Tony/Ridley Scott/Denzel combo movies has never gone wrong.
Denzel doesn't fit this setting at all.

Denzel's character is based on Septimius Severus, the black Roman Emperor from 193 to 211 who turned the government into a military monarchy
Nothing gets me going like having some hip hop in a sequel to Gladiator.
The trailer looks great full of action. But the music is not great.
You have to realize the music will not be Play Jay-Z's music will not be played in the middle of the movie black people break the atmosphere everybody knows that it's common Sense usually movies like this are played at the end when the credits are rolling to get people hyped up when the chills are finally settling obviously Jay z will not be playing in the middle of a period piece you know that right.... Or have you never seen a movie in your life and you don't know how promotion goes.... Jay Z's going to do what he wants to do he's one of the most powerful musicians ever.. he's in control of the super bowl halftime show and he has been doing the last three super bowl halftime shows so he's going to do whatever he wants to do... It's about taking over the world...

When has it been used in past Scott trailers?
You technically have three emperors in this movie. Because Macrinus (played by Denzel) in Roman history Macrinus was a Roman gladiator trainer who overthrough the current emperors Geta (Joseph Quinn) and Caracalla also in the trailer. Then Macrinus became Emperor.
What is annoying is the incels complaining about the diversity of the movie and claim it is too woke for having Denzil Washington in A movie set in Ancient Rome. It is like they have read any real history and just go by what Hollywood has shown them before. There were plenty of black people in Rome and there were Roman Soldiers from the African Roman Legion who helped conquer Britain and even a Black Roman Emperor called Septimius Severus and they still don’t accept historical facts.
It is like that new video game Assassin Creed set in ancient Japan and there were huge complaints about the main character in the game being Black, even though the character is based on a real African warrior who helped create Japan called Yasuke, they couldn’t accept a black man being in ancient Japan in a fictionalised game.
These Incels need to realise there was an western agenda to erase black history and contributions to world history to make black people seem less civilised and more other to justify the money the west was making from exploiting black people during colonialism and slavery. And now Hollywood is a little more enlightened and not whitewashing history like turning Bass Reeaves the black Cowboy Marshall life story into the Lone Ranger or representing Ancient Egyptians as olive or white coloured people, when they were an African-Arab mix people, the incels are struggling to adapt to Hollywood no longer showing history as white only.
Nothing makes my eyes roll to the back of my head quicker than the "gO w0Ke, g0 bR0kE" crowd. Early Hollywood was a lot like Fox News in the sense of constantly satisfying the cravings of uneducated bigots, and feeding their need for comforting fiction of the way things were and are.
I was hoping they'd sprinkle a little of the original Hans Zimmer score in there.

Say what you want about Sir Ridley, but the man directs with more energy at 87 than a lot of younger directors now and days.

I'm excited for the better cast of this sequel. Pedro, Denzel, Jack and Paul. But I still think the movie will be somewhat divided, apparently from the modern era, with hip hop. What is not left for history. But we'll see

They almost got me interested w/Denzel being Denzel & Pedro being Pedro + a water battle in the Coliseum 😮 But this trailer showed almost the whole movie = I'll hold off seeing this until the movie reviews come out.

I think they’re going to do a cameo of Russell Crowe but it’ll be CGI like Indiana Jones. I hope this is not true but the scene with the ring makes me think they might.
Visuals look good. Dig that they show a naval battle in the coliseum, but the trailer was just off for me. Weir choice of music. Hopefully Ridley Scott has made a film close to as good as the original.

I liked the trailer. Not of fan of the more hip hop rap music as the first movie just had an orchestral music to it. I am hopeful but not sure. Gladiator remains one of my top 10 all time favorite movies so we'll see where this places.

Great, but I still think a Spartacus reboot would be better, there is enough story for a trilogy (the TV/streaming show was very entertaining). It's staring movie makers right in the face and nobody is jumping on this, just my opinion, I'll take a Gladiator 2 :)

The original movie was much more than action and battles... it's actually the first movie (and one of the rare ones) to have made me cry.
It's a deep, touching story, with complex characters. and i hope the sequel will be just as character driven, and not just big action set-pieces just for the sake of it. I like bloody battles as much as the next dude, but Gladiator didn't win the Best Movie Oscar because of those.
And WTF with the music in that trailer? The Original's soundtrack was magistral, why not re-use it here... why modern hip hop bullshit? When it kicked in, i just rolled my eyes and cringed instead of having shivers and teary eyes...
I hated the music for this. It just needed an epic score not rap. I can’t wait to see what Joe Quinn does with Emperor Geta. Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal looked good in this as well.

Trailer was 🔥 and i highly doubt folks would be whining about the music if it was van halen or ACDC 😂.

The music was 100% wrong for the trailer of an epic time-period movie like this. The visuals were strong. The story seems promising. But the modern music nearly kills my entire enthusiasm for this film. This modern song or any other is probably (hopefully) not going to be used in the film... but that Ridley Scott allowed a trailer company to overlay the trailer with modern music (or chose so himself) really makes me question the overall decision-making here.
How about the British accents in a movie said in Italy about Roman gladiators having British accents in an epic time period movie like the first gladiator. That that fact didn’t bother you? We know you guys like your history whitewashed, except that’s not what history is about.

The music choice for this trailer was terrible and ruined the enjoyment of watching it. I hate when period piece movies put modern music in the trailers, it’s always bad.
I hope there are some fan edits where we get some appropriate music.
When TV surpasses the quality of movies. It’s hard to get excited over this.

@@ambreenzafar7303 usually soundtracks that are played during the trailer or actually part of the film but they only play them during the end credits when the movie is over so it won't break the theme of the movie which is a Roman piece. So most likely Jay-Z is a part of the film in the end credits to hype everybody up and have them feeling excited at the end it will not be played during the actual movie as Rihanna's song for black panther was not played during the movie it was played at the end because Rihanna would overshadow the whole movie

I've been watching you for year rocha...but why do you like everything that's clearly dog crap. This trailer was horrible. They showed the whole movie. Denzel plays Denzel..a Chilean in Rome? Rap music in a movie about ancient times?.wth
And Craig plays Craig of limited brain and experience in film.. go watch Denzel and much ado about Nothing, or the Pelican Brief or Man on Fire , oFallen or DeJaVU (2009) too many of you filmmakers only lack a certain type of movie, so when you watch it, those parts are written very similar. Change up your film, watching or shut up.
