The thing about the Light type is that we already have it in the form of Fairy and Psychic: Necrozma is all about eating and giving off light and its Psychic type, and Dazzling Gleam is a Fairy type move. Fairy types are Light type, but they also represent cutesy, charming and magical themes. Like how Dark represents literal darkness, night, and underhanded tactics, or Dragon represents literal dragons as well as arcane power/mana.

I disagree. The moves Flash Cannon, Power Gem, Solar Beam, Solar Blade, Flash, Confuse Ray, Signal Beam, Tail Glow and Judgement also fall in line with the element of light. That's the Steel, Rock, Grass, Ghost, Bug and Normal type having at least one move that uses light in some way. Turn all of that into a single type and that gets taken away from all of them. We already have the "Light Type" in the form of moves and descriptions of Pokémon. Just look at Ampharos and Lantern. Not Psychic types but they would deserve the Light type before anyone else besides the Light Trio.
Same goes for Sound. Straight up Sparkling Aria, Boomburst and Overdrive off the top of my head.

@@OmarRodriguez-pj3qy Yeah that's absolutely true, though I would argue that some of those make sense to not be Fairy or Psychic. Like Solar Beam/Blade being based on photosynthesis, so it makes sense for them to be Grass type. And yeah, Electric does also fill the Light type niche.

Fairies are known to be without any specific alinement and are often tricksters by nature, sometimes getting quite dark, and Psychic implies some sort of inner magic derived from the mind. I’d rather look at Fairy as more adjacent to psychic then a rival to Dark type.
Light could be the hero type, the ones who glow, or even just holy/righteous being sort of character. It could recontextualize a lot of pre-existing characters.
Like Gallade could take on the Light type to show his role as a Princess’ hero, while Pokemon are named pretty straightforward like “the light trio” that refer to Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma.
Fairy types are neutral magical beings. While dark types are often evil and not necessarily magical.
Light would complete the alignment chart with its use as good/heroic Pokémon.

Theres a lot of design work that needs to go into designing types. Its not just about themes, that is just one part of what makes a good design. Theres the functional aspect which a lot of people overlook. If its just for art and creativity sake, then maybe that can be ignored. But if you're actually going to make a game, then each type added creates exponentially more work that needs to be done. Considering the effectiveness of each type against each other type, each pokemon, balancing and testing all of it is a lot of work. Also N0Rtist mentioned in a previous video, wanting to have subtypes as well, which is even more complexity. Not saying it can't all be done, but inexperience with controlling scope can kill a project.

Somehow, my favorite interpretation and justification of Pokemon types comes from fanfiction of all things.
In Borne of Caution, by Fuggmann, there's an incredible digression on it, even if it's limited to just a few types. First, "one must first understand the inherent differences between the four ethereal pokemon types: Psychic, Ghost, Dark, and Fairy. All other types have elements that totally or partially reside in the physical world."
This is all in a single chapter, Act 2 Ch 13. "Dark and Fairy exist close to Psychic and Ghost, overlapping but not truly touching. Where Psychic and Ghost are the realms of intellect and emotion respectively, Dark and Fairy occupy an even muddier scale of intent along the axis of Psychic and Ghost, forming a wicked compass."
"Psychics are the most populous of the four, and thus the type the layman thinks of when they see phenomena that do not obviously belong to another type. Psychics are rooted deeply in using cold logic and intellect to enforce one's will upon the world around them, with almost zero emotional component. Ghost and Dark energy will disrupt Psychics for this reason, as the volatile emotions within these energies are not a quantifiable concept that a Psychic can control or calculate."
"Ghosts are the opposite of Psychics. Strip away the flesh and the mind, and what are you left with? A soul, a being of pure sentiment and passion. Here, understanding becomes hazy for most. Love, hate, joy, sadness, and every emotion save raw apathy has a power that cannot be measured with the eye or instruments. Emotion is what makes a soul, what fuels it, and what drives it forward. [...] strong feelings are a power that defies and persists even beyond death."
"Dark is the element of animalistic desire and violence. The want to cause harm, the want to control, the want to spread misery. That is not to say all who bear the epithet of Dark-type are monsters, but that the most personable of them are pokemon of admirable self-control. A Dark pokemon may love and hate like any other, but only the intent within will empower Dark energies. Many fail to realize this and nurture a most detestable character in the pursuit of power."
"Fairy is a type I hesitate to put into words. Most would think Fairy to be the type of joy and happiness, but that's not quite correct. There is an underlying sinister, distorted nature that I do not truly grasp, one required to bear these powers in battle with the intent to harm. I know precious little about these energies or the minds of those who wield them. The state of mind required to master Fairy-type is alien, and that is all I know for certain. I have doubts that many of the users of Fairies actually understand their pokemon."

