@B738pilot There is minimums, there always is wether autoland is used or not as this is when the flight crew decide whether to complete the landing or not (or let the autopilot do so in this case) you can hear the GPWS call the minimums at around 50 feet on this video. In some airlines SOP's the pilot monitoring will call "Decide" and the pilot flying will call "Land" or "Go Around" depending on the situation. This is the same as minmums called by the GPWS.
Hi! So... The autopilot disconnects at touch down! The minima are set for 50 ft.! In this case both landings are performed auto land Cat.3A! Maybe at the second one the auto pilot was disconnected with 1 second before touch down, anyway below 10ft... For your information: *Cat.3A - Decision High is 50ft. or more and RVR 200m or more; *Cat.3B - Decision High is 0ft. or more and RVR 75m or more. Greets!
Wow nice vdo! I still got a question. That alarm during touchdown was it the sound of the autopilot? Well the same sound is on Flightsimulator when i turn off the autopilot.
Interesting seeing the yoke moving around so much on the CAT III, it's pretty much just like it was being flown by a human with all those fine adjustments being made.
In parts is ILS. He landed with an ILS CAT III, for visibility under 10 meters. And the lights you can see in the runway is called ALS (Approach Light System), just to give him the reference. That's it Hugs from Brazil to world wide aviation enthusiasts. =]
well, if you look at the second landing of the aircraft the center line is on the right side of the cocpit it does not go through the "middle of captain legs" as instructed in the manual, therefore, the aircraft did land a bit to the left, maybe there was a slight crosswind or other issue...
Damn, I have never heard of the minimums being set that low before, I always thought that they were usually arround the 200 or 300 mark. But what do I know. Great Video!
All landing aren't done automatic. Your correct in that this was a CAT III approach, probably A or B. Depending on the visibility most aircraft fly manually with ILS and glideslope to follow. Automatic landing are only perfomed when the RVR is at unreasonable limits hence the catergories.
I think even if I knew I was doing an autoland and I was perfectly on course and gs and everything, I'd still get a heart beat until I finally see the rwy lights! I even get it when I'm on my flight sim some times...
You can put the camera on the glare shield and tape it down. The second way is to use alot of duct tape and put the secure the camera around the headrest of the jumpseat.
Modern day wizardry how they land those things in zero visibility. Absolute no margin for error, and you the runway always appear where is supposed to appear. Just amazing...
ICAO classifications --- CAT I: DH min 200FT, RVR min 550m or vis min 800m. CAT II: DH min 100FT, RVR min 350m. CAT III/A: DH lower than 100FT or none, RVR min 150m. CAT III/B: DH lower than 50FT or none, RVR min 75m. CAT III/C: no DH lower than 50FT or none, no RVR limitations (rare). DH=decision height, RVR=runway visual range, vis=visibility, FT=feet
the minimums can change based on the CAT of ILS they are doing..the minimums can be around 200' on down to an autoland with no minimums..looks like this approach was a CAT IIIB with a 50 ft. DH..
i've been in a 757 cockpit before and talked to the pilots, but now i'd like to film the take off and landing. i don't know if i would let the crew film with my camera, since they wouldn't know how i want it to be filmed. :) but thanks for your answer, anyway!
i have a question. maybe it's a pretty stupid one, but who must i contact if i want to film inside of the cockpit during a take off and landing? i think it's kind of hard, these days, with all the terror. I'm a really big aviation fan and love to film.
question to all you commercial jet liner pilots when the navigation system is in gps mode, do you still have to make adjustments on the autopilot panel?
Planes do not exactly autoland..... They have an approach function on their autopilot which fly's the approach for them until they reach a certain altitude where the pilot disengages it and lands manually....
Over the course of one winter we went 50 days without seeing the sun, and by that I mean there were not 2 continuous minutes of sunshine at any point in those 50 days.
that's a System named ILS, this system found with a funtion od aproch to the runway, so, it's a aproch but not a totally landing, coz the pilot should to give direction to the plane on the runway and sometimes to the breaks =)
Negativ! The noise is from gear-up! All the landings are done automatic (auto-land) Cat3A. You can hear the autopilot disengages after touch down and minima at 50ft RA.
thanks, I see that this is not a car... if you look at the second landing it was an ILS CAT III (full autoland) landing. Then look at the center line, it is aproaching to the left (at the end of the video). When I land with ILS CAT III the aircraft does not all the time land on the center line. Try to land with some crosswind up to 15 kts and you will see the aircraft will not land onto the centerline...
