane as well. She's no longer hooked on drugs, she's no longer a prostitute, though she still spoils her son relentlessly. Still, she is attempting to become a better mother. In Tsst, she hires Cesar Millan to get Cartman's behaviour under control, and it works for a bit. Cartman starts to straighten up during that episode, relapsing when Liane does when she goes back to giving into his demands. Despite that, we've seen more responsible behaviour from her in later seasons, such as in season 15's Humancentipad, where she holds firm on not buying him an iPad after he tantrums in the store, which shows promise for her. In that episode we see Cartman morphing his usual manipulative behaviour, going from the sweet son to almost blackmailing her, which shows his desperation to get her to back down on her decision. Despite that, she holds firm, and as her lack of boundaries was a huge cause for Cartman to act out in the first place, when she holds firm we see a change in Cartman. The last few seasons have seen a serious deescalation of Cartman's serious acting out. In season 20, he's got a girlfriend, is seemingly against the harassment by skankhunt42, and works with Heidi to do good like organizing the school to bake danishes for Denmark.
Could it be that because things at home have finally stabilized and he's no longer being ridiculed as often, he hasn't had to rely on negative coping skills (delusions and hostility) to survive? Yeah, he's got his issues still, as we can see in season 21's Put It Down, where Cartman tries to convince everyone Heidi is mentally abusive, but that can even be tied back to being exposed to his mom's prostitution and having warped ideas of what a healthy relationship should look like._"

Tbh, it really isn’t great. While it gave fair reasoning and interpretation in the beginning, his/her whole argument largely goes to shit. I’d say it fell apart in the “After he kills the Tenormans...” paragraph. Now I’m going to highlight what I find most wrong with it.

First, never is it COMPLETELY nurture. The child we saw in the beginning of the series was already cruel (how eager he was to bully Pip gives me bad vibes), temperamental, and generally a prick. Sure, with better past he wouldn’t be anywhere near as fucked up as he is now. But I think some of those Season 1 traits would be there today no matter what. Second, this guy is saying that you must be born with it to be mentally ill, which even *I* know damn well isn’t the case. Mental illness is often VERY environmental. Come on. That’s a whole thing about sociopaths-they’re made.
Then, his thing about his mother. About how she’d stopped being a drug-addicted prostitute around Season 10? Yeah, the canon video games The Stick of Truth (you see drugs in Liane’s bedroom) and The Fractured But Whole (there’s a whole side thing with her prostitution that ends with Cartman WALKING IN ON her with two poorly-dressed prostitutes and a dead pimp) disagree. However, even TFBW implies she’d been cutting back a bit, so I do agree that it’s not as bad as it was in the first few seasons. And as for her growing a spine in Season 14/15, sigh. I’ve never liked that popular argument. Redditor cites that Liane didn’t give in in “HumanCentiPad”. Yeah, is that the same spine she used while giving Cartman presents on Stan’s birthday in “You’re Getting Old” in the same season? The same one she used while Liane literally watched Cartman make a woman kill herself for petty reasons in “T.MI”, still in S15? Yeah, she can go fuck herself with that “spine”.
Then the thing with Cartman supposedly getting better himself around seasons 16-19. (I’ll address 20 next, ‘cause that’s a whole different shithole.) Yes, Cartman temporarily drops his antagonistic role around those times. However, he really doesn’t show much moral or mental improvement imo. To me, the guy I see in those seasons is the same insane and evil person, different role. Basically, I disagree.
TL;DR Cartman IS mentally unstable, he HASN’T improved a lot, and his relationship with Heidi was built on narcissism as SPECIFICALLY cited by the maker of this vid.
My conclusion? Good start to the argument, but the argument in itself is pure armchair psychology bullshit. Oh, and please take my criticisms at face value. I’m no psychologist myself; not even old enough to be a high school graduate yet. I just, like you, obsess over the psychology of this mock paper cutout. And because of that and an interest in psychology in general, I do my research on this stuff. I just really don’t like how praised and taken seriously that “analysis” is, so I just want to add a little sanity where I can. :)

