Varian as a alliance player myself was the king you looked up to. yeah he had his darkside, but he struggled and over came it. To be a better king, and better father to his son. That last act of service to his people. *kneels* will never be forgotten.
@@talisredstar1543 He overcame his ingrained prejudice and hatred of the Orcs and the Horde in order to do what was best for his people, when dealing with Thrall, and later Vol'jin. Remember, he had to flee Stormwind and live in exile for many years in Lordaeron when Blackhand's Horde invaded Azeroth and destroyed his land, and then later fighting against them when they attacked the Northern kingdoms and burned Quel'thalas. That's a lot to put aside in the name of good leadership, and speaks to his willpower and judgment.
This was a hard one for Alliance players. They had the same king for years.
Also, it's cool that you picked up on the color differences between Varian and Anduin when they hold the sword. I think it has to do with the fact that Varian was a warrior and Anduin is more of a priest/paladin.
Man i play Horde 4 years and i hate the Allince.... but this was hard for me too and i get every time tears in my eyes. Varian was a great WoW charter... and i miss him :(

Varian Anduin's father was a wariror also a chosen of Goldrin (demigod of wolves a wildgod), varian was his champion. Anduin is a priest, and has a deep tie to light and spirits. Hence he could 'feel' the hits and fell down. He empowers the sword with light. Light draws strengtyh from willpower and faith in lore.
Very true. The color it gave off in Varian's hands is the color of a warrior, of duty, passion, determination, and rage. Anduin, being a follower of the light upon taking up the weapon like Fynorian said empowered it with the light. This is also reflected in the Battle For Azeroth Opening cinematic. Andiun tries to be a warrior like his father, and he comes to realize his strength is not in the force of Arms, but in his faith in the light. So when he drops Charlemain, the sword, he is saying this is not my way. Then he reaches to the sky and prays to the Light to hear his plea, to heal his allies, and give them the strength to fight for justice, and Righteousness. So he mass resurrects his fallen comrades and buffs them with conviction "Stand as one. For the Alliance!"
Yeah, Varian was a warrior through and through, but before Legion, Anduin was studying to become a priest. That is why he has the golden glow on the sword and why he uses the light in battle.

The Kings of Stormwind always fought alongside their soldiers and died on the Battlefield with them... As an Alliance player this was so sad to see back in the day... well it still is ;/

theres a in game cinematic from legion stormheim (Genn vs Sylvanas)
wich is really short but has so much story and emotion behind it because prior to this "betrail" as genn sees it she killd his son and plauged his kingdome against the comand of the warchief at the time so there is a lot of hatred between the forsaken and the gilnean people
If the Horde would have stayed, they would've died pointlessly. Their side of the battle was far worse than the Alliance iirc, they were supposed to be routed and the Alliance cut off. This entire battle was a massive trap laid by the Burning Legion with the intention of decapitating the armies of the Alliance and the Horde, and they nearly succeeded.
Maybe it wasn't clear but sylvanas had to leave the horde was being attacked from behind. they were facing just as many troops the alliance just couldn't see it. If she hadn't all of them would've died.
technically more since they had to cover the alliance and were being ambushed at the same time basically fighting 2 front to hlp the alliance.
To make it worse, the Rogue finds out both factions had been infiltrated by Legion Agents and SI:7 was sabotaged from warning the factions of the trap waiting for them.
The thing was, i think if the roles were reversed and it was the Horde leading the assault against Gul'dan and the alliance providing support, they would've fought to their last man. The Alliance knows all too well about honor and sacrifice.

@@BurakkuHishou Don't be silly no they would not. No side is going to die for the other. Individually sure people might sacrifice themselves on either side but as a whole faction standing until complete defeat makes no logical sense.
This was a suicide mission from the very beginning. Sylvanas and the horde were overrun because at their position they mightve been able to help out the alliance but not the other way around. The alliance had full control over the battle on the lower grounds because of the hordes assistance but the horde did not get any assistance, they were supposed to push forward, hold position and assist the alliance all at once. It was only a matter of time until either the horde fell or retreated.
I feel like if sylvanas didnt retreat, both the horde and alliance wouldve lost a lot more important people.
Varian was a magnificent king. Varian's sword, Shalamayne, was a magical Elvin sword - two magical Elvin swords actually. They were forged together to help Varian figuratively and literally forge the two halves of himself back together. When he held the sword it glowed red because he was a Warrior by in game class definition and they draw strength from fury. It glows a gold white for Anduin because he is a Holy Priest and they draw power from the Light.

lol later in the game guldan gets the same treatment when he dies, you are missing the part when sylvanas is made warchief on the horde side.

Amazing! Now i really recommend you watch the end cinematics for " Val'shara " and " Stormheim ". They're both continuing the story after the first cinematic you watched here, showing what more happened. And from there i'd recommend all the trailers for patches in legion and the end cinematics for each raid!