      This reminds me of something:
Steel type is weak to fire, fighting, and ground type moves, while resistant to normal, grass, ice, flying, bug, rock, steel, psychic, dragon, and fairy type moves.
Steel type moves are only strong against ice, rock, and fairy, but steel type moves are ineffective against fire, water, electric and steel.
Dragon type is weak to ice, dragon, and fairy, and is resistant to fire, water, grass, and electric.
To me, it seems like steel type has the most strengths and weaknesses to and against more "real" types. Dragons, psychic abilities, and fairies do not exist in the real world, but everything else steel type does well and poorly does

Adding them as new types to pokemon itself has its own issues that make it unlikely or unneeded/useless. I prefer sound as a move type (as mentioned) or theme, and dark itself isn't explicitly "evil," so I don't think we need light, plus fairy and fighting in my opinion fit that role well. Here are my personal reasons for why Light and Sound types don't really need to be added. I should note that I'm not against the ideas or hate people who just wanna see them btw.
Light: I feel like both aspects have already been covered. For the "purity" and "heroism", it's already done by the Fairy type. Pure kindness and good will is already their motto and before someone tries to correct me again, I KNOW. Actual fairies are horrible tricksters. I mean that 90% of Fairy type POKEMON are meant to be good little balls of kindness or are kind by nature e.g Gardevoir, the entire Cleffa line, etc (sorry, I've just had a lot of people telling me over and over again that they're evil. Never rudely, thankfully, but it is annoying when it happens over and over again). And yes, I know it is also the "magic" type, but Psychic and Dragon also already do magic so we aren't talking about that side. As for literal light, Electric type kinda already covers the scientific side through goofy cartoon electricity being incredibly bright and some Electric Pokemon being based on light sources e.g the Chinchou line.
Sound: making noise is something most living and non-living things do on the daily. It's extremely... well, normal. Scraping something makes noise, animals make noise to threaten or attract, etc. If a drop of water hitting a puddle makes noise, so can literal God himself aka Arceus. Plus, there are already "sound-based moves".
I simply don't feel like these types can work since their concepts have already been gone over by other existing types. But just like everyone, I do wish they existed.

I'm fully aware that in actual tales, Fae are mostly tricksters or just horrible monsters rather than cute little helpers. I meant more of Pokemon like Gardevoir. Retyped into Psychic/Fairy and all about being good and loyal. Most of the Pokemon that are or were eventually give the Fairy type have something to do with kindness and/or light energy is what I meant.
Heck, I'm British, we basically invented the lil guys.

Makes sense in light’s case, since I feel most things related to it could easily be covered by fairy or electric, but I think there’s an argument to be made for the sound type. It’s a much broader concept than people give it credit for.
Sure, it could simply just involve something that makes loud noises, but it could also refer to singing, musical instruments, percussion, echolocation, and even vibrations in the ground. Most light types I see could fairly easily be shuffled into another type and it would make just as much sense, but when it comes to, say, a Pokémon based off of sheet music, while you could maybe just shove it into the normal type or maybe psychic type, it would definitely fit a sound type much more. Not to mention, a type dedicated to such an interesting and broad subject opens the floodgates for a ton of cool fakemon concepts.
Anyway though, that’s just my opinion. The other type I like to use in fakemon creation is the food type, since, in a similar vein to sound, it’s a way broader subject than people give it credit for, not only is it the most fitting type for some goofy fakemon based off dishes, it could also apply to wider subjects like protein and the many sources of it, or the chemicals that provide sustenance to creatures on the deep ocean floor. Heck, it could even refer to sunlight since plants use it to sustain themselves!

      You do have a point.
However, I do want to say that if we try to design mons based on concepts of light without a light type, we will have to make them look inherently electric or fairy and that can interfere with what we're trying to do. Sure, Chinchou shows that it is possible but there's not a lot of Pokemon that put a focus on light. For this project however, I can imagine that we're going to have a lot of designs with a heavy focus on light so here, I think it's justified. Plus, a light type can be used to demonstrate ways of bending, reflecting, and filtering light instead of just ways of emitting light.
For sound though, I don't see much of a reason to make it its own type instead of making it an attribute of normal type. I can't imagine a lot of concepts that can be turned into mons unless we start going into like, music theory.

