- Most folks have heard of the feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys, the most well-known Appalachian feud in American history. But less known is what happened to the principal players in the feud after the fighting died down.

Being a Hatfield from Williamson in Southern WV, I thought I had heard all the stories but did learn a few new things on this video. My dad was born in Sprigg 5 years after Devil Anse died.
Randell was a ferry boat operator up until he died

My grandma was a MCcoy her father was Jake MCcoy and his father was Larkin MCcoy and Asa Harmon MCcoy was his father which is Randall MCcoy

why was Randell McCoy Buried in the Dils Cemetery? Colonel John Dils of the 39th Kentucky Infantry , who fostered both Perry Cline and Frank Philips who had many grievances against WA Hatfield is the most interesting and influential player in the whole so called feud, this is the real back story complete with Blue VS Gray setting the scenario to the later incidents which were connected after they took place to justify coal and mineral companies land grabs

If you have access to newspapers.com, just go on and do a search for that and you should find it as it was published in several newspapers across the country. The tunnel is known by many as the Hatfield tunnel.

I assume you're talking about Hattie? The 18 year old he married when he was 73 and who later divorced him. Yup, that was a bad decision on his part. We didn't specifically mention it in the episode because most sources don't mention her or the marriage. After the episode aired, though, I did happen to find a copy of the marriage certificate.

I always heard that my family was direct descendants of the McCoys, but I live in the suburbs of Detroit & have no interest in anything southern so I never gave it a chance growing up... recently I took over looking into my moms and dads side and yea I am the great-great-great grandson of Nancy McCoy - do you think HBO owe's many any $$ XD

Does any films made it today from their reenactments?? I saw Annie Oakley Do some shooting on film around the early 1900's so I was wondering.
There are still photos of re-enactments of the feud you can find on the Library of Congress website, but they are low quality and not available for download or use without special permission. I’ve not found any films but if they exist they might be archived by the state of West Virginia or in the possession of descendants of the families.
