I had a chat to a mate who’s a Padi dive certified instructor (I might have got the nomenclature wrong) Anyway he explained to me the lengths he had to go to to dive to 70 metres on a wreck somewhere. It was unbelievable; pausing on the way up, three tanks he had to pick up etc etc. Anyway the point is no one needs more than 100m WR, because no one is going to go that deep. Let’s make and wear thinner, more comfortable diver watches. Enough hockey pucks.
Hey, 100m WR doesn't mean that you can dive to 100m. It's a bit weird but, 100m WR just means you can swims or snorkel just under the surface with it. If you're going to 100m which IS often professional diving, 300m WR is the way. 200m WR is for normal scuba diving or in this case, scuba diving navigation.
@@alfieakaronaldog got 2 Dover friends who regularly dive, they wear proper dive computers, not this rubbish, it's all marketing garbage.. They wear Casio 50m water resist on the other wrists, they dive to 20m plus regular and the Casio doesn't miss a beat.. Stop listening to the marketers and reviewers like this!
It’s lovely. No date, course bezel and crown. Countdown bezel is great for actual use. I know how long I have left for lunch or whatever. Good addition to Pelagos range. One of the best tie ins I can think of (all that space/moon stuff is a joke). Need an MN22 so I can wear it! Needs an aftermarket FXD specific strap.
One additional thing in terms of the differences between the FXD and the standard version that I don't think was called out here Jody is the coarser looking notches on the bezel on the FXD. The standard version has more notches giving a much smoother look, which I prefer tbh.
@@strangelove770I agree. I have the Black dial, RHD, 5 liner. It is without doubt the best watch I have ever held or owned (and probably seen). It has everything and can go anywhere. It would be as happy on a building site as it would at an exclusive dinner event in the city. Many watches try too hard and fail, the Pelagos looks like it hardly tried at all and yet completely smashed it.
I love it! It's a gorgeous watch and the lack of bracelet makes it seem absolutely bomb proof. I don't mind a material/elastic/nato style straps in general
Love the blue. Like the "No Date". The fixed lug, there are so many thousands of straps to choose from I've got no problem with it. Watch before strap.
I’m not bothered either way, just wish they were all bidirectional. I mean, who has ever accidentally knocked a ratchet bezel in either direction under water? Pointless things, unidirectional bezels.
I really love the originality of the bi-directional countdown bezel. I normally look at how much time I have remaining, such as a parking meter. Set the bezel to the limit on the meter, and the watch will tell you how many minutes you have remaining to get back to the car. On a regular dive bezel, the bezel is set to zero at the beginning. You will know how many minutes have elapsed, but how many minutes remain? Did you pay for 20 minutes or 40 minutes? The countdown timer does not forget that detail.
Never tired one on but it seems like the clasp seems like the best clasp system out there to get a perfect fit. Not sure why more brands don’t have something like this
I'm a fan too, I like that it's a bit weird. I actually think countdown timers have even better day to day practicality once used to the differences from a regular bezel. Great review as usual, all the best, Dan.

'French Navy' is a colour commonly used in fashion for… approximately this shade of blue. I suppose Tudor figured that for a Marine National-branded product they didn't need to specify that it was French Navy as opposed to Navy. When I was in the Canadian Army, the first line of Canadian Forces Dress Instructions was, 'Navy blue is a shade of black.'
Great observation, Lynette. The darkest shades of blue would be Midnight / Oxford / Navy (darker to lighter), with French Navy being a shade lighter than the traditional / British Navy. I saw a picture a few years ago of the Admiral in Chief of the French Navy next to his US counterpart, and his uniform is clearly of a lighter, more vibrant hue of blue. I personally like my blazers and sports jackets to be in French Navy, it's a bit more youthful.
