You're welcome Quinn! My thumbs are hurting because of slightly beginning osteoarthritis, so I had to change my focus to woodworking. But there'll be more occasionally.
Thanks a lot! Haha, yeah I have the same feeling when I'm watching it. A bit to scary.. But after 1000 spoons and 100x amount of axe chops, it's in your muscles. Haven't carved a lot lately because of my hands. So when I start up again, I'll do it slowly. Don't got time for chopped off limbs.. Who does now a days!?
Does the chopping block have to be endgrain up? It's going to be my biggest challenge if so. I can get nice pieces of hardwood board but have to use them long grain up - but would this be hard on the axe edge? Thanks
A great way to start my day here in the US? This wonderfully peaceful spoon carving video! 🏆 How dry was the wood before beginning? What is your finishing technique or further drying time before use? Thanks!
Yeah, Maple (this is Acer Pseudoplatanus) is hard, but nice to carve. But take care of your hands, or you'll end up hurting yourself. I got slightly beginning osteoarthritis. That's why I haven't made any carving videos lately.
Jonas, the strain on your hands is not what is _causing_ the osteoarthritis - it is merely exacerbating it. Start to research foods that are anti-inflammatory - try to lay off the bread and the sugar. Begin to incorporate cod liver oil into your diet. If you have the balls try for a five day fast. This induces a number of beneficial mechanical responses in your body. One of these is a process called Autophagy in which your body, in an effort to maintain it's nutrition, scavenges everything it feels it doesn't need including toxins and crystals and over-dense purine activity. The second is an increase in Human Growth Hormone which facilitates healing. The third is an increase in Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor which will make your brain work better. You don't want to be forced to give up what you love before you have to...
It helps that the wood probably still has decent moisture in it, I tried carving a spoon with really dry black cherry and it was not easy on the hands.
@@formgjortbyJonasAls, I agree with the fact that the thread is fun. I've tried it before, but it didn't work out. Thank you for answering. Sorry for my English, I wrote this message through "Yandex translator". Good Luck in your work. Waiting for new videos: D P.S. у тебя чёткая борода)))😉
Hey Jonaz! Maple, birch, cherry, walnut.. Go knock yourself out. Avoid conifers and some of the more exotic woods. My favorite is maple that's a bit hard. Birch is softer but not as strong. Best is apple, pear or european walnut, which is my all time favorite, but that's also very hard on your hands.
Here in Citrusdal, in the Western Cape of South Africa we have the second largest citrus industry in South Africa. Orange wood is _beautiful_ and when I get my Beavercraft S13 next month I hope to start with using this wood.
Just beautiful. I’ve started carving not long ago and although I’m not great, I’m getting there. I do have a question though. What would you use to seal or coat an eating spoon? I thought maybe veg oil but figured it might turn bad over time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Check out www.leevalley.com/en-ca They sell all manner of wood working tools, and wood treatments. I believe they have something that may work, and if you call them, they can tell you more. As I don’t know where you are, that’s the best I can do to help.
Jackie, I've been thinking about that and do you know what _I'm_ going to try? And I bet it's never been done before because no man has ever thought of it. _BIO TISSUE OIL_ ! It's designed by Swiss Dermatologists for the human skin and thus should be perfectly safe for food use. It's a combination of several different kinds of oils beneficial to the skin. It's colourless. It has a very unobtrusive perfume. I don't know what it tastes like because I've never tasted it. But I'm definately going to give it a bash!
Hello 🙂 This one is 6-7 years old I think, so I’m not sure it’s possible to find. But contact MoraKniv and ask.. they might have something in stock. They are pretty nice.
@@Hans_Weber Well yes, but there are many types of maple, you would certainly find that Box Elder is a far different wood than Sugar maple or Red maple. How ever, It looks to me that by the way it carves and the fact that this guy is out of Denmark, I would say that it is either Field maple or Norwegian maple, hope this helps.
Hello, this is the first time i see any of your videos or your channel. I also don't know how many years you've been carving spoons but while i was watching your video i got worried at some points. Especially when you lay flat the wood and chopped at the direction of your hand. Some of the people i know including my self use a somewhat V shape cavity to secure our hand while chopping those bowl and neck areas. Also please consider cut resistant tape on your thumbs while scooping the bowl. Hope you don't take this comment in a negative way. Just want to be sure that fellow spoon carvers stay out the harms way. Stay safe and god bless...
This is the best type of asmr could watch people spoon carving all day , so mesmerising
Lovely axe work. That's where I'm having all my problems.
Your axe skill if off the charts! Very impressive skill set you have. Thanks for sharing a proper eating spoon profile. Very nice!
Thank you very much Zoltan!
Beautiful, you showed carving from start to end, woow asowme
Very nice, thanks for showing us.

More than off the charts! You make it look robotic bro! Cheers 🍺🍺🍺
Greetings from around the corner in Northern Germany. Beautiful spoon!
Thank you August! And cheers to you! ;)
Oh yes, Denmark is so small.. Not far away from everything. I might come by for a evening coffee :D
Great blade skills buddy and very enjoyable.
Very nice looking spoon! Great job!
Amazing skills
I can carve with my SAK... but not with an axe!!! I'd lose a finger or two or three! Very impressive work!

Awesome video. What is the name of that second tool you used?
Another really cool video jonas. 👍🏼
Good grief, that wood isn't even green and you make it look like you're carving a bar of soap. I'm envious!
Oh it is green, trust me! My hands would die from it, if it was seasoned! :D
Great, instructive video… really enjoyed that. Do you give templates? Would love to copy that as it looks comfortable to use.
For a chunk of maple, I'm surprised it carved up that easily. Maple is very hard wood.

Haha, thank you buddy! You should give it a go, spooncarving is so much fun!

Great video. I'm on the market for a new axe and really like yours. Any information on it so I can get my own?
Hans Karlsson axe and 35mm adze
I'm very curious as to why so people who carve spoons refuse to make the bowl symmetrical
Asymmetrical or symmetrical, both works great for me
watching this was so relaxing, made me wanna try some day. Do you prefer maple for food related tools for any special reasons?

Hot water and soap 😉
Nice work 💪♥️
Tak Jørgen! 💪🏻😎😉

Thank you very much Nas! That means a lot to me! Wow.

And it took me 10 months to change! haha, thanks again Matthew!
Hello from pnw! What type of wood is that?
it says in the title, maple

Wich wood you are using
A little sanding and it will be utterly perfect! I’m impressed! I like your maple one better than the one you based it off of!!! It looks great!
Do you use the spoons you make or just slobber on them and then sell them?
Only Slobbering.. slightly perverted.. 😉
Both, I’ve been using the same spoons I made over 6-7 years ago.
Others I sell 💪🏻
Hahahaha….
Waww Greetings from Hungary ( Őrség )Subscribet :-)
Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it!

Super god video.
You can put your weed in here
Hahaha, all you want..
Ne ağacı?
At20 minutes the bowl of the spoon “ magically” appears. I wish you had shown carving the bowl in detail.
not to smart to carve the way you are too close too your hands
