Hi Ro Bro interesting as always Few tips: 1. Fix a camera on Co pilots, wing mirror 2. Roof mounted lights :If the rig is white color mount the lights away from the wind screen recommend middle section of the 4x4 3. Reverse camera + led light card ( 8x 4 cm = 2 units) Gives better night reversing abilities 4.led light cards on both sides towards the end part of your 4x4 helps too cheers
Nice. I need to get me a roof mounted light bar for my Toyota. I have two spotties and two flood lights on the ARB bumper, but that high mounted light just does the job.
Great vid Ronnie again! Just an update. Roof light covers now depend on who pulls you over. The latest feedback I've now had was that the wiring needs to be disconnected when on the road so have a pull apart harness I guess that means. But as a Chartered Accountant my education suggests I add the disclaimer that I have not read this in any official WAPOL etc literature as I was only told this by one of the boys in blue (a client).
Dude your videos are so much better now mate as Michael yapp stated. They are good quality and very helpful and digging the hair mate. and not sure but where can I get max trax clips to hold them on my roof of my patrol
Rock lights (or lights underneath) are a night crawlers best friend. 2 up front, 2 just behind your steer tires and 2 just in front of your drive tires
Maybe some police style spot lights on my front pillars may beneficial after all. I'll be doing a lot of beach driving this summer. Sides are something I haven't done yet. My LED headlights and 22 inch light bar put out a lot of light though.
Hey Ronine, another great video by you guys love them all, just letting you know be careful with where and when you fly your drone some cases it's illegal and I know you wouldn't want casa to send a fine. Cheers
would have to be the modified video on the 105 series landcruiser. it has shown me a lot of mods i can look forward to getting for my own to make it an absolute off road/touring weapon!
thanks Michael Yapp My lights are bolted to the roof-rack and the wiring travels from the battery to under the vehicle then up the back of the cab to the roof rack. You can also use the many grommets throughout the vehicle to run the wires. Without a roof rack you could get some roof cargo bars with mount to the roof gutter of most vehicles, I would strongly advise against drilling holes in the roof.
Hey Ronny, Just wondering, is Brian's LED conversion just a straight bulb swap from halogen to LED? AFAIK, LED/HID conversions aren't ADR approved unless they have washers and levelers (in NSW at least, not sure if it's the same in WA). I hate the lack of brightness from halogens and I've ruled out retrofitting HID's for defect/legal reasons (and doing it legally is way too expensive), but I'm wondering if LED's would work? I can't see this being legal, as they shine brighter than halogens and without levelers it's likely to blind oncoming traffic :/ Thanks! :)
Hi Ronny The new laws that prevent you from having lightbars on top of your roof. Are they only talking bout being on main roads or both highway and bush 4x4 tracks
Not happy with them at all, was better before the question was put to the DOT as now it's no longer a gray area. I'm putting covers on mine and will continue to drive within the road rules to avoid any unwanted attention.
Hi Ronnie, what battles do you run to power the lights & do you have a standard alternator? I've got 2 roo lights 100w on the bull bar 90 series Prado diesel, and at idle you notice drop in output with headlights on as well. I'm looking at a snake racing E series 10inch combo bar light, but want to make sure I have enough power to run everything I was thinking a 2 battery system in parallel.
I run two batts, one cranking which runs vehicle motor, winch, spotties and radios 1-2. My second batt which is a marine battery runs everything in the back but also runs the light bar (200w) and 3 radio. I have a new water cooled alternator which keeps up with both batts with all the lights running at the same time. Batteries are managed via BCDC charger. Hope that helps Cheers
I used to run parallel batts but ran into problems as they level out which is not good when you only have a bit of juice left in them after using lights at camp. I then got a switch so I could choose batt 1, batt 2, batt 1&2 (used that for night driving and winching) and the 4th option was batt OFF (which kills all power to the car, good for parking long term or as a kill switch). That was in the Hilux. Now with the cruiser I have both batts isolated but I run the light bar off the second batt and spotties and other lights off batt 1, this seems to sort my volt drops out a bit as it's not all drawing from the same batt.
Hi Ronny , thanks for the informative videos as always. I have a question though. There has been recent changes to LED light bar regulations in WA i've heard . Can you please elaborate on them . I was thinking of buying some but the regulations say the bar cannot be above the bonnet ie in the line of sight not sure if its still allowed on the roof . I see heaps of vehicles with them on top .
ozzieshikari Wheatbelt 4x4 holdenman77 Cheers guys. With what they say (Western Australian Department of Transport) LED bar or any roof lights can't be used anywhere on a "road" including gravel roads ect. However if you were to cover your light with a none reflective canvas bag or a black PVC cover or even adjust it so it points up to the sky (then tilt it back down afterwards when you need it off road) it should be fine, BUT it will depend on the cop. Most won't care as they have better things to do but if you give them reason to look at you or pull you over its just like everything else. Drive to the conditions and only use it off-road and you should be fine but I would cover it up! Remember its not the Police that are the problem they are just doing their job, its some pen pusher behind the desk at the Department of Transport who I'm guessing has never been outside the city boundaries and has never been off-road or in the bush at night... I will be covering mine up and will only be using it off-road, not just because I can see more but because it's safer for me to do so...
Hey Ronny if you don't mine me asking what brand is your light bar's on on your cruiser and your mate single cab been looking for some good light's for my old girl but really want some thing that i know that works great ?? p.s love the video's :) cheer's.
JR Cook Honetly don't notice it with the amount of light being cast out on the terrain, I even drive with the cab lights on sometimes as the light is so bright (only at slow speeds off-road however).
Dude if only this kind of common sense came into WA's vehicle light-mounting laws.... Just ripped my light bar down for fear that many cops are on Facebook and saw posts about it constantly for a week like I did not long ago :-)
+Simon Moulton yeah its pretty crap, all they want is money. Surely black covers would be good enough but just heard last night regardless of black covers or not they must come down. Load of Bull$Ith!!
From reading the two documents, its seems there saying its OK to have standard spot lights on the roof but not LED Bar lights according to: IB-123A - Vehicle Safety and Standards Information Bulletin Optional Front Lamps Fitment and Use where it stated :'There are no height restrictions with regard to mounting position.' but RECOMMENDS ' A driver must not use, or allow to be used, any lamp fitted to or in the driver's vehicle to dazzle, or in a way that is likely to dazzle, another road user. luke kirkham The rules do allow you to see better at night, provided the lights are mounted low enough. What they are meant to prevent , when on road, is high mounted driving lights poking over the crest of a hill & blinding an on-coming driver before your eye line can see over the crest. I've had it happen to me & it is very unsafe at highway speed. Most off-road drivers understand this & don't use the roof lights unless 4 wheel driving. Unfortunately the ADRs have to account for the dim-witted & selfish.
We are aware of that which was part of the reason I did this video to show that we actually use them and they do make it safer for us off-roaders out on the tracks. I have since got some covers for the roof lights so they are out of site and more importantly unusable until the covers are removed.