I've watched these cinematics countless times, and I still get teary eyes every time I witness my king Varian fall.
I've played warrior as my main for years because of him, but since this, I couldn't keep going and I switched to another character.
Now every time I login on my warrior, I take him to the king's resting place in the city and I pay respect.
somethings leave a huge mark on us, and king Varian left his on me. I still have him as my phone's screen lock till now :')

Sylvanas absolutely had to sound the retreat. You don't see it too clearly in the cinematic, you have a greater view of it in-game, but the Troll that went down was the Horde Warchief at the time, Vol'jin. Leader of the entire Horde; on top of that their position was getting completely overrun, the amount of demons pouring through portals on that ridge was so unrelenting the Horde was getting completely overrun. Had they stayed all of the Horde leadership and bulk of their military would have been completely killed.
Varian is a honorable warrior, so his blades energy was almost blood orange. Andiun was a priest of the Light so when the blade attuned to him, it took on the Holy Light as its power. That is why the colors were different.
Amazing you picked up on the color of their powers, the son is a priest that specializes in healing while the dad-king is a warrior ❤

Anduin was the one in charge when I started playing and some players find him wimpy because he does express a lot of self-doubt and indecision. A lot of bad things have happened to him. Right now in-game he's wandering and away from the story line from what happened in Shadowlands, but I expect him to be an interesting character again in the future, quite possibly to gain more bad-assery.
It was very risky for Sylvanas to call down her Valkyr (those angels). She has a very limited amount of them they cannot be remade (yet). They exist under Sylvanas' command to resurrect her if she were to die, sacrificing one angel.
You will be remembered, as the King who sacrificed his life... FOR THE ALLIANCE.
Varian already know why Sylvanas retreat the moment he saw the enemies on the hill..

I played this game from launch, Varian death was such a gut punch
Yeah this one still makes me tear up. Varian was truly a badass king and leader. There will be no one like him ever again, even if Anduin really is shaping up.
A sidenote is that death by fel magic is the most painful way to die known on Azeroth, hence his heart-wrenching scream.
Aaaand another sidenote as I finished watching the video... Varian was a Warrior, once a gladiator, while Anduin is a Priest. While he IS trained in combat he is not a Paladin just because he wields a sword and the light (which is what many mistake him as), but yeah, that could explain the difference in colour on the blade. Also, I love the change of look on his face before and after he "meets his father" whilst holding the sword.

the reason i belive the hew of the sword was more gold is becuse Anduin is more of a Paladin (a holy warrior that uses the light). As you could the in the Battle for Azeroth trailer when the resurected/ heal his troops.
Varian was a warrior so the blade was orange cause of the nature of is warrior soul "fierce honnorable combatant" but it glow yellow in Anduin's hands cause he is a priest so whith the light of justice and righteousness
You should have seen the players on release day lol You have never seen such internet rage. I know I watched the cutscene and the first words out of my mouth were "$&(&$ Sylvanas WTF &#$(&$#(&*" and all the Horde players were screaming in defense of their faction, and it was a terrific and wonderful thing :D For a game to have that deep of an emotional connection for the players is unheard of.
Legion storyline is so good, you should check out Gul’dan’s end and Illidan’s gift cinematics

The thing is the horde also was being overrun thats why they left.
The horde is a much smaller force than the alliance and they were facing double the legion troops the alliance were. it was literally extinction for the horde if they stayed.

For a game with 2 factions, they sure did a great job here of what each side knows, and sees. Man the alliance players hated us for this.
I always been Horde and play this event the same day for boths side, and i have to tell the alliance has the easy part, on the Horde side se has so Many enemies i got 3,5 million dps with just 1 bladestorm 😂😂😂

This expansion killed so many beloved characters. Some deserving a better end.
Anduin was actually a devastatingly terrible King.
The Broken Shore is like the Lordearon thing, you will always see the Horde and Alliance version.
On Horde side you have Vol'Jin who is the Warchief at the moment, you see Sylvanas, Baine, the cow dude from Lordaeron Horde part, Thrall, the green Orc, you have seen in Safe Haven,
Alliance side, you have King Varian, Jaina, Genn Greymane the wolf guy, and Mekkatorque the gnome you saw in robot thing.
By now I think you hate Gul'dan, but he will get reckt, i wont spoil it yet.

When this first came out, I was on the horde side and honestly, the amount of enemies was insane. Outnumbered like 10-1.

Sylvanas for all the moments of 'badass' she has, was always a psuedo villain character. The atrocities she approved of since WoW's base release are unforgivable, it was poetic that these atrocities were in the name of revenge both for herself and her new people the Forsaken. She would have had a complete story arc when back during Wrath of the Lich King after the death of the Lich King Arthas, she threw herself from the top of Icecrown, but was saved and started to double down on the atrocities much to the dismay of a new Warchief who I have WAY to much anger about how poorly written his story's direction went. Shadowlands tries so desperately hard to paint her as some victim that its insulting as a long time WoW player.