Used to have a Pelagos LHD and while I loved it, the thickness led me to get rid of it. I was thinking of adding a BB58 to replace it.... Then my AD called to inform me my Submariner 124060 was ready for me to collect after a 4 month wait so I didn’t need a BB58 anymore 😅 3 weeks later, l got a call again offering me the Pelagos FXD - well what was supposed to do? The thinner case, fixed lugs, non Date and 4 liner was perfect for me so despite not having a bracelet, l didn’t care as l have the best bracelet with the Submariner. On my other watches, l wear it on straps and NATO’s anyway. So a Submariner 124060 and Pelagos FXD is the perfect combo, plus l also have a Seiko SKX custom as my beater.
Hi Jody! Nice to see you reviewing the Marine Nationale FXD watch. Always love to see your review format and style applied to any watch, regardless of price. Keep up the good work mate!
I think there is something Really important to understand about this watch is that it have been made as an order under the specification of the Commando Hubert' frogman (of the marine national). So every one of them got this watch as their navigation watch. It's a real military tool watch used everyday by frogmans, so for me it's difficult to complain about what they need for their work : fixed Springbar, navigation bezel, no date, Military spec NATO, etc

Awesome review as always Jody! I agree that while this is a great variation on the most mighty Pelagos, it isn’t quite what I’d be looking for personally but that’s ok. After all, I imagine that similar to the two tone Rolex Explorer, the FXD isn’t meant to be your one and only Tudor, it’s ideal for the person who already has a Black Bay 58 or an original Pelagos, maybe they’ve got the Black Bay GMT or the Chrono too and they’re looking for another Tudor to add to their collection. The FXD is a perfect fit for that sort of role in a collection.
@Nigel Molesworth it wasn’t meant as a slight, just that any niggles someone might have with this watch are lessened when you look at it as a second or third watch where you might like to have a few points of difference to change things up. I used Tudor the brand as an example but it could be one of any number of brands in a collection and as you point out, this could absolutely be someone’s only Tudor or indeed their one and only watch if they so chose.
Definitely looks good with that blue and that titanium case. Although a watch in my collection i feel as though its equal to or better in some specifications, is my Sinn EZM 3F. Still 200m, bi-directional countdown bezel, less text on the dial, left handed crown, 2mm smaller case and 1mm thinner. Plus it has all of Sinn's admittedly proprietary tech, and normal spring bars to boot. (who to they think they are Bertucci?) Sinn's price has creeped up in recent years but still half the cost of this Tudor.
I'm not the first to comment on it, but seeing a t-shirt from the university I went to on my favorite Australia living Scottish watch reviewer was the last thing I expected to see. I won't ask how that made its way to the other side of the world to you, but I love it! As for the watch, I would love if they took 2 lines of text off the bottom, cut the regular Pelagos to 200m, and used that more muted blue. That would be my ideal Pelagos. Some people would want it slightly smaller, but I don't. I think it's perfectly sized for those of us with medium to large sized wrists.
Being a fan of MoD milspec divers and fieldwatches (all with fixed bars since the 1950s or so) makes this perfect for me. Looks like I am going to need to start saving. Again.
Too many restrictions on the strap options for me but I love the standard Pelagos in black . Good shout re the potential black amended version of this one
Superb review - as always. I love how you tear into even the higher-end watches, showing no mercy. Half the time I don't even notice them, until you bring them up, which is why we appreciate you so much - you save us from ourselves! :)
Removal of the crenelated chapter ring, bidirectional bezel, 300m less water resistance and fixed lugs all make this a VERY niche offering. I can't agree that the original in-house movement is too thick, I don't find it thick at all tbh. The original was as close to perfect as I've seen a dive watch get frankly.

I love that the FXD is a tool watch designed for a specific job, not a "tool" watch designed to look pretty at the office. Also, the countdown bezel is every bit as useful as an elapsed time bezel, if you're actually timing something. I doubt 99% of people need a unidirectional elapsed time bezel for anything beyond bragging about how "real" their diver's watch is.
I use the bezels om my watches to time stuff all the time, the pip is rarely at 12, it's just a super convenient "stopwatch". A countdown bezel would probably work for me too, I'm just used to the regular dive bezels.
