      My 2020 Forte GT has a electronic wastegate. The OE"s have been doing it for awhile now, it was only a matter of time. 60 ft times are about to drop again. EWG is available on the Burger JB4 on the Stinger but not on the Forte GT yet and I think the PnP Motec M142 will work on the Forte GT.

      Reliability has been a factor. That's a lot of heat right there at the turbo outlet. To have electronics that would reliably work after extensive heat cycles is what comes into question. The technology is finally coming to light.

    As I expected it would work. It looks like it may be adjusted without a spring and only a actuator so the wastegate is under constant control. Looks like the wastegate motor will need to run constantly to open and close as your driving. I would have gone slightly different I still would have installed a spring but one that is compressed by a actuator to the correct pressure and that needs no power until you want to adjust the pressure. 2 ways to kill a cat I guess lol my design has less wear and tear. • @1one3_Racing
    @1one3_Racing 3 роки тому

    This is great. Right up to the point that it comes unplugged or the motor fails and you cram 90 psi into your motor.
    I don't see the passion in making things more complicated than they need be. I can see the applications but I also know what 20 year old electronics are like and cringe to think about the issues cars will have in future when FFR and autopilot and things like go wrong.

    • @QUICKSHIFTtv
      @QUICKSHIFTtv  3 роки тому +6

      What’s more complicated.. wires driving a motor or two vacuum hoses running to a solenoid with wires that run to a housing with a moving and perishable diaphragm in it...
      I would argue that turbosmart vastly simplified the whole thing and removed heaps of failure points!
      No more split or blown vac hoses for starters! Or jammed MAC boost control valves

    • @1one3_Racing
      @1one3_Racing 3 роки тому

      If a manual waste gate fails you automatically default to spring pressure, I.e. boost goes down.
      If this idea fails and it sticks closed you go to infinite boost.
      Whenever you automate anything it adds failure points.
      You see more 1960s Mercedes Benz on the road then you do 1990s, for instance.

    • @QUICKSHIFTtv
      @QUICKSHIFTtv  3 роки тому +5

      There’s so many ways an external gate can fail creating overboost.
      Leaking diaphragm, blown vac hose, seized valve in closed position, jammed MAC valve in the wrong position for the layout.. I see what you’re saying but at the same time I think you might be glorifying the reliability of traditional gates... they go wrong often!
      In any case, if you have an ECU worth using, you have overboost protection

    An electronic wastegate with a stepper motor?! Hell Yeah! But will it push the valve shut when activated?

    • @fredericrike5974
      @fredericrike5974 3 роки тому +1

      Because they deal with uncouth "Muricans! FWIW, the US has "officially" been a metric country for a long time- that said, until the ISO standards, that affect all inbound trade to the EU and several of our other trading partners (Japan) US mfg's weren't very serious about it. Since that point, the move has been greatly accelerated- even the oil biz, long dominated by some pretty reactionary attitudes, now almost exclusively uses metric, except in announcements outside it's core groups.

    Why are you giving people bad information? These gates need a steady 20amp current with a peak even higher. So tell me what ecu can support these? Possibly the high end motec but dont quote me. Haltech 2500 cant, infinity cant. It's going to be a few years before these can be used.

    • @sciencewithhunter9983
      @sciencewithhunter9983 3 роки тому +2

      Why are YOU giving people bad information? The current requirements are publicly published on the turbosmart website and what you state is absolutely false and incorrect. The gate uses high current for burst movements only and position hold or slow movements when modulating position require very low to no current. EMtron has videos of their ECUs running these gates on 20A drivers. I'm sure more ECUs will announce support in time.
      In theory even low current drivers can be programmed to operate the gate, at reduced peak movement speed.
