    In no way do we have any issues with the GTN 750Xi - it's a great unit, and very practical for many applications. The purpose of this video is to show why it may not necessarily be the best choice for all installations, and to demonstrate how capable the 650Xi really is when coupled with the G3X.
    Here, we take a look at the things you should consider before purchasing a GTN 750. Take a look at the eight reasons why you may not need it before you make a decision.

    I’ve been using both the older GTN 650 & GTN 750. Yes the GTN 750 is nice because if you don’t have a G3 X it gives you some extra real estate for your map. When I use the GTN 650 I use it on the default NAV page, where as I don’t need a map, I use that on my iPad following along with ForeFlight. This is true with some of the aircraft still have 90% steam gauges.

    Question: When space is limited and budget is of concern, what's wrong with tossing the right hand G3X and installing the 650, as Sling Academy uses in their Sling 2 trainers? Backup is G5. Mission is experimental IMC training.

    • @MidwestPanels

      Thanks for watching Judge Earl, Nothing at all wrong with that, the point was that instead of paying extra for a GTN 750 why not put it into a second screen, but if on a tighter budget by all means a 650 and one screen.

      No kidding! My King KNS80 went belly up a while back, and I wanted to upgrade to a 650 or 750xi. The cost was insane and I still needed to make other upgrades to get the most out of them. To get GPS steering, at least a G5 HSI. But, all I could do is use the lateral navigation of the systems. To get vertical guidance, I would need a new auto pilot!!! I finally bought a used KNS80 for $500 and gave it up. Now with 3rd world fuel prices, I think I did the right thing. (Thanks Brandon!)

    I'm getting a tone that sounds like someone plucking a guitar string. Can't tell if it is the GTN 750 or the GTX345. I can't correlate it to anything happening inflight either other than only inflight. I pulled the breaker on the GTN750 and the sound didn't occur while it was pulled. I got a transponder failure message also. Putting the CB back in, I had a Comm needs repair message.

    I don’t know about the new 650s but the older 650s require the Flight Stream 510 to connect to your iPad (I think I paid around $1500 back then to have it added). I have dual 650s in my aircraft and the Flight Stream makes them awesome! I considered the 750 but everything is so much easier as far as flight planning on the iPad. The Flight Stream 510 is a must! Thanks for the video guys.

    • @MidwestPanels

    Very informative. Your point regarding the pricing difference between the 650Xi & the 750Xi is valid but, the 750Xi is just too darn sexy to turn my back on. Additionally, my aircraft has plenty of panel space to accommodate the 750Xi and; this aircraft is an investment. I always look at resell marketability & return on my investment. The Garmin 750Xi on my panel rings both bells.

    Could you go into item #8 - the audio control. I wasn't quite sure what you meant by the limitations on the 650 over the 750. Are you able to manage the remote audio using the G3X panel?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  2 роки тому +2

      Yes Brian,
      Yes you can control the GMA 245/245R from the G3X but not from the GTN. For those without an EFIS they can have a GMA 35C controlled from a GTN 750. There are some that believe you can only remotely control an audio panel from the GTN 750 which would only be true in an airplane that has steam gauges and was using a GMA 35C

    • @ibgarrett
      @ibgarrett 2 роки тому

      @@MidwestPanels I figured as much and thought I’d seen it that way in others videos. I guess the way I heard it in the video that it wasn’t possible from either panel.

    I'm installing a 11 inch G3-X a 7 inch G3-X, and a GTN 650. What about using a GTN-750 instead of the 2nd 7 inch G3-X and a GTN 650? Screen sizes are about the same but the 750 has the added benefit of a nav/com. Also, the cost would be about $4,000 less vs the combo. Thoughts?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  Рік тому

      We would do the 7 inch over the 750. As for the Nav/COM, you will get that with the GTN 650 anyway, if you replace the 650 and the 7 inch with a 750 the cost will be about equal so I'm not sure how you would save the $4,000 unless you found a good used deal somewhere. The 7 inch functions as an MFD better than the 750 alone, the 7 inch would also go into reversionary and act as the PFD giving you more useful information such as engine indications should the PFD fail.

    I might be jumping the gun here but you can legally use an approach plate loaded on the 750 during approaches. So if you don't want to use paper or foreflight on an ipad you can have everything you need loaded on the panel. This is a big deal for me personally.

    • @Robinbamv
      @Robinbamv 10 місяців тому

      I have the approach plates loaded on my G500 but find it more convenient to brief from the iPad as the screen resolution is better, however I do fly approaches with the plate displayed. In the final stages of approach and when taxing the plates on the screen are at their most useful as it gets rid of the cockpit clutter at times of high workload.

    Could you comment on using an aera 760 on the right side of the panel rather than another G3x screen? What does the extra screen give you that an aera would not? And how much is the second G3x screen compared to the first? Thanks

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  Рік тому

      The one thing you will get over the 760 by having the second screen is that you get a hard wired reversionary backup. This will give you a PFD and engine indications should the PFD fail which doesn't seem like much but if you are in actual IMC and you lose your engine indications it could be quite troublesome since use power settings to obtain speeds on an approach. Otherwise the 760 is really a good deal, especially for VFR flyers.

      An issue for many experimental aircraft. Let it be known that in no way do we think the 750 is a bad unit. But when panel space is a premium as is the case for many aircraft (not all) it’s not worth hurting the integrity of the panel to fit one in. There is no added benefit other than screen size.

  • @scottfranco1962
    @scottfranco1962 10 місяців тому

    the 750 is too damm big. They needed an intermediate size like the 530 was. If you have to push stack avionics like the audio and transponder right, then control them via the 750, something is wrong.
