The slow pace speech is soo good! 😄
I appreciate the specific feedback Jan, helps me out a lot!
Just wanted to updated you on exporting from Photos to FCPX. For some reason I am able to drag and drop using the native res/fps I used for my videos while retaining HDR
Also want to add that it takes a couple days to see HDR on youtube even when it's been processed to 4K and you also need an HDR capable device. because the only indication of HDR will be on the video player itself and it wont even tell you on youtube studio; so anyone reading this don't be discouraged
Yes, Apple fixed the drag-n-drop a few releases ago (for now…)
Till I watched this video, all I could find is how to convert HDR to SDR in Final Cut Pro, and I was using iMovie on iPad to edit HDRs. Thank you so much, I can leave my iPad alone now.
It's crazy that Apple supports HDR export in iPad iMovie, but not on MacOS. Glad you found my video! FWIW, I've made a bunch of HDR videos for YT since this was published, and nothing substantive has changed.
@@KurtPapke I noticed that MacOS dos not support HDR in iMovie. Many questions. But I'm very excited now that I can finally edit HDR on my Macbook, thanks again Kurt!
Hi, I watched a few videos with a modern intro etc but no one it was useful. Now I saved this one because it helped me a lot, thank you so much!
This is so very helpful, THANKS!!! Great information video!!!😊
I very much appreciate your kind words!
I learned something else new today. If UA-cam marks your video as copyright (not a strike), for example, there is background music playing, this may or may not stop YT from rendering HDR, it will remain in 4k SDR indefinitely. It's not a problem for shooting sunsets, but for videos in public, this is frustrating due to the complete lack of information on the conversion process.
Wow, thanks for passing that along!
Thanks for the video, I have one small point. Unless you're going for this effect, your videos are crazy bright. If you're not mastering a property-configured mastering monitor, it might be worth checking your levels in FCPX.
They look perfect on my iMac, but I have heard this comment before, so it is an issue. Going to have to be judicious on which videos I publish in HDR.
Hi Kurt, No criticism, just information. I don't know what Mac you have but I'm guessing that you have a P3 (sub 1000 nits) display so it will look great. I'm using a Mac studio with a 1600 nits Pro Display XDR, and I think we're seeing different things. People without a stupid, expensive mastering monitor or a high-end iPad will see the same as you do for now. Perhaps you simply like the look that you are getting , there are no crimes in art. Your video helped me a lot, I was so frustrated about YT rendering HDR. I must have uploaded 100's of different renders before I learned that you just have to wait. Thanks Brett
Great video
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!
Hi Kurt. Just came across this great, informative video. Exactly what I needed to solve why my HLG 10bit (FCP) iPhone 14pro projects appear washed out in UA-cam. I was wondering if you would be able to update the video to encompass the updated versions of FCP & Compressor. FYI (if you hadn't realised) when using the share icon in FCP the drop down has changed and does not give your selected option. Also in compressor the video settings list in the inspector has changed. Thanks Richard
Good to know about the changes, thanks!
Can you make a video on how to compress HDR videos in handbrake, settings for HDR videos in Handbrake
Good idea!
Hey i am not having this option when i want to export
THIS IS 2 DAYS AFTER VIDEO WAS UPLOADED ITS STILL SHOWING AS 1080P HD MY FRIEND INTRESTING VIDEO.
It showed up as HDR on my screens about 24 hours after upload, which is when I made it public. Just double-checked on my iPad and still HDR. Perhaps you are not viewing on an HDR screen?
