Yes. Fullers in blades can lighten the steel up as much as 30%. But they are also a possible weak point of contact as you said. They also help the smith widen the blade. Doesn't mean that the blades could be snapped easily, but the grooves did have a few purposes.

I was asking about the part that narrows right after the shaft, which seems like a particular vulnerability. The sword market is a joke these days Particularly online. If you dont find a maker yourself youre likely to get ripped off and that includes the popular shops. Particularly pisses me off that the Japanophiles just crank out half decent katana and pretty much act like that was the only weapon in circualtion😂 You cant find a a wushu weapon worth dick, at all. And good luck finding someone willing to forge a Moonblade style weapon who wont inevitably upcharge you for the time. I just want a Decently thrown together Jumonji and thats a short sword on a stick. 500 bucks i dont even need the pole. and a Fangtian Ji that isnt freaking stainless steel.
