I'm always honored to hear choirs perform this piece on youtube . . . I have to say that of all the lovely performances I've heard, this one TRULY captures the style and feeling I have in mind when I wrote the the arrangement. Thank you for singing it with such musical spirit and heart. Love, love, love it! Sincerely yours, Susan Brumfield :)
I will never fail to tear up when I hear this piece. The women’s choir did this when I was in high school, and being in the men’s choir I cried every single time I heard them rehearse or perform this. One of the most impactful pieces of music I’ll ever hear and one I’ll carry with me the rest of my life.
I have to agree with Susan Brumfield. I love this, and there is no other way than to have a childrens choir sing this. I have heard it from the BYU Idaho Collegiate Singers and the Womans Choir of St. Olaf, but this is the best one so far. Wonderful.
Tour Coir have had so many beautiful pieces, but then again I guess we have too. I just am in the audience when Tour Coir sings. I can't wait until I get to hear this year's selection.
This is my favorite version I have found on youtube! Its very pretty and I like this one best cause it flows, it doesn't sound so technical like other choirs I listened to on youtube.
Ms. Brumfield, This is a marvelous piece of music, and my varsity choir is presently learning it. Spivey Hall's is indeed a superior performance of the song. I hope we are able to achieve that same high level of musicianship. On our music, the suggested tempo is quarter note equals 72 beats per minute. The Spivey Hall performance is more along the lines of quarter note equals 56 beats per minute. I like the slower tempo, and I want to confirm that you are ok with it, too. Thank you very much.
Jaida I am a director, a singer, and a private teacher. Sometimes it is easy to go for the round sound because it's what might sound best immediately even if it get younger voices to collapse down, drop their tongues which depress the larynx, and keeps the natural bright resonance out of the sound. While it may be a good sound for a group, I don't always love the things people do to make sound like that. It's actually quite a challenging thing to do even for the most mature and technically proficient singers, yet often choir directors expect their untrained and young voices to be able to make that sound in a healthy way.
@Leafclan99 Lol! me too!!!! I usually can't STAND Mondays but now, at least I have something to look forward to! Hahaha, are you currently in the childrens choir? or the tour choir? :)
@Leafclan99 Aww! awesome! I wonder if we have met, I just don't know it! you should inbox me your name!!, you might not want to put it on here. it might be dangerous! :(
TheGood-TheBad TheScribble I would say they sound correct for their age. One of things about creating extra space or over darkening is that you are asking kids to create a mature sound in an artificial way. It's refreshing to hear a group sound appropriate for their age!!

4:47 was so good. It is such a pleasure to hear the male voices supporting that part.
It's obvious that the singers love performing this song and giving their best for the conductor. Wonderful job!
I'm in children's choir. Nothing's better than spivey and they prove it on this piece everytime

Agreed! Iwas wondering if you know the name of the composer/arranger? I'm interested in buying the sheet music for my school choir. Thank you :)

Why didn't I stay in Georgia for this?! -3
Not enough soprano ones but still still really good. The guys made it sound extra rich.

@impactsoccerqueen28 Children's*
ROUND VOWELS HMU
Conducted by Martha Shaw
Thanks, Andrew. It was an assumption from wishful thinking on my part!
I know.. :/
I can't hear the basses at all
there's not supposed to be bass, it's a treble choir made up of only 1st and 2nd soprano and 1st and 2nd alto :)
Nice, though I do wish there was less dipping every other word. Otherwise beautiful:)
tbh they need to sing with more space in their mouths. they sound like pop singers and that's not the intent of the song.
TheGood-TheBad TheScribble I would say they sound correct for their age. One of things about creating extra space or over darkening is that you are asking kids to create a mature sound in an artificial way. It's refreshing to hear a group sound appropriate for their age!!
Are you a director??
I agree with jay winston
Whatever that drawl is you had them do makes y’all sound more like a jr high choir trying to sound like a gospel choir…poorly.