@@strandvaskeren I use my bezels for timing as well, but I don't need a unidirectional bezel for safety. My fusilli will be fine of its a bit over, or under cooked. 🤣
Agree about the thickness, indeed all your gripes about the original. I don't know why they don't get people to review before production runs. This looks good.
I liked this FXD when the first reviews came out but already find myself going off it. I like the simpler no date dial but yes, it seems the blue is a bit light. The fixed bars make perfect sense for this watch but again are a deal breaker for me. I actually wish there was a quartz option.
Lovely watch. It’s a collectors watch. You just couldn’t daily it. It’s not versatile enough based on its lug design mostly. But would I like to add it to my collection? Yes please!
So glad there's one more countdown bezel in the world. I use all divetime bezels backwards, many, many times every day. Just as you can't imagine how I got my preferences, I honestly don't follow yours either.
I really hope at some point they give the pelagos the BB58 treatment of make it smaller and slimmer (and preferably no-date, but I could compromise on that). A man can hope
Breitling needs this movement ASAP for the SOH, 12.5mm is perfect and they definitely need to put some real lume on the Heritage line- This Tudor is awesome!
I think it’s also important to note the actual case dimensions, which I was surprised Jody did not mention. He usually does. It’s 42.5 at the bezel… not case.
I wonder can I get a Pelagos cherenometer on Ali Express 🤔.. Joking aside, it's a good watch. I sold a Tudor a few years ago as I actually got a bit bored looking at it. I got my money back on it as it was in top notch condition, and I haven't felt the urge to buy another one yet. Excellent review as always. I agree with @Benji D who mentioned the changed bezel grip.
Hi Jody, Great review, the colour will be "French" navy blue which is a paler blue. I may be the only one but I have never liked the snowflake hand set. Keep up the good work
A great review Jodi. This is one of those models that you probably need to try on given the band options. I like the look of it and as you say the readability is very good as well. Personally I still prefer the standard model. I'm OK with the over engineered bracelet and on my 7" spindles it looks OK and is supremely comfortable. One of the reasons that I went for the LHD was that the name is in red text so at a glance it looks like it's shed a line. I'll not rule this version out though as I say It would need to be tried on the wrist.
I prefer a countdown bezel & wish more watches used it, had one on my sinn 104 & found it really useful.. I however would go for the bb58 in blue over the pelagos.
Prefer the standard’s 60 clicks as it is simply the best bezel ever made as is the legibility of the dial. So crisp! Love this watch. Miss mine but not the size.
I think that if you take into account the thickness of the NATO strap on the "Marine Nationale" we should not be very far from the thickness of the original Pelagos. I guess fitting this watch with a NATO strap conditioned the thickness of the case so it's in line with the original one. Thanks for the reviews.
This is a beautiful watch, and as a diver I would find this more useful - who in their right mind uses a watch for a bottom timer these days? The fixed lugs are a deal breaker though.
I really like this watch… the things for me that would need different for me to purchase is a different color! I can live with the other dislikes i have. Thanks for great content! As always
That watch is a work of art, beautiful. Could not live with the fixed lugs. Lots of money to time the morning eggs, but If I had the cash, I might be tempted. At least this would not live in the bottom kitchen drawer with all the other egg timers, waffle irons, those odd orange juicers and the least useful, the plastic poached egg thingy.
Jody, have you actually released a full review of the San Martin BB36? My last Chinese special is at the bottom of a lake, so I think the 36 or perhaps this FXD is the replacement.
This version brings up more questions than it answers. Why would Marine Nationale want a 200 meter limit just to have a slightly thinner watch (Doxa has thick watches that are used)? What is the advantage of not having the best bracelet in the business? And you can get a regular Pelagos for slightly less than 4k U.S. Its a no brainer that the original Pelagos with the in house movement is the best watch. And the LH Pelagos is numbered as well, they area sure to discontinue it soon.