how do you not have more subs this is really detailed info keep it up
Hey thanks for the good information. I ordered a top light bar after seeing this. I posted up a photo of my Hummer H3 on your facebook Ronny.

ronnie, your videos are getting better and better. thank you. one question: do you have to drill through the roof if you want to install roof lights?
thanks Michael Yapp My lights are bolted to the roof-rack and the wiring travels from the battery to under the vehicle then up the back of the cab to the roof rack. You can also use the many grommets throughout the vehicle to run the wires.

Good.
have you tested roof tents? roof tent vs ground tents.
I like the roof lights on Torben's Land Cruiser referred to as 'the sun'. Would you by any chance know what brand and/or model lights they are?
Hey Ronny,

So many different brands of lights where do I start at BCF xtm, ARB, TJM, HELP
Hi Ronny The new laws that prevent you from having lightbars on top of your roof. Are they only talking bout being on main roads or both highway and bush 4x4 tracks
another good thing for the dunes is to have a orange flag on your car. so that others can see you coming especially in lancelin
Roof light will be coming soon thank you
The Rolling Rockers no worries mate
How do you go with the legalities of mounting lightbars and spotties to the roof? I'm in WA have heard the police are hammering roof mounted led bars.
Another brilliant video mate! what are your thoughts on the WA regulations on lightbars?
Not happy with them at all, was better before the question was put to the DOT as now it's no longer a gray area. I'm putting covers on mine and will continue to drive within the road rules to avoid any unwanted attention.
Ronny did you film your outro at the ellenbrook pines?
good vid. what type of light on the roof of the single cab cruiser?
Zoolt Pool thanks mate, I tagged you into the answer about the lights on the roof

Where did you get your light bar covers made, as the ones most of us have probably never came with covers
Got mine custom made just yesterday, got them made by productive plastics in Wangara Western Australia
+Ronny Dahl (4 Wheeling in W.A.) Thanks m8, will head down there later this week to see them
what is that thing in front of the hood scoop at 4:29 and what is it used for??
When you were talking is that at pinjara pines
Dylan Tassone North of Perth pine plantations
aha cool because i thought it was because i ride my quad there alot
Hi mate where did you get your exhaust temp gauge + Boost Gauge and the molded mount on the pillar
+Sergio Mizzi from here mate: www.ssautorepairs.com.au/

you WA blokes are screwed with the new LED bar laws
Clip on plastic covers... makes it less of a pullover and fine and keeps them clean until you need to use them
How do you manage hood glare from the roof lights?
JR Cook Honetly don't notice it with the amount of light being cast out on the terrain, I even drive with the cab lights on sometimes as the light is so bright (only at slow speeds off-road however).
There 26watt 6" spots that pump out a total of around 25,000Lm
Torben Poulsen here is the answer you'er after mate Zoolt Pool
+Torben Poulsen where did you get them from?
What did Brian uppgrade his headlights to?
Birdphotoman44 ADR approved LED head lights, they are way brighter than the old candle lights he had before :D
I always have heard roof lights reflect of the hood
jetsgo66 It has never been a problem for me, the trick is to make sure the light does not hang/sit past the roof (ahead of the window).
Fresh cuts

any thoughts on this?
wa law dosnt want us to c at night anymore have u seen the new laws on light bar mounting?
luke kirkham The rules do allow you to see better at night, provided the lights are mounted low enough. Toyota Landcruiser...
Lol..........not one of those vehicles comply with the new ADR's.........no spotlights/LED's allowed on the roof mate : (

That rule is about as dumb as the no bullbar laws theyre trying to push : (
It's frustrating times we live in, too many silly rules. When will it stop...
