Thank you for the excellent video sir. This helps a new user to the Garmin 650 very much!
I am happy to help.. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
An excellent & informative overview / tutorial.
Thank you.
You are most welcome .. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Great information and video. As an aspiring IFR pilot that recently acquired a GTN650 this video is good information. I had distortion issues with the side tone on my rig that was finally corrected by grounding a pin on the audio panel forcing the audio panel to supply the side tone. Works great now. There are many additional features in the 650 that I am still discovering that really help flying IFR. Thanks for all the info.

very informative, well done and thanks. Only see it now.
Thank you .. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
It's definitely better, but still much lower than some of your other excellent videos. Great information! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah .. working on it. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Great info. Thanks

Nicely done! Very informative...building an RV-10 and about to retire from airline flying. Amazed at the technology out there. Have decided on Garmin 650 and G3X touch. Thank you.
Good decision! Fly Safely - Train Often DR
Great video, thanks. Does the 650 display current altitude anywhere?
No. So an instrument scan is still useful, yes? Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Thanks for the call out Loren. I think I have that corrected now. I republished the video. Let me know if the volume is still too low. It plays well for me on PC with Explorer.
Where did you get the GTN 650 simulator? I have the GTN 650/750 sim, but it's really just for the 650 as far as I can tell. Can you help me with this? Thank you for creating the video, it's very helpful!
Hi Robert, I'm glad you are finding the video helpful. I don't recall specifically where I got the sim but I suspect it was from Garmin. Here is a website for the flash version: www.gpsdirect.com/gtn/ There is also a free app for iPad. I recommend that you consider a training session in the aircraft with the GTN650 plugged in to a GPU. The avionics interface can be exercised then as well. Have someone knowledgeable with you to help. Fly Safely - Train Often
I'm just comparing it to your other videos. It has one-fourth to one-third the volume level of any of your other videos. If I jack up the volume on my system to hear this one, I get blasted out of my office when I pull up one of your previous ones.
Yeah this one was a problem .. see the revised edition with proper audio.. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Hi Dick, As usual - your videos are great. Audio on this one is very low. Must be a bug somewhere.
Yes indeed! Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Great Video. Just confused with the OBS feature. Does that suspend the gps when we are doing an approach.
Hi Richard, The OBS works the same way in modern panels as it did in Legacy style instruments. It allows the pilot to select any bearing to or from a point. This means that using OBS will preclude the computer doing anything associated with a flight plan because the navigator can only do one thing at a time. One advantage to OBS is that it is a quick way to get lined up with a runway at an airport without any approach procedures. I hope this explanation helps.
how do you change the default airport to where you want to fly out of?
Cover the field with the cursor and type in the new airport, press enter.. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Is there a link to practice on the computer like in the video?
Hi Jake, I’m afraid not. The best (and cheapest) simulator ever is in the cockpit with a qualified instructor pilot.. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
I hear ya (excuse the pun) I am not getting the same result. There is an audible hum in the sound track which I cancelled with the software ... this may be the issue.... new mic on order.. stay tuned
Low volume and started out blurry too (on iPad 3). Cleared up at two minutes or so. Just bought two to replace my 430s - would love this video a little louder. Tha is!
It should be fixed now. Fly Safely - Train Often .. DR
Thanks