Nice surprise to see this on your channel so soon! But I guess I should have expected nothing less from the mighty Mr. X! 😅 I love the fixed lugs! So much so that I bought a Bertucci field watch with similar case construction and fixed lugs for 60 £
Digging *the entire the Pelagos line. That said, does having 500m water resistance actually make the watch more “shock resistant;” or does it just speak to the water resistance? TLDR: does 500m water resistance make the watch more durable for dry land abuse?
A great 'drains up' review there Jody. I love Tudor and have done for many years, even before they became 'popular' again. I've always been split between the Black Bay and the Pelagos, this seems to bridge that gap, the fixed lug design is very 'military' and tool watch? The reduction in WR is nothing for us mere mortals/desk divers to worry about, a G-Shock will out perform most 200M 'diver' watches with functions to spare!
Brilliant looking watch, Id heavily consider buying it except that rubber strap looks absolutely terrible, it doesnt bend over sharply enough. It would have looked much better with a clip on style one like the Oris Aquis.
Why is countdown bezel impractical. I find them to make a lot more sense! If you're doing something within a set time, a countdown is more practical than a "countup". From 5 mins egg boiling, to 45 mins of baking, to 10 mins before the bomb goes off!
One of the young kids that work at the watch shop that I frequent somebody brought an old tutor In and wanted to sell it so he ended up picking it up it was really cool had an older Rolex movement in it I think the kid snagged a nice little bargain. I know tutor is owned by Rolex but I think if I was gonna get crazy and spend that kind of money on a watch I would get a tutor
I’m liking this one. I love single pass elastics and bought 20 from A close out at Cheapest Nato Straps for about $30 and wear the hell out of them. Buy I’ll stick with the Yema MN GMT. For now.
I've always thought the dive time bezel of my watch would be more practical if it were reversed, counting down instead of up. Maybe this is differing of world views.
I think Erika has made a MN strap already to fit this….would sort it out in the strap/fit department….both of the supplied ones pretty ordinary! Great review as always mate 👍
Ohhhh. What’s that? Have a link? I feel it could be thicker than a normal nato and designed around the fixed lugs. Could make a very unique and stunning watch.
Another fine review! For me Tudor is an aspirational watch brand. At least based on the price. On this model I do not care at all for fixed lugs. Being limited to single-pass straps and paying in excess of $5k to do so? I'm out. I surrender my place in line to those who really like this watch. You are welcome.😉
Thanks for the review, I love your take. Ultimately this is my perfect Pelagos, and made it into my collection. Just over a month, and zero complaints. Just a note on you comment about the straps: they do both come included with the base purchase price.
Congratulations Eric! I understand about the straps, but I wish they wouldn't lie and try to pitch one as being 'free', when it clearly isn't, it just comes with two straps.
The snowflake hands are my favourite hand set , just stunning :)

Such a beauty, definitely my favourite Tudor design especially with the new additions. I'd be on edge about scratching the titanium though.
"haiku of text beneath the pinion" absolutely superb 😂😂😂😂
Agree about the thickness, indeed all your gripes about the original. I don't know why they don't get people to review before production runs. This looks good.
"This isn't junior school mathematics, you don't have to show your working"
Ouch that hit me right in the engineering degree! 😂
I liked this FXD when the first reviews came out but already find myself going off it. I like the simpler no date dial but yes, it seems the blue is a bit light. The fixed bars make perfect sense for this watch but again are a deal breaker for me. I actually wish there was a quartz option.
Great video! As always! Did you notice a different winding experience compared to other watches!? Almost a very sponge like feel….
Yes and I cannot find it anywhere
The most I've wanted a Tudor, I think it's perfect
Breitling needs this movement ASAP for the SOH, 12.5mm is perfect and they definitely need to put some real lume on the Heritage line- This Tudor is awesome!
Looks just like my Pagani Design watch! These big brands need to stop ripping off cheap Chinese brands!
Ahahha! Stay tuned for a video on just that.