Minimums has nothing to do with autoland and there is no such thing as "autoland with no minimums" there will always be minumums whether autoland is used or not. Minimums is the height in which the flight crew must verify that all stabbilised approach criteria have been met in order for them to continue the approach.
That is a scary scenario. Not being able to see the runway unless you are 100 feet above it! It looked cool though: all of a sudden lights are coming out of the gloom!
The video of the approach was good for ILS even with the hard landing. However, you listen to all that rattling noise its sounds like he flying a 1950's Ford in need of a valve job.
Awesome freaky foggy approach video man. I love it how the first thing you see is the first stripe of runway lights!
That foggy landing in Vienna brings back memories of the 10 years I lived there from 1990-2000. It has to be one of the foggiest places on earth.
@B738pilot There is minimums, there always is wether autoland is used or not as this is when the flight crew decide whether to complete the landing or not (or let the autopilot do so in this case) you can hear the GPWS call the minimums at around 50 feet on this video. The magic of radio navigation, my friend.
I like that mood in the cockpit during foggy conditions! Feels like home to me. :)
Was it a cargoplane?
ty for the video!
Exellent Job!!! 50 foot minimums, that is just amazing!!!! Good Cat III navagation!
Awesome landing!!! Very interesting and excellent video!! Great job.........
Wow nice vdo!
I still got a question. That alarm during touchdown was it the sound of the autopilot?
Well the same sound is on Flightsimulator when i turn off the autopilot.

Cool takeoff and fog landings. Landed in Chicago with that much fog.
In parts is ILS. He landed with an ILS CAT III, for visibility under 10 meters. And the lights you can see in the runway is called ALS (Approach Light System), just to give him the reference. That's it

Nice! ILS Cat III. Just a Question: Auto Rollout only in the NG's?
Damn, I have never heard of the minimums being set that low before, I always thought that they were usually arround the 200 or 300 mark. But what do I know. Great Video!
i'm a pilot and this is one f the most hard landing we can do...because rog in wien it's very low and we can't see....good job pilot
All landing aren't done automatic.
Your correct in that this was a CAT III approach, probably A or B.
Depending on the visibility most aircraft fly manually with ILS and glideslope to follow.
Automatic landing are only perfomed when the RVR is at unreasonable limits hence the catergories.
At 58 seconds, what is that 'alarm' I hear? Just curious - love these vids!
yes it was. You can see by the moment of touch down, the pilot turns off the AP and aply reverse.
I think even if I knew I was doing an autoland and I was perfectly on course and gs and everything, I'd still get a heart beat until I finally see the rwy lights! I even get it when I'm on my flight sim some times...
Are you working for Lauda Air??
Great Videos!!
You can put the camera on the glare shield and tape it down. The second way is to use alot of duct tape and put the secure the camera around the headrest of the jumpseat.
NG-series 737's do not have rollout-mode, you can hear the AP disconnecting sound at 1:02
only thing I see that could be corrected with the autoland is its slightly left of the centerline. Other than that its pretty impressive
Modern day wizardry how they land those things in zero visibility. Absolute no margin for error, and you the runway always appear where is supposed to appear. Just amazing...
What would we do without ILS in that weather?
Very good vid
so for instance, for poor visability you get cat3, and better visiblity cat2 or cat1 right?
or the other way around. thankx wamux.
@Sseba1 It is the sound of the brakes. Pilots have to stop the wheels from spinning before retraction
ICAO classifications --- CAT I: DH min 200FT, RVR min 550m or vis min 800m. CAT II: DH min 100FT, RVR min 350m. CAT III/A: DH lower than 100FT or none, RVR min 150m. 0:59 Why there is an alarm sounded ? Sounds like terrain. Any ideas ?
the minimums can change based on the CAT of ILS they are doing..the minimums can be around 200' on down to an autoland with no minimums..looks like this approach was a CAT IIIB with a 50 ft. DH..

Is this performed by autoland?
Did auto throttle land warning set off alarm?
