I really liked how respectfully he treated the first caller. he's only been listening all week and he was given solid advice and I know he will take it. I'm so glad Dave is back! He hit every point that he should have and then he gave him the book. Yay!
An interesting point about Baby Step 1 and 3. Currently, I'm on Baby Step 7, and I've maintained my $1000 starting emergency fund in a separate account with a different bank than my Baby Step 3 six-month emergency fund. I see it as my last line of defense, as it reminds me of the time when I was broke and in debt, and I never want to forget those challenging times.
That is great. I will do the same when I get there. A small reminder.
I like how Dave lowers his voice and speaks slowly when emphasizing when a caller is doing something ill-advised, as opposed to raising his voice an octave or two and screeching. Almost all of the personalities could take stock of that. The interrupting and screechy voices sounds so condescending.
That's like me and the ex-wife. She would complain that this was my version of "yelling" and talking to her like a child.

Ramsey comment around 8:00 made me realize wealth is built like a slow boil. It doesn’t happen right away but keep heating up over time and it will boil over eventually.

I didn't realize how much I missed Papa Dave until he started to go in on the caller around 1:09 (he was probably operating at, like, 30%, lol) and then he started his monologue rant around 1:13. All is right in the world again. PS) The Ramsey Show should make a "Goob" and/or "Tik Tak" t-shirt lol

Finished paying my student loans off. Kept the last $7,000 in a savings account until the Supreme Court ruling. I think 0 is my new favorite number especially when it's how much I owe.

That forklift driver making $55K in supply chain is making about $28/hr for a 75 HR work week. I work in Canada and we are part of the "CRITICAL SUPPLY CHAIN", our steel was supplied to make ventilators for COVID patients, so we never shut down. I don't make much more than $60K CDN. It really amazes me how much money Americans make and run into debt so fast. If I made $100K/yr I would be set for life in a few years, no spending, pay everything off, save like mad.

@@19CS91 Ramsey Show tends not to market any old service from any old advertiser. They are pretty specific about what they put their name to. Ramsey also does not believe owning rentals is best for every listener necessarily. It's inconsistent with the Baby Steps in many callers' cases. So to have an ad on the
show that casts a wide net like that is out of step.

A crash in the stock or real estate markets has less of an immediate impact on people's standard of living than inflation or currency devaluation. That the market is so negative at the moment shouldn't be shocking. If we are to survive in this economy, we need assistance right away. The ETF and stock markets are still quite volatile, just like the property market. Now all that's left of my $370K portfolio is ruins.
Many people are still getting fantastic returns on their investments during this time. Simply maintain a strong sense of reality or ask for professional assistance.

Cars, unless you know your market. UK listener here. Had Skylines for 16 years now. Bought my latest one in 2019. It cost me £12k, that irked me as I remember them being £6k. Now thanks to the American market being able to finally import them at 25 years old it’s worth around £25-30k. Saw this coming but didn’t have the money to buy the ones that used to cost £30k and now Americans pay over £100k for 👌
Dave endorses some solar in some markets? Why? When can you ever call the utility company and pay off that liability? Solar is the only way to get debt free from the electric bill. And research the inflation reduction act, there will be inflation to power cost due to taxing coal and natural gas. Pay cash. Let’s go 🥶

I honestly have too many issues health wise to deal with owning a home, can i just rent and stay debt free(not yet)? I mean my income is definitely at least rent within 25% income...

Actually Dave 90% of lenders for solar do not put a lien on the property and he most likely also has an option to transfer the payment to the next owner and can make the a must to buy the home
They put a UCC1 on the panels not the home
Interesting. I would have thought it would have been 90% the other way.
Guess I assumed that after 10 years the equipment would be about worthless as far as resale, so the lender would prefer collateral that’s worth more.
Honolulu call answer should have been - move into a free house and rent your existing for $5500/mo. That with a 250k income will pay this off and you will be on track to stack and buy another! You did admit you knew nothing about the city that has some of the most expensive real estate in the US! You did in the end say to keep her house so good on you. If you have an opportunity to own income producing real property in Hawaii for $400,000…..keep it. It will pay better than any mutual fund or etf. Now you know something about Honolulu. 🙂
I signed up for PSLF and met my obligations years ago. I have 44 over payments, and they still have not forgiven my balance.

The woman in the Carolinas going through a divorce …I didn’t think husbands couldn’t refuse child support. I would think a judge would have to garnish his wages, but I guess it’s different from state to state.
I don’t think he was refusing to pay child support. She said in the beginning of the call that she took a lump sum in lieu of alimony payments. Later into the call she said she was using her $400 child support to cover food. (Strange that someone who made enough more than their spouse to be on the hook for alimony would only be required to pay $400 for child support for two kids.)
Joint custody of both until oldest graduates, then she gets full custody of the youngest (some sort of abuse situation or different father?)
She makes $36k but talks about getting part time (second?) job during the 3 days they’re at dad’s. Unusual that a 14 year old can’t stay at home while she’s at work, especially with an older sibling in the residence, but it happens I guess.
Her situation sounds a little complicated, and she was not able to articulate it in a clear manner.
I think the half she’s talking about is half of the children’s expenses (school stuff, activities, clothes,etc.) that he needs to contribute because of the split custody

Theres a difference between giving it to them in interest and having them hold it while they pay you interest