Absolutely bananas lineup of watches recently:D but the thinner watch is a big improvement 😊
Hi Jody, Great review, the colour will be "French" navy blue which is a paler blue. I may be the only one but I have never liked the snowflake hand set. Keep up the good work
I literally only use the bezel on my dive watches for timing cooking
One of the coolest watches right now. Fantastic! Great review as always
Be interesting to next compare the new Tactical Frog FXD homage 😏
Absolutely beautiful ‼️
Totally agree with you. Remove "Officially Certified" and that will make it a killer daily wear.
They are definitely getting there with the Pelagos .....
I would just wait they are bound to update the bracelet model soon and I bet they are looking to wow
I have seen one in person and tried one on.
It is excellent.
Really nice. Tudor are giving Seiko a really good run for their money at present. Battle of the higher end budget watches.
If I could find one I’d buy it tomorrow…! Love it
Looks great except for all of this scripture on the dial. Standard rotating bezel is just more useful in practice though, no?
Prefer the standard’s 60 clicks as it is simply the best bezel ever made as is the legibility of the dial. So crisp! Love this watch. Miss mine but not the size.
I think that if you take into account the thickness of the NATO strap on the "Marine Nationale" we should not be very far from the thickness of the original Pelagos. I guess fitting this watch with a NATO strap conditioned the thickness of the case so it's in line with the original one. Thanks for the reviews.
Man thats a clean watch with satisfying bi bezel action
Really keen on this and would love one. I reckon my 6.5” wrists would disagree with me owning one
Looks better on the bracelet but anyway compared to the Black Bay 58 is too expensive IMO. Good review! Tudor is a good value overall.
Thanks for another wonderful review, Jody! Always insightful, educational, useful, and entertaining. 👍🏻😊
Thanks Joshua!
This is a beautiful watch, and as a diver I would find this more useful - who in their right mind uses a watch for a bottom timer these days? The fixed lugs are a deal breaker though.
“Woah! I want the time, not your life story.” - Me, each time I see an essay written above the 6 o’clock.
So much so that I bought a Bertucci field watch with similar case construction and fixed lugs for 60 £
…and I am really into the dull, dirty grey look of the hook and loop strap! Think Phoenix nato straps in grey! 😃
Love it, especially the fixed lugs.
Digging *the entire the Pelagos line.
That said, does having 500m water resistance actually make the watch more “shock resistant;” or does it just speak to the water resistance?
TLDR: does 500m water resistance make the watch more durable for dry land abuse?
It’s closer to Pantone 18-4140, known as … French Blue. And since it’s the French Navy, that makes it French Navy Blue.
If it was available left hand crown. It would be pretty close perfect for me. The left hand option is what attracts me to Pelagos.
My brain says “I want one” but my pocket says “NO YOU DON’T”!!😔🙄🤪
I’m liking this one. I love single pass elastics and bought 20 from A close out at Cheapest Nato Straps for about $30 and wear the hell out of them. Buy I’ll stick with the Yema MN GMT. For now.
*A black ceramic bezel insert and orange dial 🍊 would be excellent.*
Im looking forward to the 39 blue
Mr. X and I are Instagram friends and I consider that a great honour.
Ha! Phil, if you knew the man, it wouldn't be much of an honour ;) Nah, he's actually alright, I suppose.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Ha ha ha ha! Fair!
Fantastic peice, wish the bezel wasn't count up but the thinness, the look, great colour too. Very nice. That nato is horrible mind.....
I've always thought the dive time bezel of my watch would be more practical if it were reversed, counting down instead of up. Maybe this is differing of world views.
Whoop! Awesome shirt!
Thanks and Gig 'Em
I think Erika has made a MN strap already to fit this….would sort it out in the strap/fit department….both of the supplied ones pretty ordinary! Great review as always mate 👍
Thanks Esbjorn! Mr X will be ordering a 'proper' MN for sure.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Ah, I see what you mean. Cheers!
amazing watch, I'll own a Tudor at some point, when I'm invested in stocks more so not going near one yet. Great video as always Jody!