I think the biggest issue with "the light type" is that a lot of types already fill the role light types would
Fairy, fighting, electric. A lot of types already represent light or being the heroic balance against the dark
    As for a sound type...
I can kinda see it. Considering theres a large pool of moves based off attack, there are 2 abilities in the game that deal with "sound-based moves", and there are even sound based mons like the wismur line, chatot, and noivern. I can see sound being a type
The only issue is adding another type that doesnt off-set the chart already. Fairy was a good addition because it gave dragon another type to be weak to, gave dark a counter-balance, and made fighting types deal with a new weakness. It worked for fairy to be added.
So my only issue would be adding another type without adding more pressure to the type chart. Cuz I think after fairy, it will be a lot harder to make a new type that doesnt affect the type balance all too much
Other than my complaints (more of concerns about new types post-fairy) I think its the only fan-made type that coupd theoretically work and make sense in tur context of pokemon

There's a pokemon based on that fungus, and it controls alive ants not exactly dead ones (they do later die)..it's paras and parasect! Most Fungi are mushrooms..that's kinda the problem, it limits is a bit, I think the only Fungi that isn't a mushroom is molds (and yeast I think)? So a fungus type would only really have 2 options to base pokemon on: mushrooms or molds..unlike grass type as a whole which includes anything plant based and fungi as they look similar to plants (and making a unique typing JUST for fungi would be..boring? It wouldn't be as broad as the other typings)

I have 7 types I came up with weaknesses and resistances for that aren't just copy and paste from other media. I have 9 new types total, but 2 of them are Unknown (??? - Shadow Pokémon) and Nuclear (Pokémon Uranium). My other 7 are:
Light - Pokémon that encompass both being righteous and virtuous, and angelic, but also literal shining light.
Sound - Pokémon that utilize and harness sound waves. Also, heavily music/dance inspired.
Cosmic - Space Pokémon or Pokémon that utilize the moon, sun and stars to get stronger.
Cyber - Virtual Pokémon, or Pokémon that embody the idea of computer viruses and spyware/malware.
Wind - NOT Flying type. These are Pokémon that manipulate the air around them for various purposes, such as sharp wind blades, letting them float, or harden the air under their feet to create platforms of air.
Rubber - Pokémon either made of Rubber or that have extremely elastic/stretchy bodies, or simply a part of their anatomy that is stretchy/nimble/flexible.
Blood (or Hemo. Still unsure about the name) - Pokémon that not only manipulate the blood of themselves and others, but also can cause bleeding (a new status condition) and even manipulate the cells and antibodies of others, essentially making them sick. Needles and other laboratory equipment is a common theme here, too.

    1. Carnot cycle Pokemon. A possible Carnot cycle Pokemon could be named Carnomoo, which would be a Steel-type Pokemon. It would have a body structure that resembles a mechanical engine, with rotating gears and pistons visible as part of its design.
Carnomoo's ability would be called "Efficiency Mastery," which would allow it to maximize the use of heat and energy in battle. This means it can absorb heat from the environment or from its opponent's attacks and convert it into mechanical energy to boost its strength and speed.
In terms of moves, Carnomoo would have access to various attacks that represent different stages of the Carnot cycle, including Heat Absorption, Adiabatic Compression, Isothermal Expansion, and Adiabatic Expansion. These moves would allow Carnomoo to manipulate temperature and pressure to gain an upper hand in battle.
Overall, Carnomoo would be a formidable opponent due to its efficiency in energy conversion and its unique ability to manipulate heat and energy for its own advantage.
    2. A possible Higgs boson Pokemon could be named Bosopod, which would be an Electric/Water-type Pokemon. It would have a body design similar to a Isopod with a nucleus at its center surrounded by orbiting electrons.
Bosopod's ability would be called "Particle Master," which would allow it to manipulate subatomic particles to create electric and water-based attacks. This means it can change the charge of particles in the air or water to create powerful electric currents or manipulate the cohesive forces between water molecules to create powerful waves.
In terms of moves, Bosopod would have access to various attacks that represent different interactions and properties of the Higgs boson particle, including Gravitational Charge, Weak Nuclear Force, and Strong Nuclear Force. These moves would allow Bosopod to manipulate fundamental forces and interactions to gain an upper hand in battle.
Overall, Bosopod would be a versatile and powerful opponent due to its unique ability to manipulate subatomic particles and fundamental forces to create devastating attacks.

