    I use to work at a State Park & always heard creepy sounds when leaving at night..The park rangers always told us to stay away from the waterfall area at a certain time..honsetly what scared me even more is the doors to the main building I worked in were automatic doors..

      Honestly I have no idea why they would tell us to stay away from the waterfall area after dark. We have always had this story of "werewolf springs" apparently it runs right to the waterfall area. So yeah I assume that's why, just old stories sticking til this day.

    It's very strange to call someone an "accomplished killer." Accomplished has a positive connotation, so it sounds like the killer is being admired. 😒

    • @_jms430
      @_jms430 9 місяців тому

      @@Curiouserandcuriouser90If you want to get technical. Instead let’s be real, the word ‘accomplished’ is used in a positive light 99.9% of the time. So I agree with OP. To say they are an ‘accomplished’ piano player is the same as saying they are great at playing piano. ‘He is great at murdering,’ is the same as praising the murderer. Don’t tell me the word ‘accomplished’ isn’t something to be admired.

    • @7ebr830
      @7ebr830 4 місяці тому

      Actually, "accomplished" means highly skilled. Therefore, an accomplished murderer is a highly skilled one. There is no connotation of admiration except for that you yourself invest in the word.
      The other person is also wrong. An accomplished pianist is a highly skilled pianist. Of course, many people admire such gifted musicians. However, how do you then explain a common expression, "an accomplished liar?"

    • @kathryncumberland
      @kathryncumberland 4 місяці тому

      @@7ebr830 I see where you're coming from, as "highly skilled" is definitely one of the definitions of "accomplished." But in speaking to connotation rather than definition, I think even "highly skilled" has a positive connotation. When Merriam-Webster provides the synonyms for "accomplished" (as an adjective, as we're using it, of course), they are also words which one would typically view as positive, such as "masterful" and "gifted" and, yes - even "good" and "great."
      Also, connotation is suggested by the word itself, not invested in that word by the reader. It is an implication rather than an inference. I think we'd be hard-pressed to find many educational sources that don't place "accomplished" in the positive connotational category.

      Oxford Dictionary of English.
      Cambridge Dictionary.
      The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.
      On the other hand, I believe that "an accomplished liar," as a specific instance of the generic form "an accomplished [negative trait]," renders further debate obsolete.
      If I ever transitioned from English Teacher to Plenary Planetary Dictator, one of my first acts would be to hunt down and destroy every deplorable copy of Merriam-Webster. 😠 That "dictionary" has done more to destroy the English language than all the neologist contributions of every slack-jawed teenager over the past three centuries.