I forgot to mention this but this analysis was written in 2017, when season 21 just began so things like Heidi's relationship with cartman and TFBW weren't completely fleshed out/just released and that's why there's alot missing from this analysis.
As for your comment about how cartman was cruel to pip in the earlier seasons, I think you're right but there's another good comment on this video that explains this pretty well. There's an episode in season one called "Damien" and there's a scene where Damien asks pip if he has always been bullied by the other kids. pip says yes but also says that cartman used to be bullied but kids started to like him when he started ripping on pip. If you take this into consideration it seems as if the bulling he does is some sort of defense mechanism to stop himself from being prayed on by others.
As for heidi and cartman relationship, not much to ague there but pretty much agree with what you are saying, though the Turing point for me was when cartman started to think that heidi was going to screw him over after what butters told him in space x. Maybe that's why he started to view himself as the victim despite all the horrible stuff he does to her, in his mind she's playing him while in reality it's the other way round. It kinda sucks cause I think there's an interesting dynamic between heidi and cartman that the writers could've explored. She could've been used as a tool to develop his character a little but oh well.

There are a few issues with this which I'll highlight.

Few problems here. First off, Cartman bullied Pip because it made his life easier. Pip himself described this. Cartman was just like him and was being bullied by everyone until he himself started bullying Pip, which made him cool in the other kids' book. He continued after knowing this.
Cartman in early seasons was an asshole, but he was not nearly close to the monster he becomes later on.
As for the whole mental illness, yeah that bit is off, but that isn't too major.

Cartman is my fav character of any show, of all time. I have such a huge cartman merchandise collection, my room looks like south park vomited in it lol. This was a great breakdown! I can appreciate someone who takes in the full depth of this show and actually looks at the characters from a psychological standpoint. I’d say the only thing that I would feel differently about is Cartmans lack of empathy. We know he’s a great liar, and he never wants to be seen as vulnerable. So it’s natural for him to lie when things emotionally effect him. Also he is one of the only characters in the whole show to consciously be aware of Kenny’s deaths, so it doesn’t impact him as much when he knows he will return the following morning. When you brought up the episode where he found out he killed his father, I definitely feel he was genuinely upset. But just like he will lie in an attempt to gain sympathy, he will also lie to hide his vulnerability. He loves to have control of every situation, so we can assume he isn’t always the most reliable source when it comes to his truth. When he has tourette’s and slipped up about crying at night because he doesn’t have a dad; when he saw stan crying in pandemic special and returned the pangolin; when he saved all of the cats in the cheesing episode- deep down he is guilt ridden and empathetic. but with his trust for others so torn down by the incessant bullying and lack of respect from the other characters, he would never want that to be obvious. It’s very interesting to watch him grow into himself with every season, and who knows, maybe one day he will grow into his truest self

Cartman is definitely one of the more intriguing characters in my opinion he does such outrageous things it's honestly unbelievable at the lengths he goes to get what he wants.
Cartman is the main reason i enjoy south park, if there's no eric cartman, there's no south park, even the cartman haters has to agree with that one, cartman is south park no matter what people say.
I sort of agree, the show doesn’t necessarily revolve around him. The 4 boys are all main characters. While Cartman is most of the comedy, and plots of the episodes. South park could still exist without him, probably not as big, but still.

We can't really pin ALL the blame on Cartman's mom, she at least TRIES to make him behave and listen. There's been moments where she's put her foot down. She's not doing this on purpose, she just doesn't know how to keep Cartman disciplined. She's a constant victim of Cartman's manipulation tactics.
I personally do not pin all the blame on Cartman’s mother, only because Cartman is responsible for his own actions and any sort/level of child abuse doesn’t create someone as awful as Cartman, but I disagree with most of what you argue here.
-There’s been moments where she’s put her foot down. Yes, but the bulk of those times were in a half-assed attempt to keep her own reputation, and even then it’s *extremely* rare. We can pretty much count the amount of times she’s put her foot down on a hand.
-She’s not doing this on purpose. Ugh, one of my least favorite things about her is that she *is* doing the shit she does on purpose, and for very selfish reasons at that. Just look at Tsst again, where she spends the entire episode learning what she needs to do to raise a normal child, so she DOES know how to keep him disciplined. Then all because she’s butthurt about Cesar not dating her and being alone again, she deliberately goes back to her bullshit. I hate the notion that she’s not doing it on purpose.