My Light and Dark types for my monsters (Crystures) have more to them conceptually than just light+goodness and darkness+evil. My Light type is called Aether Domain and my Dark type is Nether Domain. Aether encompasses more than just light, it encompasses light, creation, and life, the additive parts of reality. Nether does the opposite, it encompasses destruction, death (the act of dying and killing, not afterlife stuff, I left that to my Spirit Domain), and darkness, the more subtractive parts of reality. Overall, Aether and Nether are about adding and subtracting. I intend some (not all of them, that's boring) of my Aether Domain Crystures to look "angelic", and some of my Nether Domain Crystures to look "demonic".

I have not seen the video, but I will give my opinion about it, As for the Sound type, I think that the only thing they want is that the movements referred to that are covered. Certainly, I don't see any potential for that hypothetical elemental type, I mean, they will only be musical instruments and ultrasound, I can't think of anything else. As for the light type, I think that fairy and fight would already be left with the "good" thing. And Electric in terms of the physical. Personally, I would add a Technological type, let me explain why, technology is not just robots, it is everything that human beings create at their convenience. I mean, even a spoon is technology, and, thinking about it, this has a lot of potential, not only robots and mecha, they could also add pokemon that use objects or their environment to their advantage, it would also cover things like civilizations and aliens, but even more, It could cover pokemon based on art and others that have to do with humanity, that being said, it could be seen that this hypothetical type would be very varied, being able to cover everything from Blastoise and Rotom to Smeargle and Yamask, obviously they would not use this last type of pokemon missiles or anything, but their movements could have the "Technological" type.

I personally once made a 'Time' type, I prefer to ONLY add typings when it actually works well in-game AND as a logical typing that would fit in with a good amount of Pokemon-without encompassing TOO many. When Dark, Steel, and even Fairy were introduced, there weren't THAT many Pokemon that would fit into Steel or Fairy. Only one species for Steel, and I believe three or four for Fairy-which is NOT a lot all things considered! And I wanted to work in things like, what category of movesets does it encompass? Most types tend to lean towards certain stats-like defense for Steel.
I love the creativity of certain types, and while I'm not all for Light/Sound types-it's only because every time I see a video bringing it up, it feels like they only use it for the aesthetic alone-and don't work out what its weak/strong against and what stat it mainly leans towards.

Well! I think you helped me figure out the type for my Pokemon Loveletter game!
For context, im creating a dual-type system where every pokemon has two types - what they are, and what they do. Which means a Rock-Fire type would be different from a Fire-Rock type (the first one is made out lf rock and breathes fire, the second one is made of fire and throws/manipulates rocks). For STAB effects, your resistance is 75% of your fitst types resistance and 25% of your 2nd types resistance, so a plant type attack would deal about 1.625x damage to the first creature (Rock-Fire) and 0.875 to the second creature (Fire-Rock).
Anyways, because each type can be bkth what it is and what it does, i eas struggling with yhe relationship between controlling air/wind, bird attacks, being a cloud, and kf ibwpuld include sound, etc. But i think I might define it as a Wave type, encompassing both soundwaves and airwaves

Sound is pretty expansive in what it can encompass in terms of sound, like speakers, soundwaves, singers etc, but I feel it’s also pretty limited. You can’t deviate too far from those sorts of things or it won’t make sense why it’s a sound type. Light type though can range from being a cute forest spirit line to being something like a justice Pokémon of both light and dark types, to being something like a tyrannous upholder of justice (think something like kayle from league), to a lightbulb, to bioluminescence. There’s just so many things you can do with it, and it would be interesting to see what gamefreak and fans would come up with

Light is already in the game though, since it would do the same thing Fairy would do (It being strong against Dark and Fighting), so the type is redundant as Fairy and Psychic (And Electric) already cover that niche.

Just cause a similar type exists doesn’t mean a type can’t exist. They allow for different design conventions (though rock and ground really push that… they’re all basically boulders) and different advantages and weaknesses

what if you have a sound-type pokemon that's not literally about sound? like a water-type that's about waves that MAYBE you could interperit as sound? or a light-sensitive pokemon that can pick up waves and other kinds of signals like sound

I wanted to make a branch evolution for Charcadet based on soundwaves, like, have you seen sound be used actively as an attack? Or the potency some sounds have to, maybe not be fatal but can cause permanent damage, soundwaves that can only be heard by animals, so much potential

