I wanted to ask, are you going do something with those characters that were being interviewed? They all seem way too good to just be advertising for a game where they don’t even appear.
I mean look at the comments, people are more interested in the characters in the ad than the game being promoted. Just saying.

2. Princess charm is a 16 bit character that's a parody of the Princess in Damsel in distress in video games I think,
3. Corgon repesents fantasy MMorpgs or Warcraft I assume,
4. Alex Jackson is a parody of Call of duty,
5. Max Splints represents a parody The NFL or sports genre of games

That was the idea. Counter strike, Mario bros, Warcraft, Madden and so on... The IDEA was to send the message that this was a game that all kinds of players would enjoy...
In PRACTICE they ended up coming up with characters that was more interesting than the game they were meant to promo

They made the characters in the trailer better than the game in the ad: Bad marketing
IMPORTANT: They can use these characters from this trailer again for either marketing, toys, or full-fledged video games. This would instantly make them a ton of money which is what they really love.
You know a game is gonna take off really poorly when the characters in the trailer have more life in them then the characters in game. I would've LOVED a dodgeball party fighter with characters from other games, this is just kinda disappointing
Yeah if it was me I would have added classes like
Speedster-faster and can jump higher than the others even in ball form but one hit can take them out
Brute-is much slower than everyone else and has a shorter range in ball form but has more health and can knock people back farther.
Sharpshooter-has a longer range and a slide move but is average in everything else.
Even this would have add way more depth to the game

I'd try out lethal league blaze, or something. Doesn't feature chars from diff games or anything, and it isnt really 3d, but it IS dodgeball bros. Music is great, and the creators are the people making Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.
I was hoping for some sort of crossover game with characters having unique artstyles that are representative of typical genre designs. I was honestly getting really hype seeing the different characters talking. But it was all just for dodgeball with generic 3D models?

When the marketing team has a better concept than the game devs themselves you know its gonna be bad. I mean we all know its a dogeball game at the end of the day and maybe it ends up being a great game but i am so much more curious about those characters at the beginning

The gameplay looks...alright but I agree with everybody else, the fake gaming mascots looked more interesting. I would totally watch an animated series of those three playing games then play the actual game myself.

Those character designs are like the ad team just grabbed concept art and used them, while some poor artist is like, "Now I'll never get the chance to pitch those games, because they used the designs for this ad instead."

the japanese version of the direct didn't have these mascots at all

Guess some people misunderstand this trailer a bit. Its not super bad advertisement imo. The characters are not in the game, not because EA was just lazy (maybe, I dont know lol), but I guess mostly because they wanted to show, that people from different kinds of platforms and players that enjoy different kinds of games might enjoy it too. The characters are the players, as easy as it is to understand. The Orc represents MMORPG, while the Counter-Terrorist represents shooters, Princess Charm the Jump n Run games ect ect, you know where Im getting at. So in short, they wanted to show, that the characters, or more like, the different playerbases, might like this new freshly made fun looking game. I hope some of you now understand why the advertisement is not really that 'true' to the gameplay.
Although you're right, the problem is that the characters shown were far more interesting for a lot of people than the actual game, so it's not so much that the game has misleading publicity, but rather that we got shown something different (and to some, better) than the actual product
I was excited to play as a Battlefield/COD soldier, WOW-esque orc/ogre, and an 8-Bit styled princess. But then the actual gameplay came on and it looks like all of the other bland, milquetoast Fortnite style copycats. Disappointing art choice.

It's almost like they threw the commercial together with some stock models they had laying around because they couldn't get real people for the commercial.
That said, really confusing commercial once you realize the game has nothing to do with the characters.

After seeing this trailer I thought the game was gonna suck, but I tried it at launch and I'm hooked. Who knew there could be such depth and well thought out mechanics in a dodheball game? I still want a game about Princess Charm though.

Small info about Princess Charm
She was created by Anis Meamar and Marty Pinos Mello, independent animators hired by EA to contribute to the trailer... with barely any info about "Knockout City"
And... EA apparently didn't credit them, nor the others
Someone needs to contact them and get them to make a Princess Charm game because it'd sell millions of copies
I have to agree with the general consensus here. The game itself looks fun on it's own, but the way it is advertised makes it look lackluster in comparison to the colorful cast they used.
I was thinking this game was gonna be like a Gumball-Wreck it Ralph-esc fighting game with a colorful cast of characters, each representing a different form of game. But no.....It's Dodge Ball.

Returning to this after having actually played the game... yeha, I would still love a game where you have a bunch of character archetypes from different games, all pit against each other or something. Game itself is very fun though!

What a wild mixture of framerates in this trailer! Digital Foundry will have their fun with it
One detail I like are the controllers that the characters use:
-Lieutenant Alex Jackson and Captain Wrangler use DualShock 4 controllers
-Corgon uses a Nintendo Switch in travel mode
-Princess Charm and Max Splints unfortunately use generic-looking controllers (missed opportunity to show the new Xbox One controllers)