Planes do not exactly autoland..... They have an approach function on their autopilot which fly's the approach for them until they reach a certain altitude where the pilot disengages it and lands manually....
Wow !! Passengers miss a lot, that's for sure ! what was the noise heard between 0:59-1:01? Anyone knows?
das nenn ich mal Nebel! Gute Arbeit!
A very very good ILS CATIII landing!
brilliant video
What's the decision height on those landings? 50 feet?
Over the course of one winter we went 50 days without seeing the sun, and by that I mean there were not 2 continuous minutes of sunshine at any point in those 50 days.
that's a System named ILS, this system found with a funtion od aproch to the runway, so, it's a aproch but not a totally landing, coz the pilot should to give direction to the plane on the runway and sometimes to the breaks =)
Would have earned a groan from the cabin, however any landing you can walk away from is a good one ;-)
Hell yeah..... AUTOLANDS!!! JAJA XD Great vid man..
So you are supposed to rotate at V1?
Negativ! The noise is from gear-up! All the landings are done automatic (auto-land) Cat3A. You can hear the autopilot disengages after touch down and minima at 50ft RA.
In ILS CAT III b and c there are is minimums, the autopilot can lead the plane all the way down the runway
what are the 4 other lights on the left?
It is, almost impossible to land manual with that fog. You can hear the pilot too the AP disengaging when landed.
How many pilots are in the cockpit? 3! But you can see only 2? The 3rd is the autopilot!
whats the difference between cat1 , cat2 , cat 3 approaches?
Auto land means 'autoland'... last information I had is that the pilot must ensure the aircraft stops, but 'autoland' means just what it says.
"minimums" indication was too close to land, wasn't?
thanks, I see that this is not a car... if you look at the second landing it was an ILS CAT III (full autoland) landing. Then look at the center line, it is aproaching to the left (at the end of the video). When I land with ILS CAT III the aircraft does not all the time land on the center line. Try to land with some crosswind up to 15 kts and you will see the aircraft will not land onto the centerline...
if the beacon is equipped with DME, that'll tell u and if not, stop the time and check ure speed...
sorry to say , but there is no such think as a 50' min. great auto pilot to min on first approach. but something seems a little fishy on the last.
good work sir*****
Thats gotta be the hardest landing ever
!
woow.... good video
What is that alarm when you land?
wasn't that the A/P disconnect ?
lol to use ILS in like invisible conditions must be soo scary for the pilots because you don't know if it's got it right until the last minute ;D

IS THAT SNOW (01.25)?
how old is this video?
Always use Rear fog lamps under these conditions!
is the autopilot disengage sound
nice landings. ah what it must be like to sit on the business end of something powerful like that, too bad I'll have to be content with MSFS :(
That is a scary scenario. Not being able to see the runway unless you are 100 feet above it!
It looked cool though: all of a sudden lights are coming out of the gloom!
Are you a real pilot?
This one is soooo Cooool!
can someone tell me how do you set up the AP for landing???
Why does he stall en both landings ?
PAPI lights ?
It was a CAT 3 autoland
Very interesting!
oh god...
when u heard approaching mins at 100ft
its catIII...
and you dont have to disengage the AP between 5k to 2k feet, in this kind of ILS app.
Man, balls of concrete. Flying along in soup...then there is the runway!
this can't be real the camera doesn't move a bit compared to other videos
The video of the approach was good for ILS even with the hard landing. However, you listen to all that rattling noise its sounds like he flying a 1950's Ford in need of a valve job.
yea thats the autopilot disengage alarm.
Nice, Austrian flies the 738 as far as DXB
@dpurdue Right after it, sequence is V1 Rotate v2
Fantastico!!!!!
this is a CAT IIIA, MdH of 50f.. nice one
the rotate was a bit hard
It's gear up noise!
how could you feel confident enough to fly when you can't see a thing! that always bothers as a passenger ...
just beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllllll:D
Look at the MFD!!! Brill Vid!
thankx high tech seriously
the quality is a little bit bad..
stall? lol?
That was the autopilot disconnecting sound :|
as far as i know minimums is above 100 not under strange huh.Maybe is the fog:)
Oh man it's really foggy
aka Lauda Air?
como vergas le hacen para aterrisar sin contacto visual