The only occasions are 1) Up the Down Steroid, which I actually will give her a pass as a person for. But the other is in the Coon and Friends trilogy (I forget the exact ep), and the very way Cartman “manipulates” her is by asking her how he can make things right. If Liane just wanted to communicate with her child she would never have been “manipulated” there.

I love your insight into Eric, but I need to point out one thing. Eric has shown that he can behave and do nice things for others on several occasions.
This indicates that Eric knows how to behave and knows that alot of what he does is not right,so why does he act so badly?
Simple, his bad behavior is rewarded. Case in point, Cartman wins an essay contest and gets to be on TV with Kathie Lee Wendy figures out that Eric put his name on a famous work.
When she tells Mr. Garrison and the boys about the Obvious cheating, but its told that she was being jealous. Eric got what he wanted, only to have it taken from him by Garrison and Mr Hat trying to kill Kathie Lee.
Also, alot of his behavior is because the adults around him behave more like children than adults.

Cartman embodies the seven deadly sins.
Pride: Views himself as better than everyone and refuses to admit when he’s done wrong. He also brags about how awesome he is and rubs his successes in everyone’s faces.
Gluttony: likes to eat and drink more than is healthy for a person of his age
Wrath: prone to anger and is quick to take extreme revenge in response to slights
Sloth: chooses to sit on his butt eating food and playing video games, rather than doing anything productive. He also neglects his schoolwork, forcing others to do it for him.
Greed: wants more (be that money or food) for himself and does anything to get it
Envy: jealous when someone gets something that he wants, be that success or a video game
Lust: wants to be with Heidi, because she makes him feel better about himself, not because he really loves her.
I feel that cartmans got a bit more empathetic in the later seasons even one of the new episodes we can see he has empathy for his friend stans feelings. In one of the new episodes he leaves the pengalin alone sacrificing his break from school and letting stan have his normal life back only for it to be crushed by the president in a moment's notice. So we'll see if he changes from that experience or remains the same thinking what's the point of helping others if it doesn't even matter and that progress is going to be crushed in a moment's notice. What a sad character.
Why is the background music so loud?
I like Cartman sometimes, but I honestly think he needs a break from his villain role and his hate relationship with Kyle and go back to his spoiled brat personality. It's getting really overused and predictable. Same with the Kenny dying jokes.
Are you watching Season 5 or something? Kenny has died about 4 times the past 5 years.

i know a kid like this that i went to school with when i was younger his name was cameron though not cartmen his middle name eric and his mum was also called liane but i think it was different spelling he would make fun of every one gay's, lesbians, disabled, people with learning difficulties when ever he got in trouble for stuff he said at school he thought it was just the teachers being funny with him and although he would often bully people to the point of tears he was always really sensitive about his weight and would get really defensive about it the similarities between him and cartmen are unreal

Your narrating is good but lord almighty please, tone down the music and change it to less agressive tracks that divide the attention of the listener/viewer between what you are saying and the music. Use more somber and quiet music which goes -with- what you say, rather than against it.

Man, I only left disley(change for like) because the sound really disturbs the video, but I loved the video. Even in the video he says that because Liane doesn't pay attention to Eric, this can explain why he has such a strong connection with objects (ex dolls), my father almost never paid attention to me and my mother gave too much, maybe that would explain why I love cats so much and not people.

As you know When ya edit videos its not easy man and takes alot if time and effort which ppl don't see this side of it. As a UA-camr you gota edit it, check it for copyright strikes, record, use audio and speak and upload it which takes time depending on video length etc ppl dont see this side of editing who dont have a yt channel its quite a bit of work.

Both being egotistic, self-centered pieces of shit who grew up with terrible parents and treat their spouse like trash.