I feel like a “fungi” type would work pretty well in the franchise and possibly be a good addition if done right, sure it would be similar to grass, (not to mention grass already kind of takes the place of fungus) but it could be different enough to work. A couple Pokémon and moves off the top of my head that I can think of are obviously, Parasect, Breloom, and Foongus. Moves such as, spore and sleep powder could all fit into the fungus category. Fungus, like cordyceps often take other animals as hosts (such as insects) so, it is safe to say a fungus type would be strong against Pokémon with the bug typing. Fungus also decomposes many organisms after death; this would possibly make the type strong against ghost types and maybe even dark types. Mushrooms are often considered as good luck and are associated with fairytales meaning the type would most likely resist or not have any effect on fairy types, aswell as fairy types not having an effect on mushrooms. Many fungi prefer dark, sometimes damp, humid areas to grow in, so the water and dark types could be thought of as being taken advantage of by fungi meaning a fungus type would be strong against those two typings along with bug and ghost. As for its weaknesses, it would likely be similar to grass and bug, being weak to fire, flying, rock, and ice type moves. It would probably resist poison because many fungi are in fact poisonous when eaten, and maybe resist psychic because mushrooms are often associated with having psychedelic properties, some mushrooms even being intoxicating and leading to hallucinations. That’s all I could think of off the top of my head, but feel free to correct me on somethings if I got them wrong.

I personally think that Sound is very possible as a type to be added eventually, while Light isn’t.
Sound is very similar to the situation of Fairy. Lots of Pokémon already fit into it (which all just use Normal right now), and it is distinct as a theme/element. We even already have sound-based moves which could all be made into Sound type. Soundproof as ability could provide a Sound immunity (like Levitate does against Ground moves). It’s also been requested and theorised for so long now. It’s kind of a perfect type to be added because of all these things.
Meanwhile, Light already fits into the Fairy type. Light could mean nice, kind, heroic, and healing, which all fit with Fairy’s “nice” theme. And even the idea of Light as in brightness is kind of already done within Fire and Electric.
Another type I could see possibly being added is some kind of Digital type. Again, we have some Pokémon that kind of fit into this and are just Normal now (Porygon line specifically). It’s also relatively distinct (no other type covers its theme). But the case for this isn’t as strong as Sound.
Some people talk about ‘Cosmic’ type but that’s already part of Psychic imo.

The Problem is that Sound in itself is already covered with other types.
We have the likes of Bug Buzz and Grass Whistle as Sound type moves, but they also have a move in the name. The same goes for the newly introduced Psychic Noise. Those are as such never gonna be converted into the Sound type.
Then we also have the likes of Sparkling Aria (Water), Torch Song (Fire), Overdrive (Electric), which are never gonna be converted into the Sound type, since the Pokemon using them, despite being sound based Pokemon, are never gonna be converted into the Sound type, since 2 of them are starters (Primarina and Skeledirge) and the other one is Toxtricity (Which literally means Toxic Electricity).
Kommo-o is another Sound-Based Pokemon that is never gonna get a type change, since its a Psuedo legendary + design wise, it makes no sense to change it either. It also has 2 Sound based moves with Clangorous Soul and Clanging Scales, as well as an exclusive Z-Move.
There is literally no point in changing the non-damaging Normal type Sound based moves into Sound type, since they don't give STAB anyways. So that only leaves Boomburst, Echoed Voice, Round and Hyper Voice for convertion into the Sound type, which in turn ruins a Pokemon like Meloetta (Who by proxy of being a mythical also doesn't get the type change) or Oranguru, who doesn't make sense to be converted into the Sound type, but can use the Normal type Sound based moves, meaning the only Normal type special move it has if the sound based moves get converted, is Hyper Beam, basically rendering Oranguru absolete.
Even then, the Sound-Based Pokemon that can be converted and to make sense, aren't a lot either. Like, we have the Whismur line, Chingling line, Chatot, Bronzor line and Noibat line, but thats it.
Other Sound based Pokemon either already got a type change (Jigglypuff/Clefairy/Azurill lines), have a gimmick (Audino/Lapras), are starters (Primarina, Rillaboom, Skeledirge), is a psuedo (Kommo-o), Sound would literally mess up the localization name (Toxtricity), is a mythical (Meloetta), which as such aren't getting a type change.

This type many focuses on regenerating/healing (think of blood transfusions) and dealing status effects/prolonged damage (think of diseases transmitted by blood).
Not sure if it's any good but feel free to add your Pros and Cons about it.

I'd love a Light type. It would solve all the Psychic type issues. Plus I feel that the Fairy type should've been a counter to Dragon only and not Dark. So a Light type would help both cases.
